who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Wednesday, 14 September 2016 17:51 (nine years ago)

I have a limited to 50 copies version of this on LP with screenprinted covers.

No, it's not worth anything.

xp

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 17:51 (nine years ago)

I am also listening to Pantheist. A very promising start!

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 17:54 (nine years ago)

Yes, The Tenant is a great album, I wasn't expecting it to place since it didn't appear in the extreme metal poll

Im ok with this album but ended up throwing my vote to Primitive and Deadly, which has From the Zodiacal Light

Drugs A. Money, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 18:29 (nine years ago)

was this the one after hex?

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 18:35 (nine years ago)

Its the 2008 one is all I know

Drugs A. Money, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 18:38 (nine years ago)

That was my #2 or 3 I think. Not metal but a gorgeous record

I assume its dinnertime in the imago household hence he silence?

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 18:44 (nine years ago)

Such a good Gates of Slumber album - the new band 'Wretch' is really quite good in same vein as well.

BlackIronPrison, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 18:45 (nine years ago)

Wow, Pantheist was wonderful! Heavy on cheese and melodrama, but really very imaginative and as CS mentioned, very changeable of genre. Broken Statue was my favourite track.

Haha dinnertime here is usually about midnight, if at all. I've just been running amongst deer and goats and imago is promulgating wisdom throughout the land.

Francis is his usual lugubrious baked-out self!

That Earth album is quite good, but it isn't the one that made my top ten

xp

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:10 (nine years ago)

what do you have against Agalloch, LJ?

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:10 (nine years ago)

I haven't listened to this Agalloch album for ages... I'm not alone in thinking it was a lot weaker than the previous.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:12 (nine years ago)

Not that they were consistently brilliant anyway

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:12 (nine years ago)

but they were

Cosmic Slop, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:15 (nine years ago)

I don't know. They're decent. But they don't have that bit of devil in them, that ingenuity or savagery I need. They're a bit...soft. Not Unlike The Waves is a jam, as I'm sure we'll all discover when its parent album finishes top 5

imago, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:17 (nine years ago)

xp I guess we disagree on that. They had their moments certainly but to me it wasn't all gold.

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:17 (nine years ago)

Pantheist is kind of lovely though!

imago, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:18 (nine years ago)

Yeah it's a bit overwrought in places but likeable.

I don't actually have this one

ultros ultros-ghali, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:22 (nine years ago)

It's second best Neurosis IMO - try From The Hill

imago, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:24 (nine years ago)

But they don't have that bit of devil in them, that ingenuity or savagery I need.

Nicely put. I like moments of Agalloch but this is my overall feeling these days too.

Cut this from my ballot late on. It has a couple of lovely tracks but the whole thing doesn't really work for me. Far too many saccharine interludes as well

imago, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 19:59 (nine years ago)

*rants*

Drugs A. Money, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 20:01 (nine years ago)

This should be at #300 or something.

cookware regression (Dinsdale), Wednesday, 14 September 2016 20:02 (nine years ago)

I didn't like the production on M as much as the EP, but it's still beautiful. I equally enjoy its engagements with full MBV shoegaze (Dybt I Skoven) to lovely dark folk (Skøgen Skulle Dø). It might not be the most accomplished release from today's rollout, but I think it's a sweet debut and it successfully captures the forest mood.

tangenttangent, Wednesday, 14 September 2016 20:08 (nine years ago)

I wanted Myrkur to be Darkthrone and it wasn't so that's my bad. I'll revisit it soon.

Sunn O))) Brother Where Art Thou? (Chinaski), Wednesday, 14 September 2016 20:13 (nine years ago)

xpost DHG was my number 8. I haven't figured out yet why I love it so much. It was a slow burner for me-- I listened to it and found it so weird that I had to hear it again, and then realized I'd listened to it four or five times in a week. I love the vocals, but I can 100% understand why someone might not.
