i reckon it's still bloody fantastic.the space in the mix vs the big bass is total ear candy in these sonically oversaturated times.

Another big omission from these lists is Model 500's 'Deep Space' LP.

The biggest omission, IMO.
Well, once you leave aside jungle DJ mixes from that year.

Automatic thread bump. This poll's results are now in.
― System, Friday, 7 October 2016 00:01 (seven years ago) link
Lol at none of the top 3 being actual electronic/dance music, I guess ILX's Americanisation is now complete.

Dave Angel - Tales Of The Unexpected 0Omni Trio - The Deepest Cut 0
aw
also aw at Joey Beltram 0 though I haven't heard "Places". also hadn't heard of Sound Patrol "Sweetened, No Lemon" but apparently it's Derrick Carter. anyone got any thoughts on either of those?
Would have liked a bit of a longer poll time to check out the As One and revisit the Towa Tei and St. Germain, which I enjoyed at the time but can't remember anything about now. so I've got some homework for the weekend, anyway

Why it's almost as if people prefer dance music out of the album context (which is also partly why the magazine lists included such a degree of less dancefloor-orientated stuff).
― nashwan, Friday, 7 October 2016 10:01 (seven years ago) link
Carl Craig's 'Landcruising' another huge surprising omission tho
― nashwan, Friday, 7 October 2016 10:05 (seven years ago) link
we can certainly see the results of "Americanisation" when 2 of the top 3 are, err, European artists
― Neil S, Friday, 7 October 2016 10:12 (seven years ago) link
I didn't get around to voting but if I had I probably would have thrown The Deepest Cut a vote.
That said the top 10 based on votes is pretty unfuckwithable.

What I meant was, in 1995 Americans weren't really listening to electronic club music, so those albums would not be familiar to most of them, so they'll vote for the pop and trip-hop stuff that did cross over. And American music, of course.

one track on this is fantastic, so much so that i have forgotten what the rest of the record is like. it has the kind of sleeve you might well pass over when looking in the record shop

I do not remember this but I would like to think it's another early Fatboy Slim alias
― dr. mercurio arboria (mh 😏), Saturday, 8 October 2016 03:36 (seven years ago) link
Yeah it is - but not fully formed Fatboy Slim. Hi-energy, vaguely latin rhythms, whistles blowing and so on makes it like a proto-Basement Jaxx at times. Pretty good album but not compared to some of the others here.
