ILM Ballot Polls for 2014 and beyond -- order, timing, "I would have voted if I'd known about it," etc

I can run something, I have the time and inclination.

I'm up for running the Can, Bjork or Hendrix poll in two weeks let me know.

i think Can is a brilliant idea, Bjork is too far down the list and some dude said he will do Hendrix and he is not MIA.

Ok if Zs doesnt mind I can start the voting thread May 9th. Unless someone else starts a poll before.

Have we really not done REM yet? I have misgivings about the universe.

REM was done a long time ago, actually as the predecessor to all these polls, but I think the setup was different enough that it never gets included in the master list.

As the REM pollmaster, I have several times endorsed a do-over owing to the very idiosyncratic nom system and improbable (if interesting) results. I'd be happy to re-do it - it's been seven years! - but also think it'd be appropriate to pass the torch. Go for it!

You were right though! Plus you've been on-deck for it since October 2013, and besides, you have a much more respectable CV as poll-runner. I say keep it; if you like, keep me in mind as an alternate or helper, should circumstances interfere or something.

I would love to re-run all the individual album polls, with new and improved POLL pun titles, as a warm-up, but I think I would get kicked off of ILX. Still, that was the one thing I think I did right about the poll - preceding it with several months of intense REM discussion, which I think got a lot of oddball songs back into rotation for people. Not a model that would work for every artist, and some folks would be screaming, but kinda cool.

I figure if you aren't checking this thread when it's regularly revived then you are kind of sacrificing your place in line as a poll runner, and whoever actually is paying attention gets first dibs

i really don't think we should start giving people's polls away to other people. i'd agree with sliding down the list to someone who's here and ready - that seems common-sensical. i'd even endorse moving the no-showers down a ways in the queue so we don't keep banging into them. everybody has seasons where they're not as active on ILX for whatever reason, life happens, but if someone's been waiting years to run poll X, it shouldn't just get tossed to someone else imho.

i hear you, shakey. but since it's impossible to know what states other people and their lives are in, then on the off chance that someone does still want to do theirs, i feel like robbing them of that is a bigger wrong than the rest of us not getting to vote in that poll at that particular time, y'know? especially when there are a million more down the queue that we can just bump up in the running. i just really would hate for it to become a precedent and then oh whoops my poll comes up in the same week that i'm moving or starting a new job or whatever the fuck.
