It seems like most hip-hop is a bit like this now, the guys in those cars were ahead of their time.

:-! Dude, I'm into post-auditory vibrations. Sounds are so bourgeoisie.

Given their tendency to be influenced by a lot of ILM touchstones, it's quite obvious that this is what the next album by The 1975 will sound like.

This sound has been quite popular in Helsinki underground rap for years now. Dunno whether it was inspired by whatever the original post was describing, though I think the original inspiration was chopped & screwed style Southern rap + horrorcore.

Everything on this playlist postdates the question in this thread by several years, but if you ignore that small detail, it seems pretty close to the vibe described.

What kind of music is the hip-hopish stuff the showtime kids in the subway dance to? I feel like I asked this once in another thread but didn't get a clear answer and now I can't find it.

― Fuck the NRA (ulysses), Saturday, 31 August 2019 14:46 (six years ago)
It's called "scream rap". Other than not existing at the time when this question was posed, it is definitely what was being described.
― glenn mcdonald, Saturday, 31 August 2019 16:10 (six years ago)
heh, i kinda meant that you might've built a "burbbhrbhbbhbburbbb" category and i am just a LITTLE disappointed you haven't.... yet.

I've spent a fair amount of time trying to figure out what the original grim reapah thing was, with no luck. This new stuff sounds totally like some people had been trying to find it, too, and finally got fed up and said "if we can't find it, let's MAKE it".
