the autumn 2004 issue seems to have been an extremely low-key and limited release (due to "chewing gum" only making #25) but 12"s of "my heartbeat" are circulating so it's likely that'll be out as a single first followed by the album release proper.

i suspect that all the copies in london record shops at the time of the first release were bought without exception by ilxors!

Marcello Carlin, Thursday, 13 January 2005 10:08 (twenty-one years ago)

wot a lovely thread. so, this was ILM in 2004. not so bad.

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 13 January 2005 10:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Too little love for "Always Too Late"! BTW, the release phases of this album baffles me -- it's already been marked down by the chains here in Norway, actually.

Translation trivia: "mindre tilgjengelig" = "less accessible".

OleM (OleM), Thursday, 13 January 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

That Fulton remix bites.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Thursday, 13 January 2005 14:03 (twenty-one years ago)

so is this where i get cheeky and ask someone to gmail me the whole damn album except for "chewing gum" and "heartbeat"?

yes, i think it is!

CharlieNo4 (Charlie), Thursday, 13 January 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I can do that.

xpost

ana (ana), Thursday, 13 January 2005 14:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ana (ana), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:42 (twenty-one years ago)

David Fincher's gone back to basics, I see.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Thursday, 13 January 2005 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

aw bless 'er, cool video - won't blow minds but fits the song just fine

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:11 (twenty-one years ago)

(chart prediction: twentyfuckingthree) - at the very least Radio 2 should be all over it if not 1

Stevem On X (blueski), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

is nice

Jaunty Alan (Alan), Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Heartbeat should've been the single in the first place. This and Greatest Hit, er, bust Chewing Gum's bubble

asl, Thursday, 13 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm probably the only one who loves the Braxe and Royskopp mixes of "Heartbeat" more than the original. For some reason, I just feel the album version never takes off. I think the tight/stomping drums play a big part in why it feels so grounded to me, while both remixes frame the melody with this type of levity which makes me understand a little better why people love the song to death.

Also, I've just heard the original "I Will Get On" and it is excellent. Should have been on the album!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Thursday, 13 January 2005 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

somebody yousendit the braxe mix!

please

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:51 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, yousendit seems to be down

should be working later on

ana (ana), Friday, 14 January 2005 12:56 (twenty-one years ago)

That's quite an improvement on the Fulton - basically, it's the Daft Punk 'Take Me Out' mix for the tweemotional party set ie just enough tweaking and re-editing to work in a club, and deceptive for what it is. The drums have been softened for the Scots-indie fans way up top.

Captain GRRRios' Giggletits (Barima), Friday, 14 January 2005 14:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I wasn't too keen on the Fulton or Royksopp remixes but this Braxe one gets it so right. Retains the bitter-sweetness but stretches it out into the daziness the original mix has to pull back on in the interests of pop.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually - the Röyksopp one is pretty good. It just takes a bit of getting used to.

Alba (Alba), Friday, 14 January 2005 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Missed this last year:

I really do love that Braxe remix. I was listening to it yesterday and started dreaming that the new "Technique part ii" New Order album would sound like that but with more new ordery drum patterns.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 10:30 (twenty-one years ago)

She was checked as a hot new thing for 2005 by both OMM and Time Out, but both of them are calling the album Anniemal, but the copy I have is just called Annie.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Need to hear this Royksopp one.

Annamal, that's weeeeiirrd.

Stevem On X (blueski), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

oooohhh.

The FakeID mix is so good!

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I don’t know. I guess the 80s was – there was a lot happening. There’s a very big difference between the 70s and the 80s: production changed very much, very suddenly. People were experimenting with electronic music, quite extremely. Even people like Duran Duran! I think that kind of extremism disappeared some time in the 90s. People got a little bit…

It's the Chorley FM DJ!

Peter Stringbender (PJ Miller), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Shhhhh! We're trying to enjoy this while it lasts!

why must we cut onions? (Lynskey), Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I caught Chewing Gum on Popworld and thought it was amazing and haven't heard it since. Saw Heartbeat on that CH4 music video show that's on in the mornings and really liked that.

Can anyone get me the original Chewing Gum?

I've tried searching the record shops in my town and can't find it anywhere! No luck on the nerdnet either...!

Cheers, Louie

Louie Strychnine, Tuesday, 25 January 2005 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

This is a stupid idea. With all the Norwegians in Fabric, Sweden will take the opportunity to invade again.
