Tim F, Monday, 5 September 2016 14:09 (nine years ago)

pop quiz, it's a pop quiz

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Monday, 5 September 2016 15:38 (nine years ago)

kanye = pop man no? best song on the record imo (honours even w/ RiRi & guwop)

self-clowning cozen of ILX (cozen), Monday, 5 September 2016 16:46 (nine years ago)

yeah he renamed Pop Man "Kanye West" on iTunes after it was released, which is a p good joke imo

rob, Monday, 5 September 2016 17:08 (nine years ago)

that song was alternately titled "Wet Wet" or "Elton John" or "Elton" or "John" or "Pop Man" or "Kanye West" in the space of 2 weeks

Best Beloved Trump-Pence (some dude), Monday, 5 September 2016 17:10 (nine years ago)

"Again" from the first Slime Season I've come back to a lot this year

nova, Wednesday, 7 September 2016 20:04 (nine years ago)

just discovered 'wanna be me' off of that. the one where he starts chatting about carrots.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Wednesday, 7 September 2016 23:26 (nine years ago)

First time I heard that beat it made me think of Tiny Toons from growing up for some reason, and Bugs Bunny > carrots...idk

nova, Thursday, 8 September 2016 07:22 (nine years ago)

'wanna be me' is one of my favourite songs to start the day if it's sunny outside.

if you weren't listening to it already, you probably should spend some time with this: http://beefnbrocolli.tumblr.com/post/141424018567/maha-mondays-thugga-tapes (linked upthread). 'iowa' deserves more love.

toby, Thursday, 8 September 2016 07:43 (nine years ago)

damn.. the download link doesn't work any more.

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Thursday, 8 September 2016 08:27 (nine years ago)

hey that's one of mine! here is a re-up, I added in the mastered version of Iowa that surfaced recently (but left the video rip of Worth It because it sounds sweeter somehow).

drab daddy (mahica), Thursday, 8 September 2016 15:19 (nine years ago)

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Thursday, 8 September 2016 20:11 (nine years ago)

Really dig the sound Metro Boomin uses on "Hercules" and, to use an older example, "The Blanguage." A little more spaced-out than his usual?

A+ Future/Young Thug combination producer tag intro too

Hadn't listened to I'm Up the whole way and completely skipped over SS3, going back and catching up on current-year Thug

nova, Friday, 9 September 2016 03:36 (nine years ago)

I find I like the fuller, more 'colourful' production on these productions than most of the more minimal/subdued stuff on Barter 6

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Friday, 9 September 2016 07:45 (nine years ago)

been listening to jeffery-coloring book-sremml2 on shuffle at the gym, recommended

lag∞n, Friday, 9 September 2016 15:45 (nine years ago)

Yeah with Barter 6 I really like "Dream" and, iirc, "Just Might Be," but overall it never hooked me like that.

Looking forward to being able to buy a physical copy of eventual official debut, hopefully.

all the feels in one video

A big shout out goes to the lamb chops, thos lamb chops (ulysses), Tuesday, 17 January 2017 16:59 (nine years ago)

cute concept but sort of gets tiring by the end. should have had more video of him performing the actual song.

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:21 (nine years ago)

i think the thing is he didn't show up for the video shoot

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:22 (nine years ago)

lol sorry it says that in the video

(•̪●) (carne asada), Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:25 (nine years ago)

It pats itself on the head at the end, but so many music videos are interchangeable and disposable it's pretty cool seeing one with a voice.

It kind of makes me interested in the economics of music videos, too. $100,000 seems like a ton of money to dump on a song that's extraordinarily unlikely to become a hit.

Evan R, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:47 (nine years ago)

seems like it woulda been a great video, shame

flopson, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:53 (nine years ago)

xp i would imagine YT's marketing/publicity budget is part of his contract with Atlantic and the line items for video per album released were set in ink well before the song was released... and given the label turmoil, they probably gave him a very large budget to work with as a sign of commitment. who, ultimately, is paying for that video is something of a different question.

A big shout out goes to the lamb chops, thos lamb chops (ulysses), Tuesday, 17 January 2017 18:57 (nine years ago)

Huh hadn't thought of that—a video budget essentially as part of the cost of landing an artist, not necessarily a ROI for marketing the project. Checks out, though

Other interesting takeaway here is videos might be more likely to go viral if you don't give the artist veto power over them

he sent the guy video of him performing the song!

J0rdan S., Tuesday, 17 January 2017 20:38 (nine years ago)

yeah the actual thugger on-screen content is amazing

flopson, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 20:44 (nine years ago)

http://pitchfork.com/news/70940-everything-falls-apart-in-young-thugs-wyclef-jean-video-watch/

Thought it was a gimmick but he really did not show up.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 17 January 2017 20:48 (nine years ago)

understandable the director wld be upset that thugger nuked his whole production but his superior tone kinda grates

lag∞n, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 15:23 (nine years ago)

I can see how a fourth wall breaking music video might've seemed cool in the 80s though

niels, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 17:24 (nine years ago)

rappers dont show up all the time lol

Listen to my homeboy Fantano (D-40), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:04 (nine years ago)

love this track but it's not exactly Tommy Wiseau is it?

Lennon, Elvis, Hendrix etc (dog latin), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:19 (nine years ago)

Didn't find the tone superior really, just amused

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:27 (nine years ago)

mh 😏, Wednesday, 18 January 2017 18:54 (nine years ago)

this is so good.

Treeship, Thursday, 9 February 2017 06:16 (nine years ago)

i realize these posts are pretty redundant for everyone here, who jumped on the bandwagon years ago, but still. the vocals are so crazy.

Treeship, Thursday, 9 February 2017 06:17 (nine years ago)

ilm is a safe space treesh don't sweat it

r|t|c, Thursday, 9 February 2017 14:00 (nine years ago)

It's p funny when people say they're already so over YT when really his star is still in the ascendant.

uhh this song is insanely good

lag∞n, Friday, 24 February 2017 15:46 (nine years ago)

Yeah this is great

devvvine, Friday, 24 February 2017 15:59 (nine years ago)

That's one of his best vocal performances ever. I can't believe he's still getting better

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:52 (nine years ago)

the video is really interesting too i think, hes such a twitchy and concealed visual presence but in this video (and in the song) it seems like hes opening up, and the song is called safe, this is very compelling art to me

lag∞n, Friday, 24 February 2017 17:57 (nine years ago)

yeah, it's really, really direct. He usually keeps his head down in his videos (and even on his recent album covers). But here he's not hiding his face or obscuring his words at all. I love his wild stuff, but I'd very much enjoy a full record this open

Evan R, Friday, 24 February 2017 18:08 (nine years ago)

and aesthetic of the the song too wow, its all working together, and yeah i had the same thought of a whole album like this

lag∞n, Friday, 24 February 2017 18:15 (nine years ago)

he's the best recording artist of the past 2-3 years and it's not even close.
