yeah... I thought that was just imago but no

Primordial - To The Nameless Dead has been a nice discovery. I bought it and listened to it at the gym this morning. Loved it so much. This poll is frustrating to me, mainly b/c I'm a thrash lover first and doom lover second, and also for the life of me can't figure out why such awesome rekkids by Vektor and Gojira are so low. There's actually a lot of stuff placing high that I just don't give the time of day to ever.

I had a look for votes by Jouis Lagger but no dice, others do indeed like Mr Kalmbach (I forget which one I voted for.

This makes me happy.

I also really regret not voting for the Dodheimsgard record, 'cause it's pretty sick.
― BlackIronPrison, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:01 (seven years ago) link
I feel you -- only about a fifth of my ballot has placed, and tho it's nice to see what others' are digging, at times it's felt like I was voting in a different poll than everyone else.
That said, I firmly expect Archgoat to dominate the top 20.
― Dominique, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:06 (seven years ago) link
Your ballot will be challenging Siegbran's as the most obscure underground metal ballot though! That cant be a surprise!
― Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:08 (seven years ago) link
I still don't think I'm totally aware of what is and isn't obscure in extreme metal. Like, I think Darkthrone and Gorguts are famous bands in this context. Tho I do expect Gorguts to still show up
― Dominique, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:13 (seven years ago) link
My ballot was not that obscure, it had Limp Bizkit and Rammstein on it!
― Siegbran, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:23 (seven years ago) link
and my chemical romance and slipknot
― Cosmic Slop, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:27 (seven years ago) link
No they're shit.
― Siegbran, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:36 (seven years ago) link
i am also happy @ people being happy about Primordial
― ciderpress, Thursday, 15 September 2016 20:52 (seven years ago) link
These polls aren't really a good gauge of what is obscure or not. Most metal lists are very different from the ones that are usually produced here, which is why I'm glad we have these. Nice to see my taste reflected somewhere.

or do your tastes just reflect the influence of ILM? ;)

Goslings sound good and I look forward to giving GOH a proper listen
― imago, Thursday, 15 September 2016 22:02 (seven years ago) link
yes, have listened to Ordo Ad Chao like 5 times this week from the poll. It's going to cause me to listen to everything Mayhem did, because before now, I was really only into their early stuff
― Dominique, Thursday, 15 September 2016 22:04 (seven years ago) link
Favourites from memory: Goslings, lovely Alcest, Elder (from before the rollout), Esoteric, Absu, Immolation, Cynic

I hope To The Nameless Dead shows up again just for good measure
― ciderpress, Thursday, 15 September 2016 23:30 (seven years ago) link
Fuck, I just had a nice post about listening to Darkspace III and my computer sent it to the frigid unthinkable expanse of the void. I like the album so far (a few minutes in) but I prefer Petrychor for black metal about the unbearable emptiness of space.
― Tom Violence, Friday, 16 September 2016 03:24 (seven years ago) link
Was Petrychor not nominated at all? I would have totally voted for them.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Friday, 16 September 2016 03:45 (seven years ago) link
I hope the top 20 is not just Yob's 8th album and Darkspace's 12th album and Jute Gyte's 25th album.
― cookware regression (Dinsdale), Friday, 16 September 2016 06:45 (seven years ago) link
lunchtime where, Cosmic Slop? need to do some time zone math...
― alpine static, Friday, 16 September 2016 06:51 (seven years ago) link
90% of my ballot has already placed, and only one more actually will. I have no idea what's going to be in this top 20! Looking forward to hearing ILM's favourite metal.

Dopesmoker, Dopethrone, other albums with "Dope" in the title
― Neil S, Friday, 16 September 2016 08:46 (seven years ago) link
I'd like to think Keldian's Outbound would make it but a) ilx hates celestial equine supernova power metal, and b) more importantly, I fucking forgot to put it on my ballot
― Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:22 (seven years ago) link
Colored Sands was my #2 because I'm not always riding the horse
― Devilock, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:23 (seven years ago) link
yay for botanist!love that record, think i was the number one voter
― nxd, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:30 (seven years ago) link
Aw, that's a good number one. I love that album too.
Listening to Souvenirs d'un Autre Monde again and the track 'Ciel Errant' is actually the Dashboard Confessional song 'Vindicated'.
― tangenttangent, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:54 (seven years ago) link
Don't think there's much left from my ballot that could place apart from Agalloch, Isis and maaaaybe the s/t Jesu album. Boris' Feedbacker could make it I guess.
I imagine Celtic Frost - Monotheist and maybe the other Triptykon will show up, Tom G Warrior always does well in these things.
Oh, I forgot Monoliths and Dimensions! That's got to place, surely.
― Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 09:59 (seven years ago) link
No idea what #1 will be, kind of hope it won't be Dopethrone, am not the biggest EW fan and it'd be nice if is was something less retro.

As well he should.

I would think as far as Sunn goes that M&D is certain, and Kannon, Altar (with Boris) and White 2 might get a look in? Though my feeling is these latter three are all considered relatively minor?
― Neil S, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:19 (seven years ago) link
He's someone I can appreciate but it's not really my kind of metal (xpost).
― Gavin, Leeds, Friday, 16 September 2016 10:20 (seven years ago) link
I had better see some Anata in the results. I just realized they haven't shown up. But tech death, even if it doesn't sound like the usual tech death, may not do well here.
