The Return Of My Bloody Valentine

I occasionally experience something akin to tinnitus, and am pretty sure it's probably with me at a very low level all the time. I'm not risking my hearing and all the pleasure it brings me for this. No way.

As received last night from Donut Mackro in Seattle, who asked me to pass this on:

y'know, the "holocaust" thing in Denver was awesome and intense, but the most transcendent moment for me was the long outro of "Soon" -- like the VU trancing out on "What Goes On", pure locked in sound. was expecting that my ears'd still be ringing for days afterwards, but I actually didn't notice it too much. maybe this is a bad sign for the state of my hearing.

my buddy taped the show on his cheap walkman recorder. we played some of the holocaust section on the drive home -- sounded like static on the radio. or something we could sell to Aquarius Records on limited edition cassette as the latest awesome underground noize band.

You know... my ears were ringing for about a week after ATP New York, but hardly at all after Austin the other night. Not sure why, I used earplugs about half the show at each one...

yeah - the build up of constituent parts of that song and then them all just caving in and combining at the end, vocals and the sample and guitars. it is too much!

no but their last US show for a while is today at all points west which i cannot attend.

when I saw them at Birmingham Institute for the Loveless tour she dealt with the high <ahem> flutey sample sounds that are all over the album. Did you see them in the UK or elsewhere, maybe she didn't tour overseas?

I also liked Gogol Bordello and The Arctic Monkeys. Leading into it I thought I would enjoy MBV. Guess not.

I like Lateralus, but Tool's entire discography doesn't even come close to what MBV accomplished with Loveless.

Yeah I'm a little surprised at there being such a huge audience split -- a little, not completely. Sure seems like a lot of newer metal bands love both equally. (Cue Chuck E. posting about why said love is the problem with modern metal...)

hee hee, Tool just played a big festival out here, and I think they went on after .... Widespread Panic. Wonder if there were any middle fingers during that set.

Tool fans are an insular, tribal sort. I bet it had less to do with MBV and more to do with the fact that it was not Tool.

btw, MBV were pretty excellent last night at the Way Out West festival in Göteborg, Sweden.

I saw tool once b/c a friend had an extra ticket she couldn't get rid of. Tomahawk opened for them. There was a lot of heckling and middle fingers, but I'm not sure how much of that was because Mike Patton wouldn't stop insulting the audience and hoe much was because tool fans are dicks.
ps-tool were boring. The only show I've ever fallen asleep at.

So, as the "wall" is part of the last song, were the tool fans fingerhappy during the rest of the set?
