for me 'i move chickens' is right up there with 'ballers', 'bird flu', 'i know why' and 'i might be' as standouts

^ mildly diverting

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 1 March 2008 02:56 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not trying to save hip-hop. I tried to do that with "Rap Is Dead," and everyone looked at me like I was fucking crazy. Two years later, Nas dropped an album called Hip Hop is Dead, and everyone rode his dick like it was a fucking carnival ride.

big mike interview

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 1 March 2008 03:26 (eighteen years ago)

"America's a funny place; they have to see you suffer before they believe what you say. And sometimes they gotta make you suffer before they willing to believe what you say. And I'm in a place of suffering, so people are more apt to listen to some of this stuff from me now. But every time I write this stuff, I wonder: do they care? Because we're in the era of adults, in a club, Supermanning. Now, the Superman is the shit for kids. It's the shit for high-school kids. But if you're twenty-five years old and you're cranking that Superman in a club on a Tuesday and you gotta go to work the next day, your priorities is fucked up. That's all I'm saying."

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:05 (eighteen years ago)

leave the club kinda early cuz she gotta go to work

When he spends half the interview talking in constant vague terms about what's wrong with Atlanta these days and then goes "like my man Rocko say, umma do me," I just had to go stfu Killer Mike.

Alex in Baltimore, Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:13 (eighteen years ago)

i couldn't make it through this whole thing

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

my favorite part is when he says something like "but then you got people doing the crank-- and no disrespect to anyone in particular". whoever could he be talking about?!?!

J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:21 (eighteen years ago)

well there are 50 different kids w/ "crank that ______" songs. maybe he loves and respects Soulja Boy but just hates the copycats.

Yeah I didn't really get the whole section where he seems to be taking aim at Jeezy & Clipse specifically, as well as the coke-rap legions, then he follows up and talks about how TRUE Clipse are, how he respects Jeezy.

I thought it was good overall, and showed that he's pretty consistent and carefully-considered in his views on ish.

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Saturday, 1 March 2008 04:59 (eighteen years ago)

'i'll be the first to say it: miles davis would love lil wayne'

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 2 March 2008 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

('i'll be the first to say that thing that nobody thought to say cause it's essentially meaningless')

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 2 March 2008 04:17 (eighteen years ago)

srsly tho

Harry Reasoner: Are Black musicians genetically better than White musicians? Get me in trouble.
Miles Davis: Not better. But they play different. White musicians seem to lag behind the beat. I don’t know why.
Harry Reasoner: Because Black musicians hurt more?
Miles Davis: What do you mean hurt more?
Harry Reasoner: I mean is it…
Miles Davis: It’s not that cliche.
Harry Reasoner: It’s not that easy … to say that … Because you came out of slavery, you play on the beat.
Miles Davis: No no no. That’s got nothing to do with it.

wtf is that shit

BIG HOOS aka the steendriver, Sunday, 2 March 2008 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

would like to clarify that i'm wtf'ing @ reasoner, not miles.

new snoop album is fun but boring

deej, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 16:44 (eighteen years ago)

explain

The Reverend, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

its, like, eclectic and weird and kind of daring like the title suggests but by the end of the record you're like 'is this all there is??'

deej, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

its got some joints dont get me wrong

deej, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

I can see that

The Reverend, Wednesday, 5 March 2008 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

pretty much all i've been listening to hip hop wise is the rhymefest/MJ mixtape. he's so ingratiating and cool and awesome. charming as fuck.
