"noodley"...as in "like a noodle." I cannot imagine how you fail to hear how DMB's music could be described as such.

Regardless of how I feel about DMB, this is a dumb thing to say. EVERYONE who's had ANY measure of success will still have people listening to them ten years after their success. Fact.

Actually, I defy anyone on this thread to list a band/artist who had a hit that no one ever listens to anymore. You just can't do it unless you happen to know exactly what every human being on the face of the earth is listening to at any given moment.

Well, I meant it more in a general sense, i.e. will the Dave Matthews Band still be a going concern, and if so, will they be at all a relevant, viable force as compared to their current status.

So what would make them any different than 80% of the artists popular today? How many huge acts from 1993 are still relevant, viable forces today? (The ones I can immediately think of are Snoop, Dre and Madonna; most of the other big hitters from then have fallen off big time.)

That's a classic example of objective data used in a deeply subjective manner. The fact that the majority of people don't take Tiffany seriously or have forgotten about her doesn't change the fact that there are fans of hers today who think that she's the greatest performer ever. Furthermore, that's completely within their perogative and their rights as music listeners.

This thread has turned into a rote exercize of heaping scorn on other people's musical tastes for the cardinal sin of being different when it should have focused on heaping scorn on poxy Dave Matthews and his frightening chin.

I wouldnt expect anything else from my fellow DMB fans as they're merely responding to (unnecessary) attacks on their favorite band. A band who I truly believe are unique , stand for something and whos music is great.

okay first I'm with dan at being pissed at the regulars acting like fucktards and baiting obv. v. young foax for no good reason -- go pick on ppl. yr. own size.

second I rilly want some DMB fans to tell me which songs they like most, how the sound of his songs changed over the last few albums, why it stopped having that goofy bouncy feel of "what would you say" and if that's a good or bad thing, whether you like dave's peppy or dreamy voice more, etc.

Sterling was annoyed cuz you were ranking your own taste over some high-handed search for a true populist ethos where even 50,000 Dave Matthews phans can't be wrong cuz, above all else, one must dance side by side with the masses to show that you're keeping it real even if your own appreciation is so far removed from genuine fandom and interest that it ain't even academic it's so clinical. That's my guess anyway.

I've seen three Dave Matthews Band concerts (I'm from VA, and not only is it for lovers, it's for South African ex-pats who know just how good the weed is that grows at the feet of the Blue Ridge Mountains) and what struck me most was that there's a Jimmy Buffett-esque kulchur among the fans (partying, big smiles, neohippies), but it was firmly rooted in a Very Deep Respect for the music. No chants with certain parts. No choreographed hand movements from groups of excited grrls. None of that. And I found it really obnoxious -- the revelry that greeted the band, the closed eyes and mouthed words and shoulder hugs that made me feel like I was at a Promise Keepers rally.

Under the Table and Dreaming is good record.

I didn't 'splain myself too well in that second graf: What I meant to say was that at every other concert I've been to for a band with a Huge Fawning Following (from Buffett to the Dismemberment Plan) there have been signs of naked enthusiasm for the band shown via syncopated handclaps, arm-waving, prop-tossing, and the like. But at the DMB shows I've attended, it's been like church, only with worse music (which isn't to call DMB terrible (I do like UTTAD), but to say that gospel music is great).

Also, Sterling mischaracterized me. I am not pissed with the regulars. I am not pissed with the new DMB advocates. I do think it's a shame that vocal proponents on both sides have turned this into the "my musical taste is better than yours" debate.

There should be more inventive name-calling and teasing and less chastizing. Humor brings people together.

Actually I never called Ned in particular out, tho I was somewhat frustrated by the "we all have different tastes but MINE are better" act becuz it seemed to cut off any possible discussion about DMB rather smugly and rilly was just a more articulate version of the more irritating things coming from the DMB hordes (more excusable there becuz they haven't wedded themselves to this act through years of fine-tuning) and meanwhile tho the taunting and baiting from other quarters was what rilly frustrated me.

And y3ncey can eat a bag of stereotypical dicks. 50,000 DMB fans might be wrong but they're sure more interesting than corny indie fucks like you.
