2013 was a great year for Ariel Rechtshaid. Anything worth checking out by him from 2014 thru now?
― flappy bird, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 17:54 (nine years ago)
thank you, btw, to the gross awful sexist hacks at la weekly for reminding me she's playing here next week. just got my tix.
― fact checking cuz, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 18:08 (nine years ago)
her best song is obv "you're not the one"

You're Not the One reminds me a bit of In A Big Country, and not in a bad way
― Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 21:10 (nine years ago)
we'll see about that won't wewe'll see about that won't we
― le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 21:14 (nine years ago)
You're Not the One reminds me of a lot of "Public Image", also not in a bad way.
― Spencer Chow, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 22:12 (nine years ago)
one of the last CD i have ever bought, got the two disc version. i think it is fine but not one of the best of this decade but maybe i need to play a bit more.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:04 (nine years ago)
I adore "You're Not The One" but it's very twinned with "Heavy Metal Heart" for me, I can't imagine thinking of one as a standout vis a vis the other.
― Tim F, Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:10 (nine years ago)
Don't sleep on "I Blame Myself," people
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:20 (nine years ago)
i'm not it is a highlight but something like "Omanko" sort of left me cold.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 23 June 2016 01:25 (nine years ago)
"you're not the one" is prob the best sky song but my fav is "love in stereo"
I probably complain upthread about how it doesn't have much of a chorus. it has exactly the right amount of chorus
― who is extremely unqualified to review this pop album (BradNelson), Thursday, 23 June 2016 03:03 (nine years ago)
god i love "omanko"
― fact checking cuz, Thursday, 23 June 2016 03:07 (nine years ago)
omanko is the jamc-est one and i tend to loop it like six times in a row, but real highlight (at the moment) is either i blame myself or ain't your right. "we'll see about that won't we" poss my favorite moment.
terrific album yeah. i listened to it for the first time just a few weeks ago and had it in regular rotation by the time the l.a. weekly piece happened. when synchronicity sucks.
― le Histoire du Edgy Miley (difficult listening hour), Thursday, 23 June 2016 03:46 (nine years ago)
every day i hear them saying something else i know

― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 04:19 (nine years ago)
i like the whole album, but that song is really something: vulnerable but bitter... self pity transmogrified into ANGER, which is the only way it ever heals, as anyone who listens to punk already knows
― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 04:21 (nine years ago)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1gDuaY8-V4
i love the pauses on this track. 1:27: "you put my faith... back in..... boys. back in.... boys" followed by that sputtering engine shoegaze guitar effect. i could listen to that forever.
― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 04:32 (nine years ago)
i am also a fan of the album art. weirdos claimed at the time she looked terrified, like she was about to be attacked, but i don't see fear on her face at all. more like anger or disdain or maybe just resolve. almost all of the emotions reflected in the songs can be read into her expression here. it's a good portrait, even if i am not a big fan of gaspar noe overall
― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 04:43 (nine years ago)
Yeah, it's a very Highway 61-esque "fuck you" kind look. Anyone who says she looks terrified needs their head examined.
― flappy bird, Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:11 (nine years ago)
*kind of
her expression doesn't indicate fear, but her physical posture is somewhat defensive. torso turned away from the camera, shoulders up, chin tucked. can see as how it might read as threatened, wary.
― oculus lump (contenderizer), Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:35 (nine years ago)
def. she's "turning away" from people's expectations of her as a musician and a public figure, casting a cold eye on the culture that wants to pin her down as one thing or the other.
― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:47 (nine years ago)
the cover fits with the album's lyrical preoccupations imo.
― Treeship, Thursday, 23 June 2016 05:48 (nine years ago)
not listened to this in ages, so this thread revival did a good thing as it's f*cking brilliant.
― mark e, Saturday, 25 June 2016 18:59 (nine years ago)
everything I'd want in a new JAMC album & more
this is not that far removed from my opinion re this album.
kristine = JAMC vs girl pop = perfection.

love the twitchy guitars and synths churning in the background
― Treeship, Thursday, 29 September 2016 10:49 (nine years ago)
Dang, I was hoping this was bumped for something from the new album
― Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 29 September 2016 12:31 (nine years ago)
you blame yourself
― The burrito of ennui (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 29 September 2016 13:04 (nine years ago)
You think you know me so well
― Al Moon Faced Poon (Moodles), Thursday, 29 September 2016 13:13 (nine years ago)
Yikes, the only vinyl copy of this on Amazon is going for $85
― Evan R, Thursday, 29 September 2016 13:46 (nine years ago)
weird.
― Treeship, Friday, 30 September 2016 01:16 (nine years ago)
i'm psyched for the new album but also worried about what it will be like, with that provocative title and all
― Treeship, Friday, 30 September 2016 01:18 (nine years ago)
treeship that revive was an act of violence
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 1 October 2016 01:59 (nine years ago)
Weird to think it's been longer since the album came out than it was between the time this thread started and the album was finally released.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 3 February 2017 03:55 (nine years ago)
Sry for false revive.

― Fluffy Saint-Bernard (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 3 February 2017 04:02 (nine years ago)
album never came out cuz the label gave her entire budget to halsey
― J0rdan S., Friday, 3 February 2017 04:22 (nine years ago)
Hang on, I don't want that to be true, but I also believe it could be?
Either way, fuck Halsey.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Friday, 3 February 2017 04:25 (nine years ago)
it's what i heard a while back... i'm sure it's not the whole story but it's seems eminently plausible
― J0rdan S., Friday, 3 February 2017 04:34 (nine years ago)
fuck that sucks
sounds like it's coming out this year though?
― flappy bird, Friday, 3 February 2017 04:47 (nine years ago)
Looking forward to seeing her in "Twin Peaks"
― Everything Moves Towards The Sun (Ross), Monday, 6 February 2017 02:44 (nine years ago)
i thought by now we'd have a new sky ferreira album and i'd have seen her on twin peaks and hillary clinton would be the president
― Treeship, Sunday, 25 June 2017 00:59 (eight years ago)
I almost revived this thread a day or two ago for the same reason.
― Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Sunday, 25 June 2017 01:04 (eight years ago)
fucking hell I want a new sky ferreira record it's been way too long. I can't believe that LA Weekly article was a year ago.
