Wire list will be in their January issue, so in a couple of weeks. (I voted.)

Not surprising at all, clearly you dont get the free nme in america KP ;)
that is exactly what they cover now.
― Cosmic Slop, Saturday, 26 November 2016 16:43 (seven years ago) link
ps i doubt anyones ever seen one outside of London..
1. The 1975 – 'I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It'
Worst album title since Sometimes I Sit and Think and Sometimes I Sit and Think About Things or whatever the fuck it's called.
― Mr. Snrub, Sunday, 27 November 2016 12:36 (seven years ago) link
i just kind of assume they're going for the creepy stalker vibe on that one, and so i think of it as successful.
― xiphoid beetlebum (rushomancy), Sunday, 27 November 2016 12:42 (seven years ago) link
it's more 'earnest youth who through performative rendering of this verges upon creepy stalker' imo
― imago, Sunday, 27 November 2016 13:48 (seven years ago) link
9. Lady Leshurr – ‘Where Are You Now?’
NME OTM.
When did you last see any critical volte-face as rapid as the one the NME performed over the 1975?
― Matt DC, Sunday, 27 November 2016 16:24 (seven years ago) link
Pitchfork on Trail of Dead lol

Hmmm... couldn't get into this Powell record. I was curious and tried, but nothing.
I suspect it will show up on a quite few lists from outlets that don't really focus on dance music. Feels like that sort of record.
― MikoMcha, Sunday, 27 November 2016 17:18 (seven years ago) link
It's secretly like a rock record or something. In disguise.

The Rolling Stone list is out.
― Don Van Gorp, midwest regional VP, marketing (誤訳侮辱), Monday, 28 November 2016 17:44 (seven years ago) link
That top ten seems like pretty standard music publication fare at first, and then you have the Rolling Stones stuck in the middle to remind you that this is Rolling Stone.
― MarkoP, Monday, 28 November 2016 17:53 (seven years ago) link
Every song I've heard from the Rolling Stones album has been great. I'm actually excited to hear the whole thing.

So what will this year's acronym be? CROBIB (Cave, Radiohead, Ocean, Bowie, Iggy, Beyonce)? BBOICR?
― Fastnbulbous, Monday, 28 November 2016 19:28 (seven years ago) link
Joyce Manor and Dawn Richard making the Time songs list makes me happy.

Mac Miller ft. Anderson.Paak - "Dang!"
I can't remember who tweeted it (maybe some dude), but my favorite capsule review of this track was "Why is Mac Miller mumbling all over this good Anderson Paak song?"

5. The Range - Potential
I really enjoyed this, it sounds like what all the positive reviews of the Jamie XX album made me expect from it
― boxedjoy, Monday, 28 November 2016 20:44 (seven years ago) link
'Gardenia' is the one Iggy LP song I've heard and "All I want to do is tell Gardenia what to do tonight" is the clunkiest line I've heard all year.

Time factor is no excuse for A Tribe getting stuck in the middle of the RS list, since they had time to get it in there at all: one listen should do it for most of the music and enough of the words.

At least.

maybe RS just thought there were 29 records better than that one this year? i don't think that seems all that ridiculous. there are more ridiculous things on that list.
― alpine static, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 01:03 (seven years ago) link
Not all of those29 were better, although I guess you could say that (or anything) is "arguable."
― dow, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 01:21 (seven years ago) link
none of those 29 were better tbf
― Dave Plaintive rapper with classical training (imago), Tuesday, 29 November 2016 01:23 (seven years ago) link
and i thought the RS list was generally p good
whiney sure cleaned that place up
none of those 29 were better tbf Maybe some of them are; I haven't heard 'em all. But: Margo Price's slick knock-off of Loretta Lynn starts okay, gets too predictable, and oops here's the actual Loretta with a good new album of her own. Brandi Clark's album is more fluid than her first, but she's still the self-conscious workshopper, as singer and writer (Alfred cites her tendency to mistake detail for significance). Bon Iver is the opposite, an overachiever, more Bon Iver than ever. Nick Cave is still Nick Cave. The Parquet Courts and Drive-By Truckers albums are both about half-good (minority report). For instance.
― dow, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 01:37 (seven years ago) link
I mean I'm usually just, "Lists, schmists", but in this case, it's almost amazing.
― dow, Tuesday, 29 November 2016 01:43 (seven years ago) link
Count RS among publications that don't seem to realize that Parquet Courts have two singers. By my count, 3 of the 4 songs that supposedly show Savage musing with "thoughtful detachment" were actually sung by the other guy.
