lol amazing.

they want to fight bullying and ridiculing

they want to promote inclusiveness

and yet the essential purpose is to annoy specific people

just got an email about this: http://keepersrecordclub.com/ -- maybe not scammy but i still don't really get these things

Introducing Keepers Vinyl Record Club:

A monthly subscription record club for record enthusiasts where musicians act as curator, selecting a record they love and writing their own liner notes on the album's personal impact. A copy of the record and liners are sent to each subscriber, creating a shared experience between the musician and listener through the enjoyment of a record.

something seems kind of .... wrong .... about getting a FUGAZI record of all things from a record-of-the-month club. the first Fugazi i bought was a $10 CD and i was thrilled it was that cheap only to later discover it was because of their awesome DIYness which is one of the amazing things about that band.

this club is $30 per month.

AdamVania (Adam Bruneau), Friday, 18 March 2016 16:11 (ten years ago)

haha yeah ... but you get that guy's liner notes?

tylerw, Friday, 18 March 2016 16:15 (ten years ago)

jeez a new one of these is popping up every week now

nomar, Friday, 18 March 2016 16:16 (ten years ago)

with my luck one of the members of death cab for cutie would send me a fugazi record. or the other way around.

scott seward, Friday, 18 March 2016 16:16 (ten years ago)

a musician whose opinions and music you don't care about is used as the carrot to get you to buy a record you already have

nomar, Friday, 18 March 2016 16:19 (ten years ago)

tbf Steady Diet is an overlooked fugazi joint imo. but yeah, Dischord vinyl is still v cheap.

number one the media distorts everything anyways (stevie), Friday, 18 March 2016 20:07 (ten years ago)

The basic package starts at £3,000. You get up to 30 discs, your rest in vinyl album cover and label artwork (including your birth date and date of passing). You must supply the music or vocals you want, but they do state they are liable for any copyright infringements that you may incur.

Not a bad scheme, get the money now and the company will be looooong gone by the time anyone who signed up dies and their heirs try to claim

Toof Seteltha (Sufjan Grafton), Sunday, 20 March 2016 21:46 (ten years ago)

A recent court case actually concluded that it's in the public domain, and Warner's claim to have copyright on the lyrics was invalid.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 March 2016 08:56 (ten years ago)

I always thought it was hilarious that this most legally contentious of lyrics contained all of six words.

someone who just gets annoyed at bad tweets (stevie), Monday, 21 March 2016 10:55 (ten years ago)

And one of those is "every name in the world".

Mark G, Monday, 21 March 2016 12:14 (ten years ago)

In Finnish it has just three words, plus the name.

Tuomas, Monday, 21 March 2016 12:51 (ten years ago)

not records but this twitter thing advocating for vinyl products made me lol:

We’re taking a stand. The dishonest campaign against vinyl products stops now.

"Vinyl products are reliable, safe, and cost-effective. Don’t listen to the alarmists."

lute bro (brimstead), Monday, 21 March 2016 18:35 (ten years ago)

I can't hear the alarmists anyway, not with all these pops and clicks and surface noise.

honestly just hearing the word "vinyl" is enough to make me roll my eyes these days

they're just 'records' to me

wizzz! (amateurist), Sunday, 10 April 2016 04:47 (ten years ago)

Vnyls.

Austin, Sunday, 10 April 2016 04:55 (ten years ago)

Eh, but I think of CDs and tapes and collections of digital files as "records" too. Which they are, records.

ALL THOSE PLUGS AND WIRES!!!

I still recommend finding a local dealer who sells used stuff and buying a 70s or early 80s Technics, amp and speakers for $200 or so. But what do I know.

I have recently discover loads of waterlogged old vinyls at my parent's old house--how can I get in touch with Urban Outfitters so I can share these treasures?

i know people who don't like changing the speed on those turntables where you have to take the platter off and move the drive band. that's laziness rather than fear though.

koogs, Wednesday, 4 May 2016 08:45 (ten years ago)

They should get one of the ones with an external band around the platter.

Arch Godliness of Purplefull Magic (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Wednesday, 4 May 2016 08:56 (ten years ago)

I find the whole rigmarole of putting on a record - making sure you don't scratch or smear the vinyl, trying not to jog the needle or break the arm/deck - mildly anxiety-inducing and so always opt for CDs - so much less stress.

I find the whole rigmarole of putting on a CD - making sure you don't leave fingerprints on the optical side, trying not to break the tray or look directly into the laser - mildly anxiety-inducing and so always opt for total silence - so much less stress.

I WANT to play my mp3s through my laptop speakers, but what if the screen suddenly closes down on my fingers?

Evan, Wednesday, 4 May 2016 13:41 (ten years ago)

TRNTBL also streams uncompressed audio to Sonos, AirPlay, and Bluetooth devices, brilliantly merging old-school record playing with modern technology.

I was wondering when someone would get around to converting analog recordings into digital. It's about time, really.

Montgomery Burns' Jazz (Tarfumes The Escape Goat), Wednesday, 4 May 2016 13:46 (ten years ago)

Agreed. The unveiling really should have been during a TED Talk.

Evan, Wednesday, 4 May 2016 13:53 (ten years ago)

But what if he stops talking and just stares ... ?

maybe there was just a special on pink hair dye that week?

koogs, Wednesday, 4 May 2016 16:28 (ten years ago)

Not shady necessarily, but I just got this spam from P0pMarket about some Fugazi offer. That's not Fugazi, that's Minor Threat.
