I'm warming up to it, but I wish it had more hooks

OK wow I love her again
― boxedjoy, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 19:46 (nine years ago)
Nite Jewel's last full length was pretty decent (particularly like "Running Out of Time"). Opening with "Nothing But Scenery" was an odd choice though as it feels like the album loses momentum instantly.
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Tuesday, 21 March 2017 21:48 (nine years ago)
Do all the LA artists go to the same beach up the coast to shoot their videos? I feel like I just saw one like this starring weyes blood.
― calstars, Tuesday, 21 March 2017 23:12 (nine years ago)
3 listens inSounds like a jammier version of "goes through your head"Happy to hear the major key cues
― calstars, Saturday, 25 March 2017 16:51 (nine years ago)

Heard an advance of the full thing...it's nice? Not deathless.
― Ned Raggett, Monday, 27 March 2017 04:28 (nine years ago)
Tell us more Ned...does it sound like the last one or is it brighter? Like the hypnagogic pop of her first one or less slanted?

― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Wednesday, 5 April 2017 01:35 (nine years ago)
I thought it was "the answer is no"
― calstars, Wednesday, 5 April 2017 01:58 (nine years ago)
Yeah I think it's "no". Seems like this album is a logical progression from Nite-Funk so far

― calstars, Sunday, 30 April 2017 16:52 (nine years ago)
Wish the Meters could play rhythm on it.
― calstars, Sunday, 30 April 2017 16:55 (nine years ago)
^ Nice track. "Obsession" EP has grown on me; it's uniformly chill which initially turned me off, but I found it compelling in the rain today. Sublime and insular, with the highlights "Real High" and "Real Low", gorgeous tracks with alien, aquatic synth bursts.
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Wednesday, 3 May 2017 23:55 (nine years ago)
Haven't heard the EP but will ASAP
I also think this latest one is the one she's most invested and engaged in
― calstars, Thursday, 4 May 2017 00:49 (nine years ago)
Yeah this might be my favorite since One Second days
― calstars, Saturday, 6 May 2017 01:03 (nine years ago)
This album is so good
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 8 May 2017 21:41 (nine years ago)
"Clive" from One Second goes perfectly into Death In Vegas "Girls". Tracks separated at birth

Here's the Obsession EP
― calstars, Monday, 8 May 2017 21:51 (nine years ago)
^ Awesome, calstars. "Real Low" is beautiful.
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Monday, 8 May 2017 21:53 (nine years ago)
very much in character but i love this record
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Friday, 12 May 2017 16:35 (nine years ago)
this record is so dreamy and beautiful. i've loved her since good evening and it's so great to see her produce a record as solid and confident as this without losing her character, like brad said
― joshywinty (josh), Friday, 19 May 2017 21:33 (nine years ago)
This album is so good. I really wasn't that excited when I put it on as Liquid Cool didn't do a lot for me. I think this could be her best album.
― kitchen person, Saturday, 20 May 2017 01:07 (nine years ago)
Starting to think kitchen is right that this is her best album. It's gorgeous
― Carlotta's Portrait (Ross), Sunday, 21 May 2017 00:20 (nine years ago)
Pretty bummed I can't see her tomorrow night cuz I'm unemployed/broke. That's life
― Unchanging Window (Ross), Monday, 10 July 2017 23:15 (eight years ago)
album's been growing on me, might have to give last year's ep another shot.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 01:58 (eight years ago)
Moodles, you mean Nite-Funk? Yeah that's a good one and indicative of where she ended up on this new one. Turns out I'm seeing her tonight after all, so stoked - one of my favourite artists
― Unchanging Window (Ross), Tuesday, 11 July 2017 18:03 (eight years ago)
I should give that one another shot too, but I was thinking of Liquid Cool, which I forgot was a full album.
― Moodles, Tuesday, 11 July 2017 18:18 (eight years ago)
Saw her last night and she was great. Duo with a keyboardist which allows Ramona more of an open air to sing and not play keys primarily. She's a wicked musician and a great singer, particular highlights were a blistering version of "Running Out of Time" and "What Did He Say?"
Also "Obsession" EP has become the dark counterpoint to "Real High". It contains many of the same tracks but is much more sullen and comedown than the LP. "Real Low" revisits the title track from her last LP in instrumental form and is lovely.
― Paisley Window Pane (Ross), Wednesday, 12 July 2017 21:15 (eight years ago)
Kitchen person OTM this is her best album
― Week of Wonders (Ross), Sunday, 20 August 2017 01:21 (eight years ago)
Yeah, I would definitely take away the "think" part of my original post. This is her best work and one of the year's nicest surprises.
― kitchen person, Sunday, 20 August 2017 01:47 (eight years ago)
it's just 2 good 2 b true
― ToddBonzalez (BradNelson), Sunday, 20 August 2017 01:48 (eight years ago)
yeah i love her first but this is the record she was born to make. course correct of One Second of Love. felt a bit weird hearing a track in starbucks
― Week of Wonders (Ross), Sunday, 20 August 2017 02:01 (eight years ago)
this album is definitely not front-loaded. it seems to peak in tempo in the middle and carry that for 3 tracks, culminating in a suite of some of her finest chill songs to date. The only weak spot is "I Don't Know"
― Week of Wonders (Ross), Monday, 11 September 2017 03:35 (eight years ago)
I like that song. Pretty much like the whole album, in fact.
― Moodles, Monday, 11 September 2017 06:22 (eight years ago)
it was great live, loved the break
― Week of Wonders (Ross), Monday, 11 September 2017 06:46 (eight years ago)
I went to see her last week because it was only £7 and I thought that seemed like a decent deal. I had forgotten just how many truly great songs she's made over the years and it was brilliant, her live voice was flawless.
― boxedjoy, Monday, 11 September 2017 08:49 (eight years ago)
the answer is the soty imo

Not to rank on her latest stuff, but I really miss Cole’s participation
― calstars, Saturday, 10 February 2018 00:36 (eight years ago)
Real High was one of my favorite albums from last year, I'm surprised it didn't get more love on here.
― Moodles, Saturday, 10 February 2018 01:28 (eight years ago)
right there with ya Moodles
