coz it's my #5 and it's the best and why is it so low why why why

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:39 (nine years ago)

Somebody will be happy Domains sneaked in this time, Amon Amarth lose out (the person who nominated them didn't vote fwiw)

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:39 (nine years ago)

i voted for Amon Amarth though not the one that showed up before

ciderpress, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:41 (nine years ago)

xxp I voted for it too, fairly high. You're probably not surprised about that.

ultros ultros-ghali, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:41 (nine years ago)

Piano Island also a great record, though I don't listen to it much any more, I prefer Young Machetes for my occasional Blood Brothers fix.

ultros ultros-ghali, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:43 (nine years ago)

Domains made it into the original poll results but disappeared during a re-post for some reason. They've dropped from 218 to 281, ha.

My number one, Ordo ad Chao, gained 11 spots, and Henbane dropped by 30.

Obliteration's Black Death Horizon has magically materialized, however, so that's good. Recommended for anyone who likes creeping black/death metal that moves at a sort of Autopsy pace and has an atmosphere that combines Soulside Journey and Blaze in the Northern Sky. It's a very aptly named album.

Devilock, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:46 (nine years ago)

Just put on the closing track of the Nokturnal Mortum as I forgot to listen to it earlier. tt reckons it sounds like Last Christmas by Wham

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:48 (nine years ago)

last christmas i gave you my iron cross

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:49 (nine years ago)

Is it the reissue because they covered Nights in White Satin

Devilock, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:49 (nine years ago)

mclusky do dallas has turned up in the top 200! it's an indie rock album. i voted for it

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:52 (nine years ago)

Aw fuck, Zombi were nominated and I didn't see that album was there when I voted! Fuck!

the hair - it's lost its energy (Turrican), Monday, 12 September 2016 20:53 (nine years ago)

anyway, nokturnal mortum, my discovery of the poll so far, wouldn't have been in the top 200 if we'd run it properly, so i have sean's wonky maths to thank

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 20:54 (nine years ago)

I must need to listen to Ordo ad Chao, because the rest of Devilock's post was very much regarding my interests.

Still, kinda bummed. If Domains and CDG are so low -- what kind of heavy rock/metal is high? Who am I supposed to drink whiskey with??

Yes, great album. This year's is even better.

ultros ultros-ghali, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:02 (nine years ago)

Hey, TMV haven't showed up again yet!

That is a beautiful album art. There is much Oranssi Pazuzu still to be explored

tangenttangent, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:03 (nine years ago)

xxpost

The production of Ordo ad Chao is gonna make a first listen very odd. Like I said earlier, it's very lo-fi but not in a jagged, crackling "necro" way. It just sounds distant and foggy. All the performances are stellar.

I had read someone saying it was what DSO should be, and that intrigued me -- not sure why I didn't investigate then. Maybe just because I don't think of Mayhem as that kind of band, but whatevs. On it!

Dominique, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:09 (nine years ago)

I've heard Ordo Ad Chao a couple of times, it's really cool but I need to give it a really concentrated listen. time to crack out the whisky

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:11 (nine years ago)

Which album is what DSO should be? (I assume you mean Deathspell Omega because the Detroit Symphony Orchestra is great as is. At least they were when I lived nearby.)

Ordo Ad Chao sund4r, but I can't vouch for that comparison because I haven't heard it yet!

Dominique, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:14 (nine years ago)

such a great album
xp

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:14 (nine years ago)

this was good heavy-goth iirc, not quite Pinkish Black but worth a listen

imago, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:15 (nine years ago)

Yay for Valonielu!

Drugs A. Money, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:17 (nine years ago)

I had Beastmilk on my first draft but nixed it over the course of things. Really good though, obv.

Devilock, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:18 (nine years ago)

Also: I probably shouldve voted for the Vaura album

Drugs A. Money, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:18 (nine years ago)

Looks like a Look Around You spoof of a metal album. Still, I am intrigued

Drugs A. Money, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:21 (nine years ago)

I remember when that made the metal poll the year it came out (didnt get in the main poll)

Cosmic Slop, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:22 (nine years ago)

Oh yay! This album is amaaazing. Such shredding.

tangenttangent, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:22 (nine years ago)

I never heard this one. I remember enjoying This Is It....

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Monday, 12 September 2016 21:23 (nine years ago)

Surprised that I'm actually really enjoying Darkspace II so far.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Monday, 12 September 2016 21:23 (nine years ago)

For Ash and Cinco De Mayo are my favourites from this. Really pleased to see it even this high!

tangenttangent, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:25 (nine years ago)

How does it compare to This Is It...?

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Monday, 12 September 2016 21:25 (nine years ago)

The shred/tapping stuff was what I liked most about that one iirc.

I like Marnie Stern of course, have all of her records. But I didn't vote for her in this poll because metal.

also, listening to Mayhem now, and yeah, this is cool. I like the production! It makes it sound a lot older than it is, and it's definitely not brick-walled or anything. Very proggy in places too, almost like they wanted to reincarnate King Crimson as darkly as KC always gave the impression they were (in the 70s).

Dominique, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:29 (nine years ago)

wow sons of northern darkness is way too fuckin low

who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Monday, 12 September 2016 21:29 (nine years ago)

also sweet my no. 1 placed (blood inside)

The tapping is still very much present and imo this is her best to date. I haven't actually listened to it in a while and just put on the opening track - so euphoric! It's a blisteringly quick album. I hope you like it!

tangenttangent, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:30 (nine years ago)

Having no clue who Marnie Stern is, I watched the "Immortals" video and perhaps will investigate further.

And Sons of Northern Darkness is pretty much peak Immortal. Though depending on my mood I could probably argue that any Immortal album is peak Immortal.

Devilock, Monday, 12 September 2016 21:31 (nine years ago)

oh huh, "Immortals," Immortal. Cosmic!
