I dont expect much but im still excited that there's new music by one of my fave ever bands. I loved the second coming, they should let Ian do the lyrics though.

Ian let John do most of the lyrics and songwriting on Second Coming because he thought there'd be plenty of chance for him on other albums. And there was! His solo albums.

I'm kinda curious as to what this is going to sound like, whether it'll be an extension of Second Coming or self-titled album retread. I'll be very surprised if it sounds more like Golden Greats.

So, I'm guessing this is to be released to make number one next week?

Just heard it. It's a cross between "Something Burning" and something off of Second Coming.

Definitely not the chiming, Byrd-sy thing... was hoping for something more melancholy like "Mersey Paradise" but seemed alright. Definitely sounded like them.

Lyrically and musically, kind of had the "One Love" / "What the World is Waiting For" vibe. The riff was a little Beatle-y though I can't pinpoint exactly which song, but tone was heavier, and had more noodly guitar, like stuff off Second Coming.

I wouldn't put it among their best songs, but it probably would have been in the top half of Second Coming.

rather displeased with the lyrics, honestly... in their prime, they were able to straddle this delicate line between earnest positivity and sublimated contempt... but lyrically, this seems a little on the cheesy side.

I felt a mix of enjoyment and just plain relief it wasn't as terrible as it could have been. The lyrics are terrible, the riff's pretty good. I do have expectations for the album now.

Yeah, Ian totally dropped the ball here, not that anyone was expecting some Bob Dylan shit, but still...

New Radiohead, Stone Roses and Super Furry Animals within a week... sorely tempted to check my calendar to see what year this is.

Pretty decent single tho its not Love Spreads level good. Its at least not a retread of the 1st album which is what I was dreading.

Also, weirdly, it's probably the best Ian Brown's ever sounded. Shame the song sounds like mid-table mid-'90s Britpop.

Thanks, I’ve listened to these b-sides and yeah they’re ok.
I still like this album a lot and listen to it every now and then. There isn’t a track I don’t like actually. Maybe « Tears » with the guitar solos which are a bridge too far past the Led Zep line. « Love Spreads » and « Breaking into heaven » are monsters !

I dunno... seems like he gets singled out for praise in just about everything I've ever read about this band over the years.

I seem to recall all of three of the musicians getting praised as musicians in a way a lot of their peers didn't really get praised.

In indie circles but they don't have the name recognition among the public (or record sales) that the likes of Oasis have.

For sure, but no one praised, for example, Oasis's rhythm section.

I was talking as musicians. As in, guitar hero John Squire, a phrase I probably heard before I heard the band.

When the first album came out John Squire definitely had a reputation among NME readers
