Cut this from my ballot late on. It has a couple of lovely tracks but the whole thing doesn't really work for me. Far too many saccharine interludes as well

This should be at #300 or something.

I didn't like the production on M as much as the EP, but it's still beautiful. I equally enjoy its engagements with full MBV shoegaze (Dybt I Skoven) to lovely dark folk (Skøgen Skulle Dø). It might not be the most accomplished release from today's rollout, but I think it's a sweet debut and it successfully captures the forest mood.

I wanted Myrkur to be Darkthrone and it wasn't so that's my bad. I'll revisit it soon.

That's a beltingly good record.

xpost DHG was my number 8. I haven't figured out yet why I love it so much. It was a slow burner for me-- I listened to it and found it so weird that I had to hear it again, and then realized I'd listened to it four or five times in a week. I love the vocals, but I can 100% understand why someone might not.

I found this garbage-y troll thru the malfunctioning algorithms of Youtube (h*pst*r bl*ck m*t*l) and his account is mostly worthless--surprise!--but I got a kick out of his "worst black metal albums of 2016" video because there was a bunch of stuff on there (Ygg Huur, A Northern Meadow, to some extent VALIS) that had intrigued me somewhat but that I could nit really get into before. After watching his vid, though, I actually got really eager to give those albums another listen. Like, that dude's scorn actually created a context for me to start appreciating those albums more fully.

Anyways, I bring this up now, bcz M made #2 on his list. Dude has some real hatred for Myrkur. It's really crazy how unhappy black-metal elitists seem to be about the direction in which their chosen genre is going.

Also, I only kinda like M. I feel like maybe she more substantial records ahead of her...?

xpost I like the fact that Primordial are from Skerries in the Gaeltacht (irish speaking part of the west of ireland). Would be cool if they sang (or growled) in Gaelic.

Something must be wrong with the numbers again, this should be #1

I haven't listened to Darkspace much but I remember wondering if it was great or if there was actually almost nothing going on. I'll give Dark 3.12 a chance though.

xps: Krallice isn't just about Barr though, they're kind of like (bear with me here Fugazi in the way that all four of them lock together to form a unit. That said, I just realised Orthrelm seem to have missed out on a placing.

this album is the cosmos, it is the wind

it's the most convincing intersection of americana and metal i've ever heard

in a way it isn't metal so much as ambient guitar soundscapes, but it's also metal as fuck
