they have, consciously i guess, dropped off a lot of their standard tropes and instead applied what sounds like an incredible amount of attention to detail over strong material.

it's a healthy sign when a lot of these tracks sound like the ultimate configuration of them as a band. ful stop is what they were reaching for on Hail to the Thief but never quite pulled off. current obsession "tinker tailor..." where they've managed to cohere what they never quite managed on Amnesiac (plus it's some of the most chillingly beautiful yorkeian vox yet).

unfashionable as it is not to approach radiohead with levels of snark, theyve done exactly what they needed to and it feels rewarding to dip into. great job, gents.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 22:51 (ten years ago)

I just realized what "The Numbers" reminds me of: recent Motorpsycho!

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 8 May 2016 22:52 (ten years ago)

im glad radiohead still likes to get krauty, this is a v krauty record to me

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 22:59 (ten years ago)

i repeat, the production on this record is pretty as fuck, it is the prettiest record theyve ever done.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:09 (ten years ago)

i agree it's v pretty and krauty. full stop reminded me of the most recent beak album + thom

dynamicinterface, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:12 (ten years ago)

Yeah I'm p taken by the production. As tunes, "Ful Stop" and "Identikit" probably stand out most so far.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:16 (ten years ago)

i'll say this, the treatment of the drums are different than anything theyve ever done. hard to put my finger on it, but it feels very relaxed (slow pace prolly), muted, not a lot of bangers in this regard.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:20 (ten years ago)

PERSONAL.-
Radiohead.-
Colin Greenwood – Bass
Jonny Greenwood – Guitar, Piano
Ed O’Brien – Guitar
Phil Selway – Drums
Thom Yorke – Vocals
PARTE TECNICA.-
Nigel Godrich – Producer
Stanley Donwood – Artwork
Walter Becker – Guest on Ful Stop

Is this the Walter Becker I'm thinking of???

afriendlypioneer, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:30 (ten years ago)

this is one of my favorite things theyve ever done. im a 'kid a' partisan. i have a kid amnesiac playlist thats my go-to radiohead stuff. this touches a completely different emotional center for me.

btw this true love waits is so much better than videotape.

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:31 (ten years ago)

xp

hahaha thats dope!

6 god none the richer (m bison), Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:32 (ten years ago)

listening for the first time right now, 'The Numbers' just started. Still processing that 'True Love Waits' is on here. Unreal. love this record so far, so much better than TKOL. melancholic, reflective, grown up in a way...hard to explain. it really is a leap forward. so glad to have them back.

flappy bird, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:34 (ten years ago)

How would they tell Becker apart from Yorke?

MatthewK, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:46 (ten years ago)

lol

dynamicinterface, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:50 (ten years ago)

Is it just my imagination or does "decks dark" get a little funky in the last minute?

calstars, Sunday, 8 May 2016 23:55 (ten years ago)

Tidal link, for anyone looking: tidal.com/album/60215409. Lossless, one might add.

dlp9001, Monday, 9 May 2016 00:01 (ten years ago)

"The Numbers" is some bongos and afro percussion away from a balearic edit. It's become probably my favorite one today.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 9 May 2016 00:11 (ten years ago)

Guy from Steely Dan is indeed in the record iirc

Sufjan Grafton, Monday, 9 May 2016 02:59 (ten years ago)

Haven't heard this and won't neither but it's shit

Daithi Bowsie (darraghmac), Monday, 9 May 2016 03:02 (ten years ago)

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Monday, 9 May 2016 03:14 (ten years ago)

So, I purchased the vinyl, but was not given a download link. Do I have to wait until June to hear it?!

― Austin, Sunday, May 8, 2016 11:11 AM (9 hours ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

Austin, did you get a download link? website seems to imply that you have to buy the fancyman vinyl/cd/Thom's cold in syringe package to get a download link.

Sufjan Grafton, Monday, 9 May 2016 03:15 (ten years ago)

i'm so happy they managed to make another record that sounds nothing like any of their other records

flappy bird, Monday, 9 May 2016 03:18 (ten years ago)

I did not receive a link, so yes, I've technically bought it twice.

**shrug**

It's a fantastic album that'll keep me entertained for a long time, so I really don't have take issue with it.

Austin, Monday, 9 May 2016 03:21 (ten years ago)

phil selway is a much better drummer than he used to be

I look forward to hearing from you shortly, (Karl Malone), Monday, 9 May 2016 03:34 (ten years ago)

Strings on The Numbers very Vannier. Lovely orchestrations on this. This sounds like J. Greenwood's baby all the way. And it's mixed beautifully. A+++ though I can't tell what the heck Thom Yorke is on about on any of the songs.

Acid Hose (Capitaine Jay Vee), Monday, 9 May 2016 03:48 (ten years ago)

Fiddling with the image on the order site for the deluxe-book-edition of the album I am pretty sure the two extra tracks mentioned are Spectre and something called Ill Wind.

MatthewK, Monday, 9 May 2016 03:49 (ten years ago)

I got a download link and I didn't purchase the deluxe version. I think if you bought the physical version you're entitled to the digital files.

✖✖✖ (Moka), Monday, 9 May 2016 06:22 (ten years ago)

The thing I love about the True Love Waits arrangement is all the violins in the background very gently tapping their bows against the strings.

Matt DC, Monday, 9 May 2016 08:03 (ten years ago)

No download with the standard CD, according to the official store:

https://amsp.wasteheadquarters.com/products/cd

Steve Reich In The Afternoon (Against The 80s), Monday, 9 May 2016 08:46 (ten years ago)

Spectre's disappeared off iTunes as a standalone single - I'm sure you used to be able to get it?

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 9 May 2016 09:28 (ten years ago)

ha..

* (This is) a piece of a Radiohead ½ inch master tape from an actual recording session.
The tape degrades over time and becomes unplayable. We thought rather than it ending up as landfill we would cut it up and make it useful as a part of the special edition. A new life for some obsolete technology...
Each loop contains about ¾ of a second of audio - which could be from any era in the band's recording past going back to Kid A. You may have silence, you may have coloured leader tape, you may have a chorus... It's a crapshoot.
We have copies. Don't worry.

Mark G, Monday, 9 May 2016 09:38 (ten years ago)

Not listened yet. I'd like the vinyl version.. Why can't I get a download before I get my record? I Don't want to buy it twice!

TARANTINO! (dog latin), Monday, 9 May 2016 09:44 (ten years ago)

finally radiohead release the dad-rock album we all knew they had in them

diana krallice (rushomancy), Monday, 9 May 2016 10:05 (ten years ago)

If you think this is dadrock, then... fuck knows. I mean it's not abrasive dissonant FUCK YOU techno noise to alienate and horrify, but dadrock is Travis, Bread, Coldplay. This is not that, at all, even slightly. Yes, it's kind of absolutely identifiable as Radiohead and sounds exactly as you'd expect a Radiohead record to sound right now given everything that's gone before, but I don't think they could have done anything else after 30 years together.

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 9 May 2016 10:34 (ten years ago)

It really ought to be "moon-shaped" though, right?

Hey Bob (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 9 May 2016 12:15 (ten years ago)

Nah, they're talking about a person named moon (Keith?) and how they influenced the game of billiards

6 god none the richer (m bison), Monday, 9 May 2016 12:24 (ten years ago)

lol
