Just finished this thread (took me two days), and this:

this is weird. how did this photograph show up when I posted a different link. I don't love this photo of a pig jumping off a diving board.

is where I officially lost it. Three different people peeked their head into my office to see what was going on...

Users of the "I Love Music" group should be warned that "Keith Ratcher" is the nickname of a notorious identity thief whose real name is Olatunji Oluwatosin. Under no circumstances should you send your details, particularly credit card details, to this man.

If you have in the past several hours submitted your details to him, please contact me immediately, or read the Metropolitan Police guide to protecting yourself online:

A little good comic relief for an otherwise totally weird day.

I miss marissa too, this thread is ... uncomfortable ... without her.

marissafan2 (marissafan2), Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:24 (twenty years ago)

I think you are all a sweet bunch with good senses of humor.
the bango has value.
ukulele is inferior to the banjo in my opinion. Bango sounds good for very few things.
It has value. But in my opinion banjo is very limited.
I love Bouzouki's.
BTw...nicolas is hysterical.
him and his friends from France must have been drunk or stoned when they did the Mer Des Rats cover.
That was really entertaining.
I told Nicolas in a letter that I had a rat and mouse that came into the house.
I had left lentils out one night.
I guess I forgot that it was sitting there on the counter. I live in a very wooded area...alot of rodents..squirrels , birds..
cats..possums...skunk...deer...
So I told Nicolas, like I said, that I had become friends with the rodents. I feed squirrels sometimes.
but i didn't purposely feel that rat that came into the house.
Now Nico made a joke out of this. what a funny man.

marissa -marchant, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

The bango is like hitting a piece of tin with a dead pig.

marissafan2 (marissafan2), Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

the banjo can have some value.
not superior value.
but in some celtic music it sounds good.
But it is not a beautiful instrument like Greek Bouzouki.

marissa -marchant, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

Curtis Institute has gone way downhill.
My teacher was talking not want further contact with you for the rest of life.
I don't like cold don't support women who play jazz.
Bela can only handle supporting Cool. but he is into bluegrass chicks. and I think YOU DON'T RESPECT ME, AND YOU SHOULD IF YOU ARE REAL primitive instrument, sometimes he evolves. Most times,
If this is Nicolas Quemener often entertaining and seldom beautiful.
they are a good sounds like nothing.
the radio act like one, and doesn't.

I admit I do have trouble thinking about editing my writing on here and I do leave out words and it does primitive at times. But I am packing and I have 5000 pounds of things...I have alot on my mind. I am moving. Do you enjoy moving?

marissa -marchant, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:33 (twenty years ago)

I was sitting perfectly still for 5 hours, but then I moved a little.

Magic Marissa, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

See, I did it again. I left out the word "sound."
sorry. I do know how to write, but I am busy right now. I have to pack boxes..clean..

marissa -marchant, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:35 (twenty years ago)

marissa fan, Thursday, 18 August 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

Marissa Fan,

I think they have com-pu-ters at the library!!

Let's chat on IRC, k?

Confounded (Confounded), Thursday, 18 August 2005 21:18 (twenty years ago)

I think that what Bela has played on the banjo has turned me off. But sometimes it has turned me on.
I think it had this 1020's sound. somewhere around there. Bicyclops reminded me of something retro.
It sounded beautiful in it's own way.
Prelude had beauty on bango. some Celtic songs have beauty on bango.
I think where Bela has gone wrong is trying to make this instrument into something it isn't.
He plays banjo for music that sounds superior on other instruments.
I wasn't impressed with hearing Banjo in a classical setting.
the other instruments masked the limitations of the Banjo.
It would have really impressed me if Bela was great multi instrumentalist and played his jazz on guitar and then played various pieces on banjo. Then I would think it was more cool.
I don't think they are cool and I don't think Rap is cool at all.
I like some Africian music. I don't think Rap is Africian.
Africian music is mostly superior to Africian american rap or white rap.
I played in an africian restaurant in NYC and the people were quiet, polite and nothing like african americans.
They are very appreciative of other kinds of music.
The Africians that I meet in NYC from Africia don't like Africian Amercians, they think they are rude, loud and not gentile.
why bela didn't become a multi instrumentatlist. He thought people would be wowed by having some play classical, jazz and other things on Banjo. Well, I haven't been. I think multi instrumentalists would be more interesting.

marissa -marchant, Thursday, 18 August 2005 23:01 (twenty years ago)

I meant 1920's sound...sorry that I can't edit.

marissa marchant--, Thursday, 18 August 2005 23:02 (twenty years ago)

Marissa, we need to discuss Prince. Somebody get Matos in here and we'll turn this into a Prince Rogers Nelson class. Marissa, are you interested in learning more about Prince? He is a talented person. He has overcome some of your stumbling blocks. In many ways, I think you are very similar artists. For starters, he is short.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 18 August 2005 23:09 (twenty years ago)

Marissa, I would be interested in knowing what you think about people who combine hiphop and classical influences. For example, what do you think of this song?

Kevin Erickson, Thursday, 18 August 2005 23:31 (twenty years ago)

i m 5 foot 8 1/2
