This urgent piece of news ran in a local paper the day after the verdict:

Man, some publicist is earning their keep.

That's one angle.

LOS ANGELES - Phil Spector sentenced to 19 years to life in prison for the murder of Lana Clarkson.

James Mitchell, Friday, 29 May 2009 18:31 (seventeen years ago)

Kool G Lapp (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 29 May 2009 18:33 (seventeen years ago)

Spector was just playing with my dick and suddenly it just went off, I swear.

I have no idea what kind of facility he's gonna go to, but for someone who's been protecting/surrounding himself with bodyguards/tough guys since he was a teenager, he may be in for a bit of a shock

Kool G Lapp (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 29 May 2009 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

"Tiny": C'mere Phil....yeah, you're just the right height. Go to town.
Phil: eep!

The Daily Express fell for it: PHIL SPECTOR'S BIZARRE BLOG ENTRYS (sic)

James Mitchell, Thursday, 4 June 2009 10:46 (seventeen years ago)

Why did these papers not even consider the idea that this could be a hoax?

Jesus Christ, Attorney at Law (res), Thursday, 4 June 2009 14:36 (seventeen years ago)

because that would have meant not running a story.

Mark G, Thursday, 4 June 2009 14:39 (seventeen years ago)

and since when did truth get in the way of a good story?

request thread title change to Phil Spector: Murderer! Twitterer!

also this interview has so many WTFs in it, came at a weird time in his career. Its quoted a bunch in the Ribowsky bio "He's A Rebel" but I'd never read the whole thing before: http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/philspector/articles/story/5939971/phil_spector_sounds_off

lolz

That works on so many levels ("screw" = prison guard)

I wish he hadn't adapted my critique of his "ilxor" moniker (Myonga Vön Bontee), Thursday, 11 June 2009 07:22 (sixteen years ago)

you know what's weird is that Stephen Erlewine says on his review of the "Back to Mono" box set that some fan favorites like "Do the Screw" are missing. Kind of an odd comment given that the song is really obscure except as folklore.

Jesus Christ, Attorney at Law (res), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:49 (sixteen years ago)

its a 10 minute long joke song that's not that good and was never officially released, why would it be included? What a weird thing to complain about.

Kitchen Paper Towel (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 11 June 2009 15:50 (sixteen years ago)

I gotta say; I like the song-- especially the monotonous radio voice (Spector?) that comes on and says "Dance the Screw" at the end of every verse. That voice is just perfect.

the song is also written about on Snopes.

That's so cool. That's so badass.

I'm Some Guy (u s steel), Friday, 12 June 2009 13:50 (sixteen years ago)

Rachelle Spector was very relieved to see her husband transferred out of North Kern State Prison where she complained that Spector was being abused. She even wrote a letter to prison officials about the alleged abuse in which she detailed how he was forced to sleep naked on the floor for two nights and to eat out of a bowl with his hands "like a dog."

That's really not how most dogs eat.

how's that disco song?

Out on the streets, they call him Phil Speccccctor.

Michael F Gill, Friday, 5 February 2010 23:08 (sixteen years ago)

how's that disco song?

her voice isn't a patch on Ronnie Spector's that's for sure. but its good! about what you would expect a Spector approximation of a disco beat to sound like

mark kerfuffalo (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 5 February 2010 23:09 (sixteen years ago)

that cher stuff is good but every rip i've ever downloaded is really muffled. or maybe the production is horribly muffled (even by wall-of-sound standards)?

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:09 (sixteen years ago)

do people think his incarceration will mean that we won't get nice remastered/repackaged collections of his material ever? i mean, it was taking long enough even before he killed a woman.

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:09 (sixteen years ago)

wow, that sounds callous. sorry.

but as everyone knows there are tons of p.s. productions (even from the mid-60s heyday) that have never seen official rerelease. and the mastering from that early 1990s box set leaves much to be desired. i should probably be collecting original philles 45s but, you know, life is short and stuff.

figuratively, but in a very real way (amateurist), Sunday, 7 February 2010 03:10 (sixteen years ago)

dunno, i kind of imagine once Phil shuffles off this mortal coil, the stigma of his (admittedly horrible) personality/life will be lessened and there'll be a good overview of his stuff. a lot of what was wonderful about so-called Spector music was the result of a lot of different factors/musicians/arrangers, rather than being the result of one mastermind. it'd be a shame if all of that was lost imo.
