Grinning Mouths still leaves me slack jawed and grinning like an idiot.
― Sunn O))) Brother Where Art Thou? (Chinaski), Friday, 16 September 2016 18:54 (nine years ago)
no fucking Thou in this thing
― cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 18:55 (nine years ago)
there's stuff to like about triptykon! but it's still quite mundane (bear in mind all thrash ever leaves me utterly cold) and I'm pretty sure its placement is riding on the celtic frost hypewave. buuuuut I'm enjoying it more than I thought I would
oceanic really suffers for being first heard after panopticon, probably
grinning mouths is on the superior album panopticon lol
― imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 18:56 (nine years ago)
its not thrash
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 18:57 (nine years ago)
Wow, people really like Isis. I better get more on this thing. Interesting that they're doing SO much better than, say, Neurosis.

no fucking Thou and like 15 Jute Gyte albums. Sad!

― imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:00 (nine years ago)
and no Woods of Desolation :(
― alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:00 (nine years ago)
No In Solitude's Sister. I should have weighted my ballot.
― jmm, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:03 (nine years ago)
the # of votes and also points were not even close between 1 & 2.
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:04 (nine years ago)
twice the amount of points and almost double the # of votes
My prediction upthread, eh?
― imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:05 (nine years ago)
Except add an extra 0
ah dopethrone then
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:05 (nine years ago)

and no Woods of Desolation :(― alpine staticI did my part! But no Rammstein, no Iron Maiden, no Motorhead, no Limp Bizkit - a sad day for mainstream rock/metal.
― Siegbran, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:10 (nine years ago)
There was Motorhead. #228
― jmm, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:11 (nine years ago)
Slop had best have thought of a good parody #2
― imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:12 (nine years ago)
I mean, if you want mainstream, Tool made the top 20.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:14 (nine years ago)
Nope. But you have 5 or 10 mins to think of one while I finish my dinner
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:15 (nine years ago)
cant help it if the high profile fans of those bands in the rolling metal thread dont vote

― Siegbran, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:17 (nine years ago)
yeah i'm not high profile, but i didn't nominate or vote, so i'm not gonna complain.
no Thou, though? yeesh.
― alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:18 (nine years ago)
well I'm gonna complain
― cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:21 (nine years ago)
it doesnt take many votes to get into the poll so that is not an excuse for folks that its not worth it but if they dont like polls they dont like polls
alpine static i wasnt meaning you though
but if people had compaigned for the likes of Thou etc i bet they would have made it
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:22 (nine years ago)
I didn't think they needed campaigning!
― cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:26 (nine years ago)
thou are pretty high profile. weird they didn't place in the top 300
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:27 (nine years ago)

no worries, CS, i know you weren't talking about me. (thx for doing all this, btw, seems like a massive undertaking for what we're paying you.)
― alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:37 (nine years ago)
i thought you'd like at least the arty avant garde digressions on celtic frost records lj but i prob misjudged how you feel about the actual metal
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:37 (nine years ago)
let's do this again now that everyone has learned from their mistakes
― cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 19:38 (nine years ago)
I need to give it a proper listen tbf
― imago, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:39 (nine years ago)
Celtic Frost covered all styles from the beginning speed/thrash/doom/gothic/death/black then added avant garde elements then hit a real low with cold lake, limped on then split then came back with the greatest comeback album ever IMO.
No thrash on this album its pretty much an avant doom/goth album but its magnificent and a worthy winner imo.
It was my #1
― Cosmic Slop, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:40 (nine years ago)
Monotheist is just that beloved on ILM? Cool.
― jmm, Friday, 16 September 2016 19:40 (nine years ago)
Typical ILM though - if it won't give the prize to an album from 2000 that's basically upgraded Sabbath, it'll give it to a comeback from an 80s band :P
