this thread is going to blow up tomorrow

Oh is Pfork finally making its insanely tardy Deftones about-face official?

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 8 April 2016 02:22 (ten years ago)

Why does it feel like this album is getting much more hype than their last one did? Is it just simply a timing thing due to people being nostalgic for NuMetal or are some publciation trying to make up for the fact that they ignored the last one?

MarkoP, Friday, 8 April 2016 02:30 (ten years ago)

idk the last one came out in November

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 02:48 (ten years ago)

is it getting more hype? besides getting pfork coverage i don't really see it

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 02:49 (ten years ago)

Yeah, I guess by "more hype" I mean coverage from Pitchfork and Stereogum. And the fact that there seems to be more posts about it on here than KNY did.

MarkoP, Friday, 8 April 2016 02:55 (ten years ago)

made by 3-5 ppl total

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 03:20 (ten years ago)

somehow better than the last two imo

Don't know if I can go this far but it's definitely really great. I get kind of a Siamese Dream buzz from "Xenon."

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 8 April 2016 17:07 (ten years ago)

yeah! it hits that kinda sp/failure axis

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:03 (ten years ago)

favorite song?

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:21 (ten years ago)

rubicon!

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:32 (ten years ago)

that ym least favorite

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:36 (ten years ago)

it sound like a song about the band. i don't like songs about bandmates

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:37 (ten years ago)

embrace the power of deftones, stephn. please play a chunky riff on this song for the crowd could go wild again.

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:40 (ten years ago)

it's one of their best choruses ever imo

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:44 (ten years ago)

the part that says take me in face the lies?

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:47 (ten years ago)

btw writhe clearly now chino's favorite word. also he like shapes.

sunlick databait extremer, Friday, 8 April 2016 18:48 (ten years ago)

shapes and colors are all i see

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:53 (ten years ago)

the part that says take me in face the lies?

and yes

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Friday, 8 April 2016 18:55 (ten years ago)

I think "Acid Hologram" is my favorite, such a great slow churning groove

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Friday, 8 April 2016 19:09 (ten years ago)

first reaction is that i badly want paramore to do a cover of "phantom bride."

Western® with Bacon Flavor, Saturday, 9 April 2016 01:27 (ten years ago)

yes to acid hologram. you are my deftones brother, simon. brad you are still fam, maybe a first cousin cause i'm not feeling rubicon as much as you are. you can still come over for xmas and shit, tho.

sunlick databait extremer, Sunday, 10 April 2016 00:39 (ten years ago)

why have paramore do a cover when deftones already did it? can't get any better.

sunlick databait extremer, Sunday, 10 April 2016 00:39 (ten years ago)

hello i like deftones a lot too

_kfb, Sunday, 10 April 2016 21:31 (ten years ago)

though i don't understand the hate for back to school, it's a good song

_kfb, Sunday, 10 April 2016 21:32 (ten years ago)

for what's basically a joke song they recorded under duress it's pretty great

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Sunday, 10 April 2016 21:52 (ten years ago)

also for whatever reason i couldn't get on with koi no yoken. this thread is making me wish i hadn't passed it on, feel like, you know, i might have been the problem.

_kfb, Monday, 11 April 2016 08:07 (ten years ago)

you were the problem, but you can now be the solution

sunlick databait extremer, Tuesday, 12 April 2016 11:42 (ten years ago)

7.8 in pitchfork...it's happening

sunlick databait extremer, Tuesday, 12 April 2016 11:42 (ten years ago)

COACHELLA HERE WE COME

sunlick databait extremer, Tuesday, 12 April 2016 11:42 (ten years ago)

yep, took a listen to KNY again on spotify and i have officially dropped the ball.

_kfb, Tuesday, 12 April 2016 13:01 (ten years ago)

The narrative laid out in that review is...disputable.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 12 April 2016 13:42 (ten years ago)

Also at least three major reviews have gone with the "beauty and brutality" theme. There's gotta be another way to describe what they do.

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Tuesday, 12 April 2016 13:43 (ten years ago)

Wow, Cohen is really just a staggeringly bad writer, isn't he?

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Tuesday, 12 April 2016 13:46 (ten years ago)

lol i just watched the "prayers/triangles" video and immediately wanted to hear "acid hologram" after it. ofc it's a very romantic association ("it's a real ALBUM man") but it's sort of nice that i can't imagine these songs isolated from each other

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Tuesday, 12 April 2016 14:54 (ten years ago)

it took about 15 listens but "Hearts/Wires" just clicked for me

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 17:31 (ten years ago)

i saw pictures of deftones on pitchfork this morning and one of them looks like guy fieri

Keks + Nuss (contenderizer), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 17:35 (ten years ago)

chino dyed his hair blonde

jeez what a good band

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Wednesday, 13 April 2016 17:57 (ten years ago)

wow, no one looks good in that video

i want to remember you all as you were

_kfb, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 17:58 (ten years ago)

i'm liking the new record a lot though

slam dunk, Wednesday, 13 April 2016 19:51 (ten years ago)

this is without a doubt one of the more confusing things i have seen today

_kfb, Thursday, 14 April 2016 10:06 (ten years ago)

First time hearing this band - "prayers" - thought this is some mid 90s alt rock I could get behind - then was surprised to see them classified as metal

calstars, Thursday, 14 April 2016 12:53 (ten years ago)

"Prayers" reminds of hum's album downward is heavenward

calstars, Thursday, 14 April 2016 12:54 (ten years ago)

Chino at least is on record citing Hum as a key influence

a serious and fascinating fartist (Simon H.), Thursday, 14 April 2016 14:25 (ten years ago)

this is far bettr than hum to my ears. also, don't want to wait another 3 yrs for the next one.

sunlick databait extremer, Sunday, 17 April 2016 12:02 (ten years ago)

three months pass...

does anyone have gore on vinyl? how is the sound quality? the digital version i have is brutally clipped and squashed. http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/108870 implies that the vinyl is much better but i know there's some weirdness with measuring dynamics from a vinyl rip.

_kfb, Wednesday, 20 July 2016 11:44 (nine years ago)

two years pass...

the Chelsea Wolfe+Chino side project I just learned existed has a new song and it's pretty good!
