Today at my desk, while watching that periscope, I am not ashamed to say I fell to my knees and wept. Hope the web cam caught it!

imo the over the top part wasn't the on stage reaction, it was the facebook post

mh 😏, Wednesday, 16 November 2016 14:18 (nine years ago)

I think the on-stage reaction was also somewhat ott tbh

Gaiman reading Goodnight Moon afterwards is pretty grim.

Couple of days after this he joined Amanda and corny rockist Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield onstage for another cathartic rendition of Hallelujah and he was miserable looking - just barely mouthing the words, standing 2 feet back from the microphone in case it caught anything he actually was singing.

Observing that someone is a corny rockist is not necessary badmouthing. Just calling it like it is:

My Favourite Canadian Songs by Chris Hadfield

Gordon Lightfoot – If You Could Read My Mind
Blue Rodeo – Til I am Myself Again
Ian Tyson – Four Strong Winds
The Guess Who – American Woman
Neil Young – Heart of Gold
Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Takin’ Care of Business
Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now
Leonard Cohen – Dance Me to the End of Love
Rush – Closer to the Heart
Sarah McLachlan – Angel
Stan Rogers – Lock-keeper
Barenaked Ladies – Pinch Me
Emm Gryner – Ciao Monday
Great Big Sea – Run Runaway
Stompin’ Tom Connors – Sudbury Saturday Night
Blue Rodeo – 5 Days in May
Gordon Lightfoot – Early Morning Rain
Ian Tyson – Someday Soon
The Guess Who – No time
Leonard Cohen - Hallelujah

three weeks pass...

watching the earlier part of that periscope reminds me that she's actually a good songwriter and performer when she wants to be. watching that 1'15 part reminds me why i always forget that first part.

no, she's pretty much the worst.

but she's also a talented songwriter and performer when she wants to be. it just seems that her fans prefer her to be a self-obsessed nightmare, and she obliges?

i’ve been on wild tear for the past two or three years to really kick the shit out of my bucket list, and i’ve done it with fervor.
i’d wanted to make a record with my dad. (i did it and i put it out using the funds from my patreon. it was wonderful.)
i’d wanted, for ten years, to make a record with Edward Ka-spel. (i did it. i’m wrapping up that tour this week. it was really beautiful and fulfilling.)
i had a baby.
and i’ll admit it: none of these three above projects were a huge commercial success.
but a nice side effect of doing all these projects, baby included, is that i haven’t had much time and/or energy to feel insecure.

I know of at least one person who read that rant and proceeded to buy the Lorde album specifically in response to it.

Ned Raggett, Thursday, 22 June 2017 23:33 (eight years ago)

Lorde as Donald Trump and Palmer as Hillary.

mh, Thursday, 22 June 2017 23:50 (eight years ago)

celebs like Palmer don't need therapists because they fuel their narcissism through a fan proxy. Truly those who seek fame like this are similar to addicts or the mentally ill. See also Conan, it's some innate insecurity

qualx, Friday, 23 June 2017 01:35 (eight years ago)

O'brien - based on how much he seemed to thrive off of fame in the doc. I mean he's super nice to his fans, but he needs that *fix*
