where's Drew Daniel in this poll?
Anyway, since no one is commenting, I'll say that I didn't vote for this Black Metal, and I guess against popular opinion, I think it's way less evil sounding than Welcome to Hell. I think WtH was actually a demo they ended up releasing as an album, and you can tell Black Metal sounds a lot more polished, but that kind of takes away the "magic" for me.
― Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 22:44 (ten years ago)
drew never votes or comments on poll threads, same with smithy
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)
drew being punished for crimes against black metal* by being locked in a room with a washing machine for two years iirc
*why do the heathen rage obv amazing

Province of Quebec doing well so far. Nothingface was my #1 and both of those Gorguts albums were on my ballot.

you dont like venom?
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:01 (ten years ago)
these are all good today. there is no bad gorguts. every album is great. nothing against them, but i never ever listen to venom. fun though. bathory i could listen to all day.
― scott seward, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:02 (ten years ago)
xxp Heartwork is an album you could've called a sellout at the time but it's really just some caterpillar into steel-edged British heavy metal butterfly shit.
I guess against popular opinion, I think it's way less evil sounding than Welcome to Hell
I absolutely agree with this. Black Metal's good but WtH is alarming and fucked up and stupid-brilliant.

Not as good as Remission obviously but pretty great
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:14 (ten years ago)
I love how you're all stunned into silence
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:17 (ten years ago)
never heard the record before. Listening now, and the first song is pretty cool, lot of energy. It almost has a High On Fire thing about it, where I wouldn't be able to attach a genre to it (tho the vibe is nowhere near as dark). Snare tone pretty annoying tho. Avant nu-metal?
― Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:26 (ten years ago)
they toned down the sludge so a bit more proggy. certainly not nu metal. Less of a today is the day (a couple of them were in TITD) vibe to it. Great album tho. saw them the week it came out in the tiny glasgow cathouse they played mostly remission stuff plus some from this and a melvins cover.6 months later they won kerrang album of the year and toured again playing the garage. they still played tons from Remission and more from this. Brilliant gigs
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:31 (ten years ago)
No, but I'm open to the possibility that they'll click some day.

I'm not sure I've ever heard Leviathan! I have Remission and Blood Mountain and apparently voted for the latter.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:35 (ten years ago)
i didn't vote in this poll since i don't listen to that much metal but these last 3 are 3 of my favorites so apparently i am aligned with the collective
― ciderpress, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:37 (ten years ago)
Oh cool, wasn't sure if this would make it. Definitely my favourite Agalloch.
― Gavin, Leeds, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:38 (ten years ago)
Mastodon is an extreme metal band? I just thought they were kinda proggy.
― Οὖτις, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:38 (ten years ago)
they certainly drifted that way after this record
― ciderpress, Monday, 22 February 2016 23:40 (ten years ago)
Everything upto and inc Remission was extreme metal
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:41 (ten years ago)
tho Leviathan is still extreme
Ashes Against The Grain is an amazing album
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 23:42 (ten years ago)
next one has 664 points but I dont know what #10 is as I only had 20-11 so this is the last one for tonight so we will need to wait until tomorrow for frobisher to tell us if there is a 666.

― Tom Violence, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)
is that a Kristian Wahlin cover?
― Dominique, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:08 (ten years ago)
decks cleared for a shitty thrashtastic top ten, but what a run today
― odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:11 (ten years ago)
yeah pretty much all of the big thrash albums havent placed yet but theres still 2 or 3 black metal classics to come I reckon
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:12 (ten years ago)
and sepultura - chaos ad. how do we classify that?
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:13 (ten years ago)
cowboys from hell is the fan fave Pantera album isnt it?
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:14 (ten years ago)
given up on bergtatt, streetcleaner's gonna show tho
― odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:14 (ten years ago)
i hope so but the fact none of the other Godflesh has turned up but multiple albums by lesser bands have suggests no Streetcleaner. Cant really see Anthrax placing top 10 but of djp and jjj voted it could
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:15 (ten years ago)
Of course. Dark Funeral just posted a shot of him doing the art for their next album. And in breaking news, Dark Funeral still exists.
― Devilock, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:15 (ten years ago)
Nightside was my #3, after Mental Funeral and The Inalienable Dreamless. It's also the very first black or death metal album I recall having heard. Still completely amazing.
― jmm, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:16 (ten years ago)
I don't think Pantera or Chaos AD will show but that's only because they weren't on the noms list and write-ins never seem to place highly on polls. I could be way off though.
― Gavin, Leeds, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:18 (ten years ago)
Do many ilxors rate Pantera?
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:21 (ten years ago)
Heartwork is an album you could've called a sellout at the time but it's really just some caterpillar into steel-edged British heavy metal butterfly shit.
yeah I remember reading the fucking anus.com review that bitched about its 'populist touches' and said exactly that. I got razzed on USEnet for loving it so much (it was my first Carcass).
Symphonies is my fav but Heartwork is up there. really a fan of everything but Swansong (which tbf I haven't even hard in its entirety).
― you are no man. take the balls. (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:24 (ten years ago)
Darkthrone vs Mayhem vs Burzum for the black metal crown, like it's 1993 all over again.
― Dominique, Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:25 (ten years ago)
Darkthrone probably win for longevity and consistency but my heart always wants to scream Mayhem.
― you are no man. take the balls. (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:28 (ten years ago)
2x slayer 2x metallica 1x celtic frost 1x atheist (pls) 1x godflesh 1x mayhem 1x burzum 1x idk yeah darkthrone prob
― odysseus (imago), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:28 (ten years ago)
I will trade an Incantation for an Atheist.

Onward to Golgotha woulda placed if Chachi would vote
― you are no man. take the balls. (Neanderthal), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:31 (ten years ago)
and slayer vs metallica (and possibly anthrax & megadeth) im thinking if anything of theirs is gonna place in this poll it will be the early stuff. Rust In Peace placing suggests something else might. The lo turnout has meant funny placings.
We havent even had an album with voters in double figures yet so the best known albums are bound to win?
xpsurely at the gates will place?
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Tuesday, 23 February 2016 00:31 (ten years ago)
lj I hate to break it to you but there's THREE Metallica albums that are still to place
