I just got around to watching Made of Stone (dunno why I waited so long) and it reinstilled some faith in these guys. I like the two new tracks

I'd be all over a new Stone Roses record if it leaned towards their more groove/funk-oriented stuff. 'Beautiful Thing' has grown on me a lot.

... how's that new album coming along?

prediction: they won't make it as they probably are at each other's throats and since the two tracks they released were total bobbins odds on the rest is complete dreck.

I find it hard to believe any one could sincerely say All For One is a good song. Internal conflicts aside, it truly sounds career-dismantling

Well, it's more that people are interpreting some comments Ian Brown made from the stage on the last date of their tour as saying the band were splitting, rather than them coming out and saying "we are splitting" ...

'All For One' wasn't very good, but I liked 'Beautiful Thing'

I wouldn't imagine it would be easy to stick that song on an album after the beating it took. But the split is probably because Reni is a nightmare

Fool’s Gold is one of those love it or hate it songs huh? There’s another thread on ILM posted upthread where everyone seems to hate it passionately.

I didn’t care much for it but I fell in love with it being young and dancing to it in Barcelona’s Sidecar. I was only an hour or so in there.. maybe it was the night, maybe the dj, maybe I was too young to know any better, but the songs he played all felt very exciting to me despite knowing them beforehand.

He also played This Charming Man by the Smiths. whichj remind me: This might sound like total bollocks it to many in here but I think I prefer the Stone Roses debut to any of The Smiths albums. It rocks in ways the Smiths never did for me and I don’t care for Morrisey as a lyricist either way.

Fool's Gold is all-time great

It is, but an all-time great track that I'm not sure I ever need to hear again at this point.

i came to love the s.t, but i was disappointed when i first bought it and there was nothing as righteously pure-groove and melody-less as "fools gold"

I never, ever get tired of the s/t album.

i was listening to the SR debut over and over in the car for a few days last month and it still sounded just as great as ever. i've always had the weird US version that ends w/ "fools gold" and i kinda can't imagine it not ending that way. i might love "what the world is waiting for" even more though.

U.S. version has 7" version "elephant stone" too which is crucial
