I freely admit to having a lack of interest in UK doom (except for, you know, Sabbath). I've tried the most acclaimed albums of the unholy trinity and gotten nothing. I do like Cathedral, though, but then I also like Hammer Horror movies.

Anthems my #1. I don't feel like going on at length about it, though. It's just the best thing I've ever heard in the metal realm. It was my introduction to the whole second wave, and it took like a year for me to get over my obsession with it in order to buy any other albums from that whole movement.

(Nightside was my #3.)

Nightside was also my #3, but I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.

I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.

They're very different, and I can understand the argument that Nightside is the superior one; it's definitely more "pure" as far as black metal goes. And there are times when my nostalgia over my initial enchantment with Anthems thins out enough to make me wonder which of the two I actually prefer. On top of everything else, the production, mix, and mastering of Anthems are all weird hurdles. I don't even know if I can be objective about it, though. That album really was my key to unlocking a whole world of amazing music that I'd had no awareness of. All the Scandinavian stuff seemed so alien to whatever death or thrash had come before.

Metal really did get crazy in the mid 90s. It's hard to get more impactful than None So Vile.

Nice! I only voted for 10 albums and this was one of them. It's one of my favourites of this decade.

This was far down my ballot, surprised it made it at all by now.

Hmm wonder if we'll have any Discordance Axis.

Also Cryptopsy rules. Really like the production on their albums as an alternative to the super dry, boxy Morrisound style, it's like they heard Suffocation's "Human Waste" EP and were inspired by that.

In League With Satan is the TOO LOWest TOO LOW so far. Deserves top 5 placement at the very least, and probably much, much higher.

And while I love BM, I wouldn't have voted for Anthems. Nightside,sure, but not the Dusky Whelk. It bugs me. I hold it responsible for Deathspell Omega.

I love Nightside and I enjoyed the DSO I heard, now I really ought to hear Welkin.

Rust for years I called overrated but in recent years it has become my favorite Megadeth.

I don't even like Megadeth that much but Rust in Peace forced its way onto my ballot. Near the bottom, but still. I have to admit it's a thing of beauty.

Megadeths first four albums impeccable altho I ain't superstitious isn't great.

I love Rust in Peace unashamedly. And I still have my signed picture disc copy! (And a signed picture disc of No More Mr Nice Guy. The old Record Shop in Kingston. Those were the days.)

Botanist is great, that Cryptopsy album greater, everyone shut up, the vanity is of useless differences

Doom in Bloom is great. It deserves to come in somewhere around 834 on this list.
