like the last 10 minutes are so serious and dramatic and HUUUUUUGE w/ sweeping soaring vocals and synths and then this tinny muffled little *ding*, there is so much bathos and it is so charming

it's great yeah. 'Your lunch is ready'. And then that whole instrumental bit that follows is taking the bowl out of the microwave with oven gloves and setting it down on a tray.

seems like it's not going to be another pop album like Ten Love Songs unfortunately but the single's quite nice

I'm not super into her work prior to the last album, and this is reminiscent of all that, but I think the composition is better? Or more to my liking, at least.

Differentiating between 'pop Susanne' and 'non-pop Susanne' is kind of meaningless to me cause she's serving the same amazing melodies either way.

Reading an interview about this in a Norwegian newspaper:

Undercover is "inspired by Dolly Parton", and she goes on to say "country and folk music are genres I always come back to". Album inspired by her recent journeys and the political reality of the world today, apparently.

I get the Adele complaint, but c'mon, that pedal steel.

it's not like this side of her is unprecedented or anything, though I'd definitely prefer it if it had a dance beat

I don't care for The Sound of War (the other new song she was playing live) or Reincarnation at all so I'm just thankful that there's something to like about Undercover

Seems a little early to make that prediction. New album is the same length as the last one, has an intriguing title and opens with a song called "Mantra." I don't think she's lost her ambition.

This track is heavenly. Could easily see it as an outlier on a Ten Love Songs-esque suite, but I'd just as happily take an entire LP of ballads this beautifully composed and personable

She started out doing piano ballads - only, her piano ballads are as different from other piano ballads as her pop songs are.

i love this even though the songs like it are the ones i skip on ten love songs. she rules, this rules, so does ten love songs, so does the silicone veil, so does that royksopp song

As someone who thinks that "Darlings" is secretly the best song on Ten Love Songs, probably not a surprise that I love this. 70s MOR was an important part of that album too - surely that's where 50% of the Abba comparison comes from?
