The Pitch is still there, as a category under "Latest." Though maybe it is effectively dead, who knows.

btw it seems like the big innovation is the ability to turn off coverage of non-indie musics if you don't like them

Sadly, it doesn't remember my choice to clear out all genres other than rock. Also, just scanned quickly through all reviews and they don't seem to be offering soundcloud or spotify links to tracks anymore.

in news the two stories i hid by setting it to filter out rock were 'scharpling and wurster appear on the simpsons' (ok i guuuuuuuess) and 'majical cloudz play final show'

isn't it totally normal for websites that redesign to have a little summary of the redesign near the top? i expect that'll be up there all day

but there is important news about what someone said about someone else that should be at the top, especially if someone else said that something was wrong but someone else says that the someone is also wrong

the real scandal is that they decided to rip off CNN with their HTML title: "The Most Trusted Voice in Music"

this looks weird to me too but i'm sure pitchfork has tons of data about where people actually scroll and click that led them to altering the site in this way so \(o_O)/

i did sort of like that they were one of the sites with a background that was a different color than white

The "Best New Music" tag seems quiet now imo. I thought announcing that was their bread and butter, in the sense that's it's been their main taste-making validation tactic.

^ I think we can assume that album reviews aren't being read as much as they were judging from the overall redesign.

tbh i only really ever read the news from pitchfork and even with that i only get 3 headlines, have to scroll past a bunch of crap i don't want to see. that's not to say that their previous design with that tiny scrolling newsbox was much better, i just liked having it all in one place

also they left their sourcemaps on</nerdlolz>

man, look at this thread of esteemed media professionals giving "YOU DUN GOOFED" opinions about a website redesign, did I fall asleep and wake up at #SXSWi?!?!

I liked about the previous site that you could hover over an album cover on the main page's reviews and then get a brief summary of what the album/artist was in addition to the review's "thesis" or whatever you'd call it. I am probably not more likely to open review links now that that feature is gone. Agree too that the news with all the images is more cumbersome than before.

Well, they overrated the Anderson .Paak album, but I'm not ready to leap to conclusions.

They got rid of the option to look at 8+ rated albums

I like that the redesign gives a little more emphasis to the other four non-banner albums that get reviewed every day.

gradually the internet is turning into series of blocky article summaries arranged into grids. i feel like i'm using Finder and it's set to display everything as giant Icons and it can't be changed

if it were up to me, entire websites would be replaced by a single search bar, dubbed "the tagfinder", and you'd just have to search for what you want, google style, except that all the tags would be somewhat arbitrary and silly, Awl-style. forgot the name of the website? you just type in "name of website" and maybe it'll come up in the search results, maybe it won't. enough hand holding!
