p fucking good so far says I

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:10 (seven years ago) link

No one had said that so i was wondering if people didnt think that this year. Usually people say the just inside the top 100 is their fave part or theyve discovered loads

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 19 December 2016 00:13 (seven years ago) link

and seriously missing dominique leone saying his entire ballot already placed :D

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 19 December 2016 00:13 (seven years ago) link

I'm not really bowled over by much of this, but I do know there's loads of truly killer stuff yet to place, so *shrug*

and there are ALWAYS cool things to discover like howls of ebb. it's always worthwhile going through all these albums

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:14 (seven years ago) link

Imago killing zsa zsa clearly the big news of the day though

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 19 December 2016 00:15 (seven years ago) link

the Anicon record is great, glad others voted for it

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:17 (seven years ago) link

I voted for The Body, but listening now and it's way better than I even remembered. And I want that t-shirt!

dance band (tangenttangent), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:21 (seven years ago) link

I've had a lot of things place already so I'm inclined to think it's a great roll-out. Favourite find is probably Eight Bells, but I'll need to dedicate time to get into it.

dance band (tangenttangent), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:23 (seven years ago) link

Their shirts were stupid cheap too, I think 10 bucks CAD each? I also bought one of the Futility and Despair skull/heart shirts xp

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:24 (seven years ago) link

Nails was #14 in my prediction, doh! Like I said, unpredictable. I'd think there would be some gnarly crust punk/post-hard/grindcore option up there. Maybe Trap Them or Zao?

Fastnbulbous, Monday, 19 December 2016 00:30 (seven years ago) link

Nails and/or Wormrot screwed most of us lol

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 00:31 (seven years ago) link

its that time of the poll where everyone gives up on obscure things placing too as big names start to appear

or is it?

Find out in the next episode of S.O.A.P.

Anicon is pleasant. (A state to which every metal aspires, obv.)

Second side of the latest album is amazing space rock. Shame about the boring ass psych pop tunes on the first side.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 19 December 2016 01:47 (seven years ago) link

aw I like the little psych pop tunes! but I do agree that tracks 5-8 >>>>>>>>> 1-4. closing track is just about my most-played thing this year

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Monday, 19 December 2016 01:56 (seven years ago) link

i'm the #1 vote for Woman Is The Earth, for the record!

also voted Anicon way up high

alpine static, Monday, 19 December 2016 01:58 (seven years ago) link

Im gonna have to put Comet Control back on my phone, I guess

sushi and the banh mis (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 19 December 2016 02:03 (seven years ago) link

LJ - The closing tune will be high on my tracks ballot here. It made my Village Voice (nee Pazz & Jop) ballot.

EZ Snappin, Monday, 19 December 2016 02:04 (seven years ago) link

:) high on mine too!

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Monday, 19 December 2016 02:20 (seven years ago) link

Well I think five of mine have appeared so far, including my numbers 2 (Horse Latitudes) and 5 (Howls of Ebb). Void Meditation Cult was my number 20 but probably should've been top 10, I was just cutting and pasting stuff around in a frenzy to get my ballot done.

― EZ Snappin,

I wish you had voted in this poll

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 19 December 2016 08:19 (seven years ago) link

I couldn't make my mind about No One Deserves Happiness this year. I mostly liked it but it always felt like something was missing. Ended up not voting for it for this reason.

Dinsdale, Monday, 19 December 2016 08:30 (seven years ago) link

It's good but I bought All the Waters of the Earth... a month after it and have listened to it way more. I felt like No One Deserves Happiness really highlights how boring the guy's vocals are, unfortunately.

rudy githyanki (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 19 December 2016 08:54 (seven years ago) link

was the Trees of Eternity album nominated? I just heard it and I feel like I would have Top 5'd it.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 09:14 (seven years ago) link

If I had voted it would have been a joke. I tried to make a metal list and couldn't get to ten albums. It wasn't where my head was at this year. I'm following along to try and find stuff I might have liked if I was paying attention.

Tom Violence, Monday, 19 December 2016 15:57 (seven years ago) link

cannot even remotely begin to get with this stuff

illbient microtonal poetry Surbiton (imago), Monday, 19 December 2016 16:01 (seven years ago) link

Gotta try it with a ringing endorsement like that. It's not bad, there's a lot going on though, between the choral vocals and the distorted screaming and the rest. Blackened orchestral grindcore?

Tom Violence, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:03 (seven years ago) link

such a fun album

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 16:05 (seven years ago) link

I haven't loved every Anaal Nathrakh album, but this one seemed really gripping and powerful to me, maybe as intense as anything since the first couple.

glenn mcdonald, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:05 (seven years ago) link

like Atari Teenage Riot meets Emperor

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 16:06 (seven years ago) link

Hmm, that makes it sound almost alluring. May try

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Monday, 19 December 2016 16:14 (seven years ago) link

yeah, I'm kinda digging this so far. I have their first album somewhere but couldn't find it or remember what it sounded like.

Tom Violence, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:16 (seven years ago) link

The production on that AN is seriously offputting.

Whoops, there goes another of my top 20 guesses.

Tom Violence, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:31 (seven years ago) link

wow I missed a lot of rollout! I voted for the above, though it was a last minute addition, and I personally like the Zealotry album (from same braintrust) better. Still, hard to complain about bands ripping off Demilich

Dominique, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:31 (seven years ago) link

This was the Killed By Cars' extreme metal pick (at least in their half-year list)(last year's was Ship of Theseus) so I wanted to give it a real shot for my ballot. Unfortunately, didn't happen. I'll probably queue it up over break, though

sushi and the banh mis (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 19 December 2016 16:34 (seven years ago) link

Simon H - I emailed my ILX metal top 20 guesses to you. Did you get them? I probably should have posted instead.

BlackIronPrison, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:41 (seven years ago) link

yep, I got 'em!

The Imago effect gets the EP into the rollout instead of albums

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 19 December 2016 16:44 (seven years ago) link

The Anaal Nathrakh is indeed an excellent return to form. I am usually not so much into this modern digitally-overdriven grindcore sound but this has some great hooks, I should jump into more conversations yelling SHOW ME THEIR GRAVES!!!
