i take that back. "CURRENTLY NOT LICENSED FOR SALE IN AUSTRALIA"? fuck you bleep

electricsound, Friday, 9 November 2007 00:24 (eighteen years ago)

uh, how come my bleep has suddenly gone in US$ and telling me things aren't availabe in australia?!

jed_, Friday, 9 November 2007 00:37 (eighteen years ago)

I really wish the DFA (well all labels which derive a significant portion of their income from singles, but due to selfish interest I especially mean the DFA) would release compilations a lot more frequently - that way MP3 blogs have a complete package to hype instead of just giving the whole game away out of laziness or lack of promotiona acumen (which I freely admit I've done in the past and will most assuredly do in the future).

not to mention Compilation #2 is straight-up one of my very favorite releases of this decade and I would sell limbs for a similarly-minded sequel. Lord knows their releases over the last few months certainly haven't done much to extinguish that fire.

^^^This. I would totally dig a new DFA comp.

CURRENTLY NOT LICENSED FOR SALE IN UNITED KINGDOM

ok the hercules and love affair 12" is greaaaatttttt

dmr, Tuesday, 27 November 2007 23:20 (eighteen years ago)

it is. apparently ther's an album for early next year too!

haitch, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

from here:

The really big release for me has really been the LP by DFA's Hercules & Love Affair, due out early next year. I’ve only heard the six-track sampler but believe me when I say that 'Classique No. 1’ will not remotely prepare you for the depth and reach of its charms. Antony (as in the Johnsons) features heavily on the vocals – but even if you, like me, were always slightly put-off by his stark, withering and (joylessly) camp solo material, you’ll be forced to reappraise when that androgynous wail his re-cast in Andrew Butler and Tim Goldsworthy's unbelievable production – all strings, horns, killer acid lines, heavy Chi-town beats and a huge dose of NY disco sass. This is one of the most exciting, revelatory and downright GOOD releases I’ve had the pleasure of beholding in a long, long time; respect to Antony as much anyone else for pulling this one off.

haitch, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 00:22 (eighteen years ago)

woah! that's great news!

micarl, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 01:35 (eighteen years ago)

awesome

antony as disco / house vocalist makes total sense, this describes me to a T ---> even if you, like me, were always slightly put-off by his stark, withering and (joylessly) camp solo material, you’ll be forced to reappraise when that androgynous wail his re-cast in Andrew Butler and Tim Goldsworthy's unbelievable production

dmr, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 18:36 (eighteen years ago)

I actually really like 'The dull flame of desire' that he did with Bjork,

Looking forward to hearing this.

micarl, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 19:03 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, I'm super-duper excited for this. The 12" just gets better and better. Not sure how I didn't notice before that Antony actually does vocals on Roar.

matt2, Wednesday, 28 November 2007 19:21 (eighteen years ago)

That Holy Ghost song was the free iTunes store download last week.

Savannah Smiles, Thursday, 29 November 2007 13:52 (eighteen years ago)

the table is the table, Monday, 14 January 2008 22:10 (eighteen years ago)

I just heard Juan Maclean's "Happy House" on his RA podcast for the first time. I'm mighty excited.

matt2, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 14:44 (eighteen years ago)

all I want is for Happy House to leak so that I can listen to it to the exclusion of everything else in the world for like seven hours straight.

jamescobo, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

YASE.

The Macallan 18 Year, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

oh - that Blackjoy remix of Holy Ghost gets better every time I listen to it. Anything else by them that I need to search out?

jamescobo, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

i havent heard that!

http://www.discogs.com/release/792527

a little more on the deeeep side of things but still gets people moving.

gr8080, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:18 (eighteen years ago)

i was going to post that knuckles remix today. now i can't. fuck.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

okay, well it ain't showing up in hype machine, so i'ma do it anyway.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

tables i didnt know you blogged. link?

this track is so rad. so i havent read anything on it yet, but this is Anthony on vocals, right?

really want to hear the santiago version.

also, there's a new syclops track up on the DFA myspace today that sounds pretty good.

gr8080, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

grady, i am here: deepmovements.blogspot.com .

yeah, good on you for bringing up the santiago version-- i am sort of dying to hear it. as i was saying upthread, he's been getting a lot of action recently, and it seems to have come out of nowhere? i mean, i'd heard his shit before this summer, but it had never struck me, and now he has tons of new (and mostly good) remixes for big releases floating around, and is getting more hype.

the table is the table, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:39 (eighteen years ago)

ive been digging him for a while.

i've talked up his 15 minute re-edit of roxy music's "angel eyes" on other threads, and finally got to play it out a few times in the last few months to great effect.

his stuff is all over the place from harder electro-house stuff to cosmic, re-edit stuff.

his "we love ibiza" mix w/ riton is pretty great too.

gr8080, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 18:58 (eighteen years ago)

aside:

is it riton as in triton?

or is it riton as in right on?

carry on.

andrew m., Tuesday, 15 January 2008 19:05 (eighteen years ago)

I think it's REE-tawn

dmr, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 19:06 (eighteen years ago)

deej, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 20:49 (eighteen years ago)

gr80: why hsnt anyone else put that big tranny on a dance record until now?

deej, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 21:43 (eighteen years ago)

deej: lol

deej, Tuesday, 15 January 2008 21:45 (eighteen years ago)

i think i've listened to that frankie knuckles/ herc love affair/ anthony track like 30 times since this morning.

two months is too long to wait for vinyl.

gr8080, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 02:53 (eighteen years ago)

deej, Wednesday, 16 January 2008 05:13 (eighteen years ago)

GOOD GOD! Blind (the club mix, which is all I've heard thus far) is just, wow. . .

Oh and thanks to JD Twitch's quite excellent RA Podcast for enlightening me to this fact

mehlt, Thursday, 24 January 2008 03:30 (eighteen years ago)

the original Blind is imo 10x better. i listened to that 30 times yesterday

do i want to listen to antony?

jaxon, Thursday, 24 January 2008 03:57 (eighteen years ago)

Antony's always been good with decent/great backing/beats - see "A little bit of time" http://www.discogs.com/release/323632 which is fantastic. But still have no desire to listen to "I am a bird now".

How different is Blind from the club mix?

Jedmond, Thursday, 24 January 2008 04:19 (eighteen years ago)

kinda surprised you prefer the original ... i much prefer the bigger, smoother sound of the remix, his voice just seems more powerful that way. The original is kinda weird & arty but also sounds too narrow or something

deej, Thursday, 24 January 2008 05:24 (eighteen years ago)

maybe i just need bigger drums

deej, Thursday, 24 January 2008 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

Still Going is pretty wonderful too. Curse all this time I have ignored DFA!

mehlt, Thursday, 24 January 2008 06:07 (eighteen years ago)

wow. i've only ever heard one brooks song years ago, and i always thought it was sung by a seriously gay man, and totally loved it, but had no idea it was by antony.

jaxon, Thursday, 24 January 2008 06:16 (eighteen years ago)

i first saw him on tour w/ lou reed in 03.

he was singing the nico parts.

Anyone know if there's any more on the way from Holy Ghost? They've got another track on their MySpace - if it's indicative of a looming album (or even just another single) I will be Very Much Of The Happy. (I am stupidly angry at myself for being unable to go see them DJ at the Mountain Bar last Thursday - stupid job requiring me to be coherent at 6 AM.)

also those Syclops tracks are dope^very, "Where's Jason's K" moreso than the other one.
