I am greatly enjoying the new Cantoma album that came out last week

Oh yeah, this is really nice. Love how the first three cuts flow together seamlessly (to the point where I'm wondering why Phil didn't just segue Alive and Just Landed?) and the closing track, "Claudio's Theme" is just gorgeous, like Guthrie meets Gigi.

Out Friday on International Feel, a promising collaboration of Wolf Müller and Cass. "Aiolos" sounds like THE track.

just wish you got an mp3 download with the vinyl

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 7 June 2016 08:16 (ten years ago)

on the hatchback dream chimney mix, i honestly recommend just downloading all of the hatchback mixes: https://soundcloud.com/hatchback

always brilliant.

japanese mage (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 7 June 2016 09:24 (ten years ago)

I'm hoping he someday releases a third album as Zeus & Apollo still gets a regular airing.

groovypanda, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 11:45 (ten years ago)

I love that album so much.

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 7 June 2016 12:00 (ten years ago)

the "above the clouds" track on this 12 is pretty sweet, ordered it a few days ago and find myself hooked on listening to the sample:

New release on Growing Bin from Bartosz Kruczyński (half of Ptaki):

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1lIVnvKIBk

Five tracks apparently but they're sequenced in a single continuous mix. Sounding quite wonderful on this late spring morning.

doug watson, Friday, 10 June 2016 14:18 (ten years ago)

that track about 14 minutes in is epic.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Friday, 10 June 2016 14:52 (ten years ago)

Would Radiohead - The Numbers be considered as balearic revival? It sounds pretty influenced by it to my ears.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Friday, 10 June 2016 15:39 (ten years ago)

huh, re: baltic beat, i really like this mix by Ptaki also called "baltic beat": https://soundcloud.com/ptaki/ptaki-baltic-beat

brimstead, Friday, 10 June 2016 20:35 (ten years ago)

xp @ Moka anything can be balearic if it has the ~~vibes~~

The new Mark barrott arrived in the mail yesterday but I won't be able to listen until after the 4th.

i think the best and most balearic thing ive heard all year is the mix that youtube made based on efeel's 'dawn breaks over a quiet harbor' which introduced me to letta mdulu's 'down by the river'

Check this out too if you haven't heard it:

that's a great LP.

the new cantoma album is now on spotify. nothing earth-shatteringly new but it is a nice record:

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 4 July 2016 12:10 (nine years ago)

yeah, the cantoma album is pretty good.

'nomalizo' is one of my all time favs.

karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Monday, 4 July 2016 15:32 (nine years ago)

makes sense u bros were already up on mdulu. really into her. another youtube find: sonya spence 'let the love flow on' (via youtube mix for pavement's 'shady lane' lol)

( ^_^) (Lamp), Monday, 4 July 2016 21:21 (nine years ago)

yeah that is a beautiful record

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 4 July 2016 21:22 (nine years ago)

weirdly i've heard both of those for the first time in the last year through totally different routes to you, the mbulu was in a mix by some guy with 100 followers or so i found on soundcloud, and the sonya spence is in one of the old sorcerer mixes (all worth downloading).

it's quite poppy and he plays the odd shit tune but that might be the actual reason i've been enjoying kenneth bager from music for dreams doing his radio show from ibiza: https://soundcloud.com/music-for-dreams/kenneth-bager-music-for-75

his between-song chat is almost exactly the same and kind of cute/hilarious, he has a lot of monotone catchphrases, but mostly the music just makes me want to be high and dancing barefoot. good place to hear new things too.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 09:24 (nine years ago)

this week's that i just posted is particularly shit in the middle tbh - some awful uptempo stuff. but maybe wade through and find what you can find.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 09:53 (nine years ago)

I know my only contribution to this thread is the odd link... so here's another one!

ghosts that don't exist (Neil S), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 13:26 (nine years ago)

letta mbulu has a long and varied career. some of her early records are slick south african soul and are pretty good.... there are some later ones that seem a little too schlocky to me at first listen.

the youtube playlist algorithms have been getting pretty good, haven't they? sometimes they fail bigtime (mostly by being too predictable), but other times they turn up all kinds of pleasant surprises.

wizzz! (amateurist), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 14:03 (nine years ago)

that list looks great neil, thanks.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 14:36 (nine years ago)

I'm actually going to a music festival in Bilbao tomorrow, and this list is definitely getting me in the mood

ghosts that don't exist (Neil S), Tuesday, 5 July 2016 15:15 (nine years ago)

not really feeling the vocals on that Cantoma album.

The new Tusk Wax 21 by Ali Renault is more house than balearic but definitely worth a listen. https://www.pbvinyl.com/products/ali-renault-tusk-wax-21

Sketches from an Island 2 is so good.

afriendlypioneer, Saturday, 9 July 2016 14:11 (nine years ago)

William Tyler maybe relevant to this thread?

just sayin, Monday, 11 July 2016 00:26 (nine years ago)

I'm really looking forward to the new Seahawks LP that's out at the end of the month. The remix album that came out last year is a hidden gem.

afriendlypioneer, Monday, 11 July 2016 15:06 (nine years ago)

The remix album: https://bleep.com/release/62661-seahawks-deep-haul

afriendlypioneer, Monday, 11 July 2016 15:06 (nine years ago)

that william tyler is beautiful, thanks for that. reminds me a bit of the michael rother record, gone a little more country.

Bein' Sean Bean (LocalGarda), Monday, 11 July 2016 17:07 (nine years ago)

I'm not really getting a balearic vibe from this William Tyler album, but it is nice.

afriendlypioneer, Monday, 11 July 2016 18:53 (nine years ago)

ditto
