GÖTT DAT SCHING (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 16 April 2009 09:32 (seventeen years ago)

AIDS Wolf is a good example. I was bored with "Aren't we daringly un-PC" names and/or packaging by the early nineties.

Soukesian, Thursday, 16 April 2009 10:27 (seventeen years ago)

Does It Offend You, Yeah?

Yeah sorry these guys could be the second coming of whatever and I wouldnt bother with a name that shite.

Any act whose artist name starts with "MC" (capital letters - "Mc" is OK)

Browning's great, as is that poem specifically, but using it as a band name? Brrr.

Abbe Black Tentacle (GamalielRatsey), Thursday, 16 April 2009 13:24 (seventeen years ago)

Why?

Tourtiere (Owen Pallett), Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:14 (seventeen years ago)

I actually don't mind AIDS Wolf, cuz it seems kind of goofy and harmless

also: Wavves or Wavvves or whatever the fuck it is. every time I see it written my brain turns off my and my fingers instinctively ctrl-W.

I'm the head soul brother in the US. Where to now? (bernard snowy), Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:17 (seventeen years ago)

If this doesn't prompt a Marcello comeback it'll have to be that woman off Britain's Got Talent.

Fuck Buttons

"Look at me, mom! Look at me! You're not looking!"

Vast Halo, Thursday, 16 April 2009 20:38 (seventeen years ago)

I kind of like "Fuck Buttons." It sounds like it should be a spoonerism of something harmless, and you despoonerize it and it turns into "Butt Fuckins."

staggerlee, Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:00 (seventeen years ago)

no it's Buck Futtons, 50s Hamptons comic.

hope this helps (Granny Dainger), Thursday, 16 April 2009 23:03 (seventeen years ago)

Fuck Buttons and Holy Fuck are both good but would be more likeable with less earnest names. The Slugfuckers and The Fuck Fucks are not necessarily good but the names are amusing. Fucked Up are lame and the name is terrible.

Bostin' Legal (sic), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

!!!

What a willfully irritating name.

chap, Friday, 17 April 2009 12:32 (seventeen years ago)

Great name, good band!

Bostin' Legal (sic), Friday, 17 April 2009 12:34 (seventeen years ago)

tylerw, Friday, 17 April 2009 20:01 (seventeen years ago)

just saw a show listing for something called 'The Rape featuring Cubbiebear'

o_O

some dude, Friday, 17 April 2009 20:05 (seventeen years ago)

Context counts for a lot. I wouldn't normally cross the street to see a band called The Diarrhea of Anne Frank, but I was willing to give them a shot since they were opening for the Jesus Lizard.

Five words:
Does it offend you, yeah?

The Sunburned Hand of Manfredd Man (Rombald), Friday, 17 April 2009 20:49 (seventeen years ago)

I should also add that Fucked Up were awesome when I saw them live.... record kinda failed to capture the visceral experience of a huge man throwing himself at you to some tunes that could have been The Dicks in their heyday.

The Sunburned Hand of Manfredd Man (Rombald), Friday, 17 April 2009 20:51 (seventeen years ago)

I really hope there is a messageboard for real ale enthusiasts w/ a thread about beers they were put off drinking because of the stupid name

Snowballing, Sunday, 19 April 2009 10:50 (seventeen years ago)

On that note "Spock's Beard" is pretty intensely awful.

Vincent and Julio Gallo (Oilyrags), Sunday, 19 April 2009 13:30 (seventeen years ago)

Van Dyke Parks would be an awful name for a band but it's an OK name for a person.

All the ones at the top of the charts on last.fm. I refuse to give them one dollar of my money!

Kevin Yates, Phys. Ed. (u s steel), Sunday, 19 April 2009 20:06 (seventeen years ago)

A Tribe Called Quest used to bug me (as a name). But their first couple of albums are damn great, so I got over it.
