Frustrated by this album. Girl You Need a Change of Mind is a bolt of lightning from Olympus and then the rest is just run-of-the-mill material imo.

Remembered this album at the last moment while scrolling the nominations list. It's a patchy sort of compilation, sort of live album with plenty of other random shit thrown in (Spinning Wheel? If I Ruled the World?). But there's too much transcendent music here to leave it off the ballot.

When he modulates to the bridge [of "Get Up I Feel Like Being a Sex Machine"] it's like the Spirit of God moving upon the face of the waters. After that he could describe his cars for three sides and get away with it (hope this doesn't give him any bright ideas)

Xgau otm about Brown in general. Growing up I felt like the "Brown is far and way the number one" orthodoxy will kick in but it still seems like a sort of peripheral view. I mean sure, everyone respects him but that's not quite enough imo.

Growing up, One Nation was the Funkadelic record I always read about, and since it didn't sound anything like the Westbound-era Funkadelic I first encountered, didn't get the hype. Still don't think they needed to record something like "Who Says a Funk Band Can't Play Rock?" (would have thought it was obvious to their fans), but now see One Nation as prob the most consistent of their disco-era records. (tho I'd put on Electric Spanking if I only had to pick one)

100 percent OTM. It's the classic Funkadelic album I play least.

Young, Gifted and Black was a strong contender for number one. Aretha's voice is obviously great, but her piano is on another level on that album.

Favorite track is a three way duel between Rock Steady, Oh Me Oh My and April Fools...and All The King's Horses...and First Snow in Kokomo...and Day Dreamin

What a great album

I think Spirit in the Dark is even better (including her piano playing) but I love'em both.

I thought Talking Book would be higher. It's my least favourite of the big Stevie albums. I'm glad that Songs in the Key of Life will be higher.

This Spinners album is great. It does sound like a greatest hits record just like The Stylistics debut which should appear any minute now.

The World is a Ghetto is a classic with one of my favourite album covers on the list. I guess I can give up on Deliver the Word by War making it now.

I find it hard to pick between Aretha albums. I don't think she ever made a proper 10/10 classic. I guess Spirit in the Dark would be my favourite. I really like the Curtis Mayfield produced Sparkle too.

Fresh has one of my all time favourite album covers.

Also has one of my all time favorite song covers in Que Sera Sera

My word what a run of albums. I Kendricks was my number two. 'Just Memories' destroys me.
Don't know the O'Jays at all, really. Damn this roll out is great.

Hooray for Syreeta. I'm tempted to say too low as it was my number one but honestly I never expected her to place this high. One of my favourite albums of any genre or any decade. A perfect album in every single way.

Forgot to mention an album highlight for Syreeta (my parents-in-law are visiting, and I have to sneak out every 15-20 minutes to post a new album), but the two opening tracks are so very good.

i never really got the appeal of inspiration information, it's okay i guess but i don't really think is a 70s soul classic. the reissuing thing seemed to cement it as such but idgi

i think it was more like this standard reissue off-the-mark hype description of it as this "lost psychedelic soul rock classic" in the vein of jimi and it is actually a pretty sparse, spacious, and minimal soul album. maybe that's why i remember being not quite satisfied but listening now and taking it on its own terms it is pretty great

I tried to get into those Syreeta albums recently and was surprised that I didn't like them at all
