Merge press sheet intro: Today, the Mountain Goats have announced new full band shows this fall. Tickets will go on sale this Friday, April 29.
John:THE MOUNTAIN GOATS HAVE NOW BEEN A QUARTET FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR and it is so inspiring it is to find ourselves here: "never do things too fast" has always been my motto: write a lot, release a lot, but only change up your game when it feels right, always be moving forward but kick back strongly at anybody trying to grab hold of your shoulders and push you in any particular kinda direction. This philosophy is why we didn't go into a recording studio at all until we were good and ready, why we didn't have a full-time drummer until 2007, and it's why we knew, when Matt Douglas showed up on the scene, that we were headed into new terrain.
WE'RE WORKING ON NEW STUFF NOW. As is usually the case, I know more about it than I'm gonna tell you outright, because the best things gestate in the secret darkness and only emerge when the portents say it's time. But the best place to prepare for the spring festival is in the arena: in front of an audience, I mean, in clubs, on stages, in the actual thick of things. It's where the road ahead becomes clearest. It's where the indicators glow brightest. It's where we live.
EVERY SHOW ON THE BRINE CRYPT EXODUS TOUR SOLD OUT EXCEPT FOR THE ONE WHERE WE SOLD THE MOST TICKETS, which is totally hilarious, but I mention this by way of saying: we're touring in the fall. Full electric tour at full volume, all four of us. Tickets go on sale Friday, April 29. The smaller rooms will sell out quicker, the bigger ones may take a minute, fair warning as Van Halen said on the album that has "Unchained" on it, which they said the same year that Rufus released Camouflage, which you should go listen to right now because it's one of the best albums anywhere. As for us, we'll see you in the fall!

Recently (New Year's Eve) in Mountain Goats twitter feed, John D. said that although The Sunset Treewas strenuous to record, studios are "close quarters" anyway, and ...that record represented for me a breakthrough in my writing. wanting to be honest / forthright / clear / etc

"The Ultimate Jedi Who Kills All the Other Jedi and Eats Their Bones" is their best song since "Short Song For Justin Bieber's Paparazzi."

super appreciate that when ppl praise his work he says pleasant and modest things that do not include the word 'humbled'
― mookieproof, Thursday, 2 February 2017 00:46 (nine years ago)
..I think you are maybe thinking of someone else?
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 2 February 2017 06:59 (nine years ago)

I mean, being humble strikes me as a very JD thing, it's the self working on the self, unlike being #blessed. Can definitely see him getting up in the morning and doing 20 humble crunches, getting himself set up for the day.
― Andrew Farrell, Thursday, 2 February 2017 12:12 (nine years ago)
No I imagine he means that he's avoiding this new use of the word "humbled" when the person means, in fact, the opposite, which is a thing more
― blonde redheads have more fun (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Thursday, 2 February 2017 14:08 (nine years ago)
Hah, I did not know of that - okay then I think his uses are definitely keeping the retro-humbled flame alive :)

I'm at that in-between point where I saw the book at work, bought the book, am excited about the book's basic description, am recommending the book to coworkers and customers, but still need to start the book on my day off.
So maybe tomorrow. The dust jacket will show off great wear and aging like a pair of Canadian/Japanese collaboration blue jeans.

DJP has taken over the MG identity and it is nothing but plainsong chants.

Anyone reading his book?
― calstars, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 21:26 (nine years ago)
Just got a copy after going to the reading in Seattle. I'm honestly amazed by how good he is at audience q&a's, being able to answer cliched or awkwardly phrased questions in an interesting way that doesn't make the person asking feel stupid is a real gift.
― JoeStork, Wednesday, 22 February 2017 21:31 (nine years ago)
