does Alex Wank off Pungent Stench drive trams in Vienna?

Apparently he owns this music/occult shop: https://www.facebook.com/totem.records/

And as of 2010 at least was making this bad music: https://myspace.com/thetempter777

Devilock, Monday, 22 February 2016 18:41 (ten years ago)

Right, I'm off pitching this book: 'Former extreme metal band members called Alex: where are they now?'

Poacher (Chinaski), Monday, 22 February 2016 18:42 (ten years ago)

Anyone seen frobisher?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 19:16 (ten years ago)

Frobisher is ill. He sent me a PM on facebook and gave me 20-11 results to post tonight for him and he thinks he will be better tomorrow to do the top 10. send him your good vibes and hopefully he will be ok

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:13 (ten years ago)

my #2

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:29 (ten years ago)

Partially my fault, as I think I reversed the ranking of this and Blood Fire Death on my ballot

Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 20:31 (ten years ago)

*Shakes Fist*

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:32 (ten years ago)

I remember reading a review of that in some magazine - Creem Metal, maybe? - that was so disparaging that I immediately went out and bought it on cassette. I've never regretted it. Whole album's great but "Equimanthorn" is all-time classic.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:33 (ten years ago)

This was in the distant past, so long ago that black metal was still just a Venom album to me.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:34 (ten years ago)

Because Imago doesnt like these old metal albums they arent quite getting enough points so if something crap does win do we agree just to blame him?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:37 (ten years ago)

Absolutely. Imago please post a recent pic so I can have an effigy ready

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:54 (ten years ago)

chill guys i'm going to listen to these and like them maybe

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:57 (ten years ago)

I voted for this too. I remember in about 1991 just after i got into nirvana/grunge a mate loaning me this, a slayer and the 1st metallica lp. This was the one i liked the most.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:57 (ten years ago)

it just sounded so much more advanced and going somewhere

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 20:58 (ten years ago)

I was born in 1987, under the sign of the black mark

That is me, wishing I'd made Gorguts my #2 rather than my #22. Also, that photo is taken inside 'the witch's coven' at Highgate...

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:13 (ten years ago)

But yeah, listened to the Gorguts yesterday/today in preparation for this and hell. I straight up forgot just how amazing it is

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:14 (ten years ago)

Shoppping list: scarf, brown wig. Done!

Yeah, love Obscura. It's one of those records that was/is almost a genre unto itself.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:17 (ten years ago)

+ two pairs of binoculars

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:18 (ten years ago)

tech-death isn't really my thing, but agreed on Obscura (along with earlier Demilich entry, which surely must have been an influence for these guys) as thing-unto-itself. I guess I should check out the other Gorguts records?

Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:19 (ten years ago)

yeah tt asked me what genre the song Clouded was when I played it to her this morning as she prepared for work (best way to start the day!) and I said I genuinely thought it was in a genre of its own

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:21 (ten years ago)

btw I'm really enjoying the Bathory! especially the big track, enter the eternal fire. that was well good.

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)

xxxp binoculars are expensive dude!

Dom, definitely check out The Erosion of Sanity - it's the beginning of Gorguts going batshit. Maybe a coincidence but the song "Condemned to Obscurity" feels like the beginning of the thread that got more and more progressively tangled and became Obscura. From Wisdom to Hate is good, but it feels like they made Obscura and were like "whoa, what the fuck was that?!" and backed off a bit.

"Considered Dead," their first one, is good but very straightforward Roadrunner death metal.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:23 (ten years ago)

and then they made colored sands which i find difficult to describe but is amazing

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:24 (ten years ago)

That's an ace picture. What were you spotting in there? THE DEAD or migratory birds?

Poacher (Chinaski), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:25 (ten years ago)

sweet will check it

Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:25 (ten years ago)

Condemned To Obscurity is an amazing song, yeah!

At a junk shop I bought two pairs of binoculars for £25 recently, that's $40? What do you call junk shops over there, thrift stores?

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:25 (ten years ago)

(I was ostensibly spotting English winter birds but I think I glimpsed a malign spirit at one point, or maybe it was just a squirrel)

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:27 (ten years ago)

If I'd voted in this, Obscura would've been my #1.

chihuahuau, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:30 (ten years ago)

(My cemetery of choice was always West Brompton. I saw a dirty great flock of siskins and bramblings in there a couple of winters ago. This isn't very metal. Maybe the Botanist might approve.)

I haven't listened to Left Hand Path in years. Clandestine was always my go to. Will dig it out.

Poacher (Chinaski), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:31 (ten years ago)

you should

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:34 (ten years ago)

LHP one of the first death metal albums I liked, but it was more about following the course of Nihilist, who I'd stumbled into first. Swedish death initially appealed to me a lot more than American death, simply for the fact it didn't seem as wanky. Nowadays, I think it's just because it was more indebted to Autopsy, but still, this is a great album, if not as good as the demos/band that preceded it.

Dominique, Monday, 22 February 2016 21:35 (ten years ago)

Bramblings!! I've never identified one successfully. There were some chaffinches in those Highgate woods but that's as exciting as it got. I saw my first siskin last winter in Watford's own Cassiobury Park, though, which is pretty metal of me

This Bathory album was *excellent*. Really really great. Maybe the best thrash record ever? ;)

odysseus (imago), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:35 (ten years ago)

black thrash death, like celtic frost/hellhammer it all started there

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Monday, 22 February 2016 21:38 (ten years ago)

Voivod sounds like funk metal so far!
