(except for GoS, the song, which is on both, and is an awesome song btw):

wait, which album is "Somebody's gonna change your mind" on? I thought it was the demos for this I had it in. If so, that was the best one, weird to have left it off. This should be good, I think a part of me actually prefers solo Lindsey.

"Somebody's gonna change your mind" - it's in Under The Skin (awesome song ineed)

Not really what you expect from the Buck
― I know, right?, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:15 (fifteen years ago) link
he probably just named the album GoS (almost) regardless of the previous unreleased recordings. most of the songs from that "album" later appeared/ruined on Fleetwood's albums and/or Under The Skin

this song is swell, swell is this song

you can see how Animal Collective are influenced by LB by listening to it

jesus, that never even occurred to me

but yeah, that actually seems really obvious actually

i like Under the Skin's minimalist atmospheric sound- at it's best it as strong and classic as Suicide's debut.
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 19:42 (fifteen years ago) link
Best solo album remains Out of the Cradle, but it's not great.

loved the version of "Big Love" that he did on the reunion album (the dance or whatever), with the crazy fingerpicking. I was pissed that I couldn't play that super fast banjo-esque sounding part in the middle.

Yeah, as good as OOTC and the last disc are, I think Alfred's right. Buckingham's such a great producer, guitarist and songwriter; I wonder why he hasn't been able to release a completely satisfying, great solo disc.
― Daniel, Esq., Sunday, 10 August 2008 20:45 (fifteen years ago) link
you mean "he hasn't been able to release a completely satisfying, great..disc" since TUSK
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 20:48 (fifteen years ago) link
i look at it from the otehr side: it's great that he still releses some awesome stuff between the mediocre one's, as oppose to lots of aging rockers who are became just plain boring or bad as a whole
― Zeno, Sunday, 10 August 2008 20:51 (fifteen years ago) link

Cuz, like lots of other talented men, he needs help?

I kindof like how on his solo stuff he clearly has nobody to even slightly reign him in and he just makes these bonkers science experiments.
Bwana is so good it gives me a sugar headache for example.

"red rover" from the last fleetwood mac album sounds SO MUCH like animal collective.
anyway i am officially anticipating the new lindsey album, his last one was such a lovely little record.

a friend pointed this out to me a few weeks back, "go insane" acoustic from '92. kind of amazing. dug this song as a kid but don't think the studio version's attention-grabbing production really holds up over time. stripped down version is a small revelation:

vocal @ 3:05, holy SHIT

"d.w. suite" from Go Insane is one of my fav ever Lindsey joints. so strange, so beautiful, so great
― Snámh dá Én (missingNO), Thursday, 12 May 2011 06:51 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah the original "Go Insane" buries a creepy song in trendy production.
I love the capital-B-Baroque vibe of The Dance version.

I've seen him three or two times live lately, and it's interesting to watch him do songs that required his Guitarmy of five guitarists back in '92 or whenever. His current band is just him and three buds, but it sounds pretty great. Did that dog barking in "Holiday Road" and everything.

having a moment with go insane today. i know the production's considered "dated" but i don't know, i don't think i'll ever get over the idea of buckingham fucking around with a fairlight.

That's the only one I don't own. I love crazy eighties production on aging boomer records.
― livin in my own private Biden hole (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Sunday, 7 August 2011 19:32 (twelve years ago) link
i also think it's crazy and amazing that this record has a locked groove on the first side.

ALSO there's a new lindsey song streaming at fontana distribution: http://www.fontanadistribution.com/

Lindsey is so, SO classic; it doesn't get much more classic. His contributions to Tusk alone show what a strange and amazing place his mind was back then, and don't get me started on the Go Insane LP... Brad, that locked groove at the end of side one is insane! I found this several months back on vinyl and play it all the time. Alfred, you must get it.

i've really been enjoying Out Of The Cradle lately. it's a big sprawling mess but a constantly engaging one
the production is like an understated, minimalist version of tango in the night's hazy balearic rain forest, one song has pretty much the same beat as "family man". must've sounded kinda anomalous when it came out in 1992
"all of my sorrows" almost unbearably beautiful whispered windchime reverb drenched lullaby
it's very good
― missingNO, Monday, 8 August 2011 03:41 (twelve years ago) link
"doing what i can" is basically "big love" w/ new lyrics, still totally exhilarating tho
― missingNO, Monday, 8 August 2011 03:57 (twelve years ago) link
Touring this fall. Psyched as usual. Having seen him both with and without the Mac, more without, sometimes I wonder if he even realizes the other guys aren't there.

Love this "Cradle" song, which is a total unabashed anthem, despite Lindsey's predictably crazed vocals:

Of course it is. His is without a doubt the best post-gigantic boomer-band solo career. Nobody even comes close (I admit that the competition ain't all that, but that's hardly the point).
It's startling, actually, how his vulnerability and neuroses never ceases to spill into his songs and his playing, despite the fact that he's a multi-millionaire rockstar who used to sleep with Stevie Nicks on a very regular basis.
Lindsey's the man.

he is going back to Under The Skin territory which is a good place to be. and it might be even better from that record too.

I love how consistent all his solo stuff has been. It's all pretty interchangeable, in a good way. His writing, performing and production is just so distinctive.
