self serving political grandstanding is the name of the game when it comes to musicians and politics. a good dash of narcissism and myopia doesnt hurt either. too much reason and you lose emotional impact. also, artists are sensitive about their shit (to quote ms badu) and prefer to think subjectively rather than intellectually, so trying to introduce objectivity doesnt always go down too well.

yes, on her part. like i said, she's throwing shade at blm in order to elevate herself & the causes she cares about, which strikes me as a shitty move. there are already more than enough people out there chanting "all lives matter".
― oculus lump (contenderizer), Wednesday, 22 June 2016 12:22 (nine years ago)
yeah, that was def petty and unnecessary. and surprising from someone as conspiratorial about controls of power as her. directing her ire at the wrong target.
― StillAdvance, Wednesday, 22 June 2016 12:33 (nine years ago)
although, even allowing for MIA as a kind of political-cause-hipster, she doesnt actually say BLM has no point, or no cause. shes not throwing shade *AT* BLM. shes really throwing shade at the media.
ok im going to stop talking about this now.

I'm going to try to sneak the "clean" version of "212" into Friday's school assembly. It seems fine--a little, um, choppy--but I've got to give it an extra-close listen in the car tomorrow morning.

m.i.a.'s attempt to criticise americans' ignorance of and disinterest in non-american issues had a fair point somewhere in it but just came out a disaster. like, you can make that point without criticising #blacklivesmatter surely.
(on a vaguely related note this is very much why i've always disliked the "POC" umbrella. so unhelpful to conflate different marginalisations that are not on the same scale or of the same nature and do not have the same history.)

it prob lent to some sense of solidarity once. but now, more people/groups are less interested in wider solidarity efforts, than they are in their own immediate group. everyones a little narcissist. except azaelia obv. she wants everyone to join forces and work together. just not zayn malik.

She makes it hard to even try to listen at her music when she acts like a human dumpster fire at any chance she gets. She should get a slander lawsuit for this bullshit.

Is she still supporting Trump?

Record deal with RZA lost since he wouldn't back up her claims.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 08:18 (nine years ago)
yeah, after I saw that she was there because RZA took her along, I was counting down the seconds until he dropped her like a hot potato
I wish there was video of Russell Crowe quietly picking her up and depositing her in the hallway after she started yelling shit
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 15:24 (nine years ago)
Isn't RZA kind of wack too?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:20 (nine years ago)
I think he's done enough things and collaborated with enough people that I'm willing to go out on a limb and guess that he doesn't threaten to cut people he's just met
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:28 (nine years ago)
Anyhow, this is obviously a publicity stunt tantrum by Banks. I get it... she's a b-list celebrity in an a-list celebrity party and she knows that pulling a tantrum in there will get her press and sadly it worked. But there are limits... accusing someone of being a racist and a rapist to get attention is super douchey and it should even get you prison time. Shit is not funny.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:28 (nine years ago)
Yeah RZA seems ok... a bit crazy but civilized... he brought Azealia to the party tho. If I were Crowe I would seriously consider hanging out with RZA again by association.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:31 (nine years ago)
imo she has genuine issues and has 86'ed her music career by acting erratic
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:33 (nine years ago)
what? it's not like RZA brought her as a best friend, he was working with her professionally and that link was severed almost immediately after this happened!
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:34 (nine years ago)
Like if I bring someone to your place, they cause a problem, and in response I cut all ties with them, you're going to cut me off for making a logical choice?
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:35 (nine years ago)
and wtf is "crazy but civilized" because that sounds like some weird coded racism!
It's a shame because she has some brilliant music but her constant beefing on social networks where she's legit racist and homophobic makes me hate her. If she's actually pathologically crazy and not just an attention whore I hope she gets some help and gets back to work. If she continues down this route she'll lose whatever fans she has left.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:39 (nine years ago)

Whoa wait what? How is that comment racist? I meant like he's crazy but not pathologically crazy, a crazy person that can socialize. The sort of crazy you invite to a party at your house without fear it will break a glass and call you a rapist.
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:42 (nine years ago)
why are u calling him crazy at all
― Spottie, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:43 (nine years ago)
yeah I don't get it, he's definitely very enigmatic and creative but he always comes off really low-key
― mh 😏, Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:47 (nine years ago)
I think he's crazy in a bizarre life style way not an outburst attention seeking way.
Also he hanged out with ODB, now with Azealia. You have to be a little bit crazy to hang out with that kind of trouble.

Anyhow forget I mentioned RZA at all apparently calling him crazy is racist so I dont want to continue that conversation. I just want Azealia to stop being insane and get back to doing what she does best.
Is calling Azealia insane is somehow racist too or is thst ok?
― ✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:52 (nine years ago)
Calling someone who isn't known for doing crazy things "crazy" will certainly cause people to look at you askance.

― ¶ (DJP), Thursday, 20 October 2016 20:58 (nine years ago)
RZA is a 5% which I find crazy (religious people in general are a bit crazy imho). 5% includes a belief that white people were created by an evil scientist named Yakub 6000 years ago (not joking about this). Originally created by black men as a response to being told they were animals for centuries. So if you want to really bring race to this conversation, by being a 5% RZA is slightly racist as he believes in a system thay has no place in modern times.

What the hell. Anyway, statement from RZA from a couple of hours back:
https://www.facebook.com/RZAWU/posts/10155887458442588
Peace. Normally I don't respond to negative social media attacks towards me. Yet in this case of Azealia Banks I'm compelled to respond. Firstly I only wish the best for her and any struggling artist in this complex industry. Azealia was brought to my attention while I was casting my next Film Coco. I heard the rumors of her problems in the industry but disregarded them with the rationality everyone is innocent until proven guilty. So my producer and I fought for her to be in the film and we succeeded. During the filming process things ran smooth and she delivered. Thus my only experience with her had been professional. The only brief social moment was at the wrap party. Therefore "I HAD NO REAL EXPERIENCE OF HER SOCIAL BEHAVIOR..." A few weeks ago Azealia hit me up for some economic help and bong I gave a helping hand. She then followed up asking me to help her get a record deal. I called a friend and bong a record deal was on the table. The only clause my buddy gave was I be the filter because the word is "she is volatile". I called her and told her a deal was in the workings. She immediately, prematurely went to social media and claimed she signed a deal with RZA Yet no deal was signed. I didn't respond or comment to her post because I'm not the type to stop the hustle. I actually wanted her to win. I advised her to stay focus, leave social media and tabloids alone and let your music and art do your talking. She then hits me for a ticket to LA to work and Bong I comply. She then needs a place to stay and bong I put her in a hotel.I returned to LA shortly after and we scheduled a meeting. I invited her to meet me at the BHH Polo Lounge. Yet I head also planned on spending some time with my Buddy RC in his suite so I ask him can she join. He says "cool Bobby" so I invited her. Before the night is over Azealia is insulting half the room she becomes loud and obnoxious. There was nothing funny about her behavior. I felt a little embarrassed because she was my guest. Still verbal abuse can be tolerated but when it goes physical...Azealia threaten to cut a girl in the face with a glass, then actually grabs a glass and physically attacks for no logical reason. Russell blocked the attack and expelled her from the suite. Seeing is believing and I saw her behave as an obnoxious erratic individual and in the circles I frequent this was unprecedented. I was totally puzzles by her and thought maybe meds or booze or something had her zoned out. Nevertheless I made sure she got home safe. THIS IS NOT A RACE OR GENDER ISSUE. I did not hear Russell call her a N::gg::::I'm not trying to protect Russell from anything he is a man of his own Caliber. My art, talent and success speaks for it self and Azealia's recent slander of me and self victimization reflect's the personality of the person that was in that room that night. I have a wife, daughters, sisters and females on my staff so I protect women everyday. I pray none of them ever behave the way I witnessed Azealia Banks behaved that night.Rza
