The really big release for me has really been the LP by DFA's Hercules & Love Affair, due out early next year. I’ve only heard the six-track sampler but believe me when I say that 'Classique No. 1’ will not remotely prepare you for the depth and reach of its charms. Antony (as in the Johnsons) features heavily on the vocals – but even if you, like me, were always slightly put-off by his stark, withering and (joylessly) camp solo material, you’ll be forced to reappraise when that androgynous wail his re-cast in Andrew Butler and Tim Goldsworthy's unbelievable production – all strings, horns, killer acid lines, heavy Chi-town beats and a huge dose of NY disco sass. This is one of the most exciting, revelatory and downright GOOD releases I’ve had the pleasure of beholding in a long, long time; respect to Antony as much anyone else for pulling this one off.

Yeah, I'm super-duper excited for this. The 12" just gets better and better. Not sure how I didn't notice before that Antony actually does vocals on Roar.

That Holy Ghost song was the free iTunes store download last week.

on first listen: fucking awesome. especially the knuckles mix-- very funky and early house style.

I just heard Juan Maclean's "Happy House" on his RA podcast for the first time. I'm mighty excited.

yeah, good on you for bringing up the santiago version-- i am sort of dying to hear it. as i was saying upthread, he's been getting a lot of action recently, and it seems to have come out of nowhere? i mean, i'd heard his shit before this summer, but it had never struck me, and now he has tons of new (and mostly good) remixes for big releases floating around, and is getting more hype.

ive been digging him for a while.

i've talked up his 15 minute re-edit of roxy music's "angel eyes" on other threads, and finally got to play it out a few times in the last few months to great effect.

his stuff is all over the place from harder electro-house stuff to cosmic, re-edit stuff.

his "we love ibiza" mix w/ riton is pretty great too.

Antony's always been good with decent/great backing/beats - see "A little bit of time" http://www.discogs.com/release/323632 which is fantastic. But still have no desire to listen to "I am a bird now".

How different is Blind from the club mix?

kinda surprised you prefer the original ... i much prefer the bigger, smoother sound of the remix, his voice just seems more powerful that way. The original is kinda weird & arty but also sounds too narrow or something

wow. i've only ever heard one brooks song years ago, and i always thought it was sung by a seriously gay man, and totally loved it, but had no idea it was by antony.

i first saw him on tour w/ lou reed in 03.

Anyone know if there's any more on the way from Holy Ghost? They've got another track on their MySpace - if it's indicative of a looming album (or even just another single) I will be Very Much Of The Happy. (I am stupidly angry at myself for being unable to go see them DJ at the Mountain Bar last Thursday - stupid job requiring me to be coherent at 6 AM.)

also those Syclops tracks are dope^very, "Where's Jason's K" moreso than the other one.

I know, I love that stuttery bassline on "Where's Jason's K."

I really like how this batch new singles/albums are all very good, and mostly coming from new artists; I'd even like to hear more stuff from Prinzhorn Dance School, though their album last year wasn't particularly great it hinted at good stuff

what's really maddening is that I could have sworn I remember reading that "(Hey Coach) I Read Your Diary" was all but ready to go, but for whatever reason it's just been sitting on the shelf. And then there's "Song #5" from the DFA Xmas mix from a few years back, which is v. much the BOMB.
