2 more for tonight after this

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:26 (ten years ago)

Oh well there we go, then.

Devilock, Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:27 (ten years ago)

I somehow forgot to vote for Incantation. If they miss the list I will blame myself.

jmm, Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:27 (ten years ago)

Yay!

i assume a certain brazillian band

I hope it's Sarcofago!

I don't get this. Seasons was one of its own beasts and while it had sonic similarities to previous albums I don't think RIB was one of them.

Uh... really? I mean I was enthusiastic about Seasons when it came out but over the years it just kind of pales in comparison to Reign and SoH and sounds like reheated third-time leftovers.

Voivod are one of those ones where I hear how good they are, and they've influenced shitloads of music I love, but they do nothing for me. Will keep trying though.

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:33 (ten years ago)

I voted for sarcofago

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:34 (ten years ago)

Ultros, if you've never heard Nothingface, please try that one. If you have, nm.

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:36 (ten years ago)

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:37 (ten years ago)

I don't get Voivod either. And Neurosis are one of the dullest bands on Earth. I saw them live twice around the time of Through Silver in Blood - once opening for Pantera and Clutch, and once headlining over Eyehategod and Dead and Gone. Yyyyyaaaaawwwwwnnnnn.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:39 (ten years ago)

I hated Voivod for a long time until I got drunk and listened to Angel Rat of all things which somehow completed a circuit in my brain.

Neurosis however -- yeah I can't do them at all.

Devilock, Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:42 (ten years ago)

Uh... really? I mean I was enthusiastic about Seasons when it came out but over the years it just kind of pales in comparison to Reign and SoH and sounds like reheated third-time leftovers.

I don't mean to say like it's them reinventing themselves, more that I feel that RIB was a well they didn't really go back to.

Seasons had a 70s rock vibe to it on quite a few songs ("Blood Red", "Expendable Youth") that lent them a nice touch. Plus "Spirit in Black" is one of my favorite Slayer tunes and "Born of Fire" and "Hallowed Point" are favorites.

Seasons wasn't an immediate favorite of mine...took me ten years or so to reevaluate it.

gaz coombes? yo he don't got NUTHIN ta prove! (Neanderthal), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:48 (ten years ago)

I rather like Neurosis but I prefer Times of Grace so I hope that places.

Voivod I think have the potential to click with me at some point - I HAVE heard Nothingface (I think it's meant to be their weirdest?) but it hasn't stuck as yet

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:49 (ten years ago)

Last one for the evening to go out on and I'm assured by people its a great last thing at night album.... any guesses?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:49 (ten years ago)

Honestly, some of the faster, more aggressive material on Christ Illusion has more in common with Reign in Blood than anything on Seasons does.

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:51 (ten years ago)

xpost St. Anger

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:52 (ten years ago)

Alright, fine, Seasons sounds nothing like Reign In Blood, still bores the shit out of me. Is that acceptable?

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:56 (ten years ago)

TOO FUCKING LOW

odysseus (imago), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:57 (ten years ago)

On my ballot. Think I made it my #6. It should have been my #2. Think I penalised it for not being 'extreme' enough, which is ridiculous. It is on the edge of sense.

odysseus (imago), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:58 (ten years ago)

Guess it clears the way for wall-to-wall boredom in the top 20 tho

odysseus (imago), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:59 (ten years ago)

Xxxpost you can dislike whatever you want!

gaz coombes? yo he don't got NUTHIN ta prove! (Neanderthal), Sunday, 21 February 2016 00:59 (ten years ago)

you dont know that

xp

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:00 (ten years ago)

Aww yeeeeeah

gaz coombes? yo he don't got NUTHIN ta prove! (Neanderthal), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:00 (ten years ago)

Hopefully frobisher will be back tomorrow to finish the top 20.

Here's hoping for a 1-2-3 of Celtic Frost-Bathory-Death SS

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:01 (ten years ago)

Been listening to Dopethrone just now btw, it's awwwesome, my word!

Dopesmoker is the boring version, right? ;)

p.s. I'm not stoned

odysseus (imago), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:02 (ten years ago)

xxxxp thought that said wall to wall boredoms and I was like, hey, yeah, they belong here way more than your deafheavens and shit

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:03 (ten years ago)

I think at this time we also go for predictions and things you really want to make it but probably wont now.

im assuming
Death SS - The Story of Death SS 1977–1984
Corrupted - Corrupted - Se hace por los suenos asesinos
Worship - Last Tape/vinyl/cd Before Doomsday
Skepticism - Alloy
Godflesh - Selfless
Godflesh - Pure
Boris - Absolutego
Khanate - Khanate
Grief - Come To Grief
Mournful Congregation - The Monad of Creation
Sunn O))) - 3: Flight of the Behemoth
Warhorse - As Heaven Turns to Ash
Ludicra - The Tenant
Nachtmystium - Instinct:Decay

wont make it :(

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:08 (ten years ago)

I'd hoped to see Dark Funeral - The Secrets of the Black Arts place but I don't think that's happening.

Gavin, Leeds, Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:10 (ten years ago)

For me Dopethrone is one of the greatest albums ever made, period. That perfect cross section of psych and doom. Theiy nail everything in it. Their other albums are great too.

Glad to see Through Silver in Blood made top 25.

gman59, Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:10 (ten years ago)

Dopethrone is so so good, fuck. I had never heard it all the way through before!

odysseus (imago), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:12 (ten years ago)

props for including Ludicra CS. I voted for them. And I didn't hear it until recently, shamefully, so I didn't vote for it, but Obscura needs to place. Seriously.

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:12 (ten years ago)

im hoping maybe a couple from my list there might get in but im assuming the vote threshold will be double figure votes and i cant see any of those getting 10 votes as some big big albums have already placed

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:13 (ten years ago)

btw i think i voted for a couple of recentish albums after all- the last triptykon (tho low down). maybe that could place?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:14 (ten years ago)

lets hope frobishers internet and other stuff is sorted out by tomorrow

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:35 (ten years ago)

maybe ludicra will place then. Id be shocked if the gorguts didn't. thats a well loved album round here ultros

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:37 (ten years ago)

Rust In Peace is probably my all time favourite metal album but I'm ok with it not winning an extreme metal poll.

Siegbran, Sunday, 21 February 2016 01:44 (ten years ago)

Run since Invisible Thought Patterns is great. Even the stuff I don't particularly care for (Neurosis) seems credible & well-placed. Particularly happy to see Dimension Hatross. The kvetching about Seasons is bizarre though. It's not breaking tons of new ground relative to the prev two, but why should it have to? Great songs, tons of energy, crushing production.

somewhere btwn Gabriel Garcia Marquez and early Evel Knievel guy (contenderizer), Sunday, 21 February 2016 02:02 (ten years ago)

I get why Dopethrone will always be the world's favorite E-Wiz album. I just prefer the spacier, less aggressive sound of Fanatics.

somewhere btwn Gabriel Garcia Marquez and early Evel Knievel guy (contenderizer), Sunday, 21 February 2016 02:08 (ten years ago)

I'm with contenderizer on this one. Always preferred Fanatics (though it probably helps that the 2CD of that and the s/t was my entry point for the band).

the top man in the language department (誤訳侮辱), Sunday, 21 February 2016 02:13 (ten years ago)

Death SS - The Story of Death SS 1977–1984

I mean, how could it not?

somewhere btwn Gabriel Garcia Marquez and early Evel Knievel guy (contenderizer), Sunday, 21 February 2016 02:16 (ten years ago)

"Seasons is pretty much the sound of Slayer realizing they could just recycle Reign In Blood and South of Heaven forever, without much thought or effort."

i think it's their last great album and i love it and most bands will never make anything as good but yeah it's not as good as what came before.

scott seward, Sunday, 21 February 2016 02:19 (ten years ago)

getting genuinely scared now

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Sunday, 21 February 2016 07:35 (ten years ago)

in particular regarding a certain Irish band who destroyed everything in 2007

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Sunday, 21 February 2016 07:56 (ten years ago)

So I was the #1 vote for Funeral Moon, and I'll stand by that vote. It sounds like they just found this tape buried in a graveyard, at midnight, in winter, and this is what was on it.

Tom Violence, Sunday, 21 February 2016 12:16 (ten years ago)

U2 wont win

xp

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 12:18 (ten years ago)

A couple things I voted for that I no longer think will place: Nuclear Assault, Bongzilla, Carpathian Forest.

Tom Violence, Sunday, 21 February 2016 12:27 (ten years ago)

Cant rule anything out with such a low threshold but I think you may be right.

Also with the exception of Metallica, Pantera and Slayer I would imagine that it will be 1 album per band placing now

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Sunday, 21 February 2016 12:33 (ten years ago)

I would've been stunned if Carpathian Forest made this list and I LOVE Carpathian Forest.

gamelan ankylosing spondylitis (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Sunday, 21 February 2016 12:57 (ten years ago)

Ghost for the win.

Siegbran, Sunday, 21 February 2016 13:08 (ten years ago)
