They both played when I saw them last year BTW, though mostly one at a time.
― Tim F, Tuesday, 21 April 2009 11:36 (seventeen years ago)
nah, it was one of them and some non-Aeroplane mate of his in Australia
― Bostin' Legal (sic), Tuesday, 21 April 2009 11:53 (seventeen years ago)
no love for David Rubato - Circuit (Aeroplane Remix)?? shocking, i tell you.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 00:38 (seventeen years ago)
just starting to round up these mp3s now - last 90 seconds of 'electric feel' rmx is OO_OO
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:23 (seventeen years ago)
reminds me of when lindstrom drops in incredibly catchy keyboards - such an "ahhhh" moment
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:24 (seventeen years ago)
any news on the album?
― ❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉Plaxico❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉ (I know, right?), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:46 (seventeen years ago)
one thing that has really been bothering me is how laptoppy a lot of their stuff sounds. Like I kindof expect something a bit more lush and analogue from my balearo-disco edits, like, texturally these really bother me, they should be more decadent or something. On the other hand, the way they stretch the dynamics of these things and pack them with mad catchy new bits is pretty great imo. So I am of two minds. Luckily Aeroplane and Todd Terje both exist.
― ❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉Plaxico❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉ (I know, right?), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 22:51 (seventeen years ago)
you really don't think they're lush and decadent???? have you heard "caramellas"
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 23:01 (seventeen years ago)
yeah they're lush and decadent but kinda cheap lush and decadent, like it can get a bit babysham up in this place. fuck that autogooned mgmt vocal.
― ❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉Plaxico❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉ (I know, right?), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 23:04 (seventeen years ago)
alright i have no idea what you're talking about \(o_O)/
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Wednesday, 20 May 2009 23:33 (seventeen years ago)
They do have a kind of plasticky glittering surfaces feel, but I think this is a big part of their appeal. I don't think of Aeroplane's stuff as "balearo-disco edits", but more as, I dunno, a dance music equiv. of stuff like "Bizarre Love Triangle".
What they're definitely not doing is fetishising the organic sound of pre "dance music" dance music. Todd Terje does, and marvelously, but these are two very different approaches.
― Tim F, Thursday, 21 May 2009 00:27 (seventeen years ago)
IKR, your complaints about Aeroplane are how i feel about that solo Lindstrom album. the whole thing sounds like it was made with 1 piece of software, v limited texturally.
i like Aeroplane's plasticky quality in small doses but i dunno how much fun a whole album of it would be.
― jesus is the man (jabba hands), Thursday, 21 May 2009 03:54 (seventeen years ago)
yeah, those are both probs better ways of saying what I wanted to say.
― ❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉Plaxico❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉❉ (I know, right?), Thursday, 21 May 2009 08:23 (seventeen years ago)
Got a bad feeling this album is going to be delayed and delayed and come out 12 months after their moment has passed.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 May 2009 09:24 (seventeen years ago)
who tf wants aeroplane traxx that sound all organic
― autogucci cru (deej), Thursday, 21 May 2009 09:32 (seventeen years ago)
lindstrom remix is totally next level
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 21 May 2009 10:30 (seventeen years ago)
You mean the Aeroplane remix of Lindstrom?
How amazing it is when the organ vamps come in!!
(ironically perhaps their most 'organic' effort?)
― Tim F, Thursday, 21 May 2009 10:42 (seventeen years ago)
yeah the aeroplane remix - if i was dancing to this the organs would make me want to do so many diff things- it's like they are trying to make you break your body
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 21 May 2009 10:51 (seventeen years ago)
I think i've said it before but the interrelationship of all the different instruments reminds me a lot of Fela Kuti. But yeah, there's a sense of "You thought you knew what you were dancing to, now suffer the consequences of our unexpected second attack!"
― Tim F, Thursday, 21 May 2009 10:53 (seventeen years ago)
yeah which is weird for them because their songs/remixes always have such a deliberate intent wrt to build - it's pretty jarring and that's def a part of why it's great (besides just sounding awesome)
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 21 May 2009 10:56 (seventeen years ago)
Jordan have you heard the Allez Allez remix? That's the one when they really go for broke with the build, to the point of throwing on these ridiculous piano chords at the end. It's pretty much the exact same trick as on the MGMT mix only better cos it's faster.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Thursday, 21 May 2009 11:10 (seventeen years ago)
i have it but haven't listened to it yet - i think i fell immediately for the mgmt remix cuz i know the original inside and out - excited about the allez allez one tho
― oj da hoosman (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 21 May 2009 11:12 (seventeen years ago)
Listened to their remix of Sebastien Tellier for the first time and the OMG HOLY SHIT moment came when just before the 4th minute that whirling synth (?) hits.
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 22 May 2009 06:20 (seventeen years ago)
I wonder if that synth line exists in the original song?
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 22 May 2009 06:24 (seventeen years ago)
Discovered Tensnake's "Tavira" from the Flying Mix and wow..
― dan138zig (Durrr Durrr Durrrrrr), Friday, 22 May 2009 07:01 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah "Tavira" is gorgeous. Love the percussion.
― Tim F, Friday, 22 May 2009 07:15 (seventeen years ago)
That whirling synth isn't in the the original song but it's originally from Supernature. It's one of those remix/production tricks that seemingly always works though - Lindstrom wheeled it out on his last album for the "I am going to be extra extra ostentatious right about... now" moment. It's pretty much the ultimate icing-on-cake disco flourish.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 22 May 2009 09:39 (seventeen years ago)
I posted this in the DJ mixes thread, but for folks who haven't seen it and may be interested here's a link to a mix I did that was heavily influenced by Aeroplane and features a few of their remixes/tracks.

"La Serenissima :: EINE KLEINE NACHTMUSIK"
I haven't heard yr mix yet groovepanda but that's an awesome tune to finish with.
― Tim F, Friday, 22 May 2009 11:08 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah that tracklist looks A+++. I really want to hear that Todd Terje edit of Curtis Mayfield as well.
― Enormous Epic (Matt DC), Friday, 22 May 2009 11:18 (seventeen years ago)
also this: 10 Ain’t Nobody (Frankie Knuckles Hallucinogenic Dub) :: RUFUS & CHAKA KHAN
― just sayin, Friday, 22 May 2009 11:23 (seventeen years ago)
yeah i'm getting that now groovypanda, looks great. thanks.
xp yes that is amazing.
― jed_, Friday, 22 May 2009 11:28 (seventeen years ago)
groovypanda, this is really great. thanks!
the only transition i'm not crazy about is the one out of "williams blood" but it's working for me at home anyway. much appreciated. good work.
― jed_, Saturday, 23 May 2009 00:05 (seventeen years ago)
jammed to it at work tonight, groovypanda. really fantastic!
― The Devil's Avocado (Gukbe), Saturday, 23 May 2009 01:08 (seventeen years ago)
Might as well register since I see two things not yet in this thread:
1. They're apparently recording the album with soulwax and au revoir simone: http://vimeo.com/4532012 -- I don't like that snippet, unfortunately. And why are Aeroplane collaborating with Soulwax when Aeroplane are 100000x as good?
2. Also, they made a beautiful 5 minute mash-up for some radio show: the Annie Mac Mini Mix: search and you'll find a mediafire link pretty easily. Tracklist:
Michael Jackson : “Another Part Of Me”Laura Branigan : “Self Control”Baltimora : “Tarzan Boy”Mr Oizo : “Positif”Mike Snow : “Animal”Marguaritas : “Marguaritas”Ricchi & Poveri : “Sara Perche Ti Amo”La Bionda : “I Got Your NumberThe Juan McLean : “One Day”Gino Soccio : “Remember”Boney M : “Kalimba De Luna”The Krays : “We Are Ready When You Are”The Beach Boys : “Good Vibrations Outtakes”Macho : “Not Tonight”Mike Mareen : “Dancing In The Dark”Empire Of The Sun : “We Are The People”Friendly Fires Feat. Au Revoir Simone : “Paris”Kidz : “Miss Mars”The Golden Filter : “Solid Gold”D Pulse : “More” - Foto MixDroid : “Mito”
I particularly love the bit from dancing in the dark that they use together with the vocals from empire of the sun. That should be a song, damnit!
― bad geometry, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 04:14 (seventeen years ago)
that's a track from au revoir simone's new album. so seems like a remix.
― cutty, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 12:55 (seventeen years ago)
(the vocal track, that is)
Is the Au Revoir Simone album any good? I didn't know it existed.
― Tits Bramble (Matt DC), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 13:43 (seventeen years ago)
yes, maybe their best yet

^^^^ This!!! the slo-mo breakdown is so fucking great
WRT to the discussion upthread about the electric sheen of this shit, i think this may have already been said but it's ultimately just pop dance. i mean in interviews that's how they've described it. their first release seemed to want to operate within the nubalearica whatever vein, but esp since they've been remixing all these pop people it seems to make sense. it's just the catchiest shit you've ever heard
― space cowboy (san frandisco), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:57 (seventeen years ago)
i guess tho the cheesiness of some of the remixes is balearic at heart
also the mention of todd terje here, kinda makes me want to start a taking sides for remixes todd terje vs. aeroplane? but i feel like my brain would explode
― space cowboy (san frandisco), Tuesday, 26 May 2009 16:58 (seventeen years ago)
i think this may have already been said but it's ultimately just pop danceyeah i was sort of thrown for a loop with their mixmag mix because of just how relatively poppy it was; nothing matches the crisp perfection of that first 12" for me, those tracks are like solid perfectly engineered geometry
― QE II, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 18:26 (seventeen years ago)
whatever the fuck that means
it means like a square or a triangle
― s1ocki, Tuesday, 26 May 2009 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
groovypanda yr mix is tremendous! where did you get that L&PT mix of Silver City? I can't find that one anywhere.
