An attorney said Prince had agreed to an intervention for painkiller addiction the day before he died.

Prince’s death came less than a week after his plane made an emergency stop in Moline, Illinois, for medical treatment as he was returning from an Atlanta concert. The Associated Press and other media reported, based on anonymous sources, that Prince was found unconscious on the plane, and first responders gave him a shot of Narcan, an antidote used in suspected opioid overdoses.

from what i understand it's not hard to od on fentanyl - it kicks in REALLY fast & can seize up your respiratory system if you arent careful

we've had a spate of od's in Sac in the last year. (Diff set of circumstances, they were being sold as Norco to recreational users/addicts etc, it wasnt a doctor situ)

emt friend said though that if you are used to other types of painkillers & you switch to fentanyl it can be dangerous

i've been seeing a lot more ppl coming in for detox that have been using fentanyl --- it might be cheaper/more readily available than H or pills, but Prince wouldn't have really had a problem with either, i would think

well someone is clearly in a position to do deals for his music, so its odd that everything is still there on youtube.

so you don't understand why Prince was interested in supporting large music/entertainment companies with black ownership or leadership? nobody running a major corporate entity is "struggling," that's not the point.

i get it.

its just that jay-z has been 'running things' for quite a long time. more power to him, but he didnt just get into a position of power.

after finally watching that madonna tribute properly, i dont get the hatred for it. shes not the greatest singer, but it was undeniably heartfelt, which counts for a lot. there could have been worse artists to do it.

Oprah isn't exactly an underdog either! are we only supposed to root for labels and music companies if some cool 20-year-old who just released a great debut album is running it? because that's not going to happen. Prince was coming from the perspective of seeing black musicians making huge amounts of money for an industry run primarily by white people and wanting to see more black executives and owners. it's really not that complicated. xp

from what i can tell, tidal pays rights holders 0.007 cents per play. it looks like that's more than 5 times what apple pays, more than 6 times spotify's rate, and over 23 times what they make from youtube.

good to know. i should probably check what an artist would get/would have gotten from radio plays too to compare.

yeah i imagine radio royalty rates are much the same as they've always been but i'd be curious what the numbers look like

What's everyone's favorite Prince album from the 2000's onward? I think 3121 has aged incredibly well. Art Official Age is pretty excellent too.

A random stomach growl yesterday sounded a lot like a Camille vocal. For a second I thought I was getting a visitation.

in order, based on memory rather than hearing them recently - rainbow children, 3121, art official, musicology, MPLS sound, 20 ten, planet earth. never heard the NPGMC compilations, and didnt care much for the third eye girl projects. NEWS is a masterclass in why prince shouldnt make jazz albums.

while DJing on Sunday i was randomly playing Play In The Sunshine as it was outdoors and scorching hot. a guy came up and we chatted about Prince and turns out he had the symbol tat and saw him '21 times' on his London residency in 2007. i said i'd not really heard much that he'd done since the early 90s and straight off he recommended "3121 and The Rainbow Children". so that's what an ultra-hardcore fan thinks anyway.

xpost - i dont remember lotusflower that well which is why i only listed MPLS sound (basically 00s prince doing 80s prince), but it might be decent, not sure. i only remember crimson and clover. the war was just a 40 min long song. i dunno, i remember it being sort of band of gypsies/santana-psych-dreamy-jam sounding with prince in one of his lecturing modes on top (reminds me of something from the gold experience era). i wouldnt mind seeing what its like now.
