It's definitely enjoyable but I personally wouldn't put Streetcleaner anywhere near the top - dystopian and sludgy, very repetitive, but I kinda see it as an extension to Swans and Killing Joke, and not so much an extreme metal classic.

hoped that might beat out metallica and slayer to #1

I remember reading about Bergtatt first in a review that completely panned it as a boring Burzum-ripoff, all recycled riffs, a sure sign that the Norwegian scene had totally lost it if bands like this were coming up, etc.

i agree but i'll take what i can get in the land of liturgy and deafheaven. still one of my favorite albums.

i'm on the dodgems at mega therion. it's kinda cool. there's a mean kid bumping everyone too hard

there are three 8 minute songs on master of puppets. it was remarkable at the time.

Obviously ILM is all about embracing their inner racist, with James Hetfields redneck antics, Jeff Hannemans fascination for Nazi doctors, Vargs silly RPG, Darkthrones "obvious Jewish behaviour" and Mayhems "black metal is for white people", etc.

i think this record is pretty overrated but when i'm in the mood i enjoy it a lot

tt and I were discussing how Extreme would make a great joke winner haha

agree w BradNelson (I voted for a different Mayhem), and am happy to see this (presumably) not take the black metal prize

after hearing ppl scream their name for 30 years im resigned to who which thrash act will beat out the death and black metal

In theory De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas is overrated but its influence has been so huge - I mean hundreds of bands must've walked into the studio with this record in hand: "like this, please".

I prefer Deathcrush, but De Mysteriis is definitely a huge influence on basically all Black Metal after it.

My thing w that record is that it doesn't sound very much like the stuff that Mayhem had put out up to then (including boots, live and rehearsals that I liked). It was almost like they had to play catch-up with that record, even tho they were actually the first band of the 2nd wave to do anything, and the whole scene seemed to revolve around them
