I like Gojira a lot, was just listening to them yesterday actually, and then watched a pretty cool live vid of them performing in Spain in 2014. However they didn't make my list.

And yet they sell out large clubs and theaters and are a major festival draw! Crazy, right?

I had no idea. Good for them! Whoever they are.

Decibel mag always pretty big on Gojira.

scott seward, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:36 (ten years ago)

One of these days I want to just order some of those "full dynamic range" albums from Earache, see what they're all about. I know they did FETO. (And Nocturnus' Thresholds!)

Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:36 (ten years ago)

Great album. I remember playing it for my thrashy friends in high school and they were NOT into it.

i'm pretty sure most of the decibel writers/editors were younger than me other than john d. so i never really got their love for some stuff.

scott seward, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:41 (ten years ago)

scott seward, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:42 (ten years ago)

I was the one who voted it #1 in case anyone was wondering

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:44 (ten years ago)

hey i would've voted for anathema

HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:45 (ten years ago)

OK I'm finally gonna listen to Napalm Death after Garten der Unbewusstheit

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:46 (ten years ago)

I freely admit to having a lack of interest in UK doom (except for, you know, Sabbath). I've tried the most acclaimed albums of the unholy trinity and gotten nothing. I do like Cathedral, though, but then I also like Hammer Horror movies.

2 BM classics so low down. did the BM crew not turn out?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:54 (ten years ago)

I've never heard any Emperor.

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:55 (ten years ago)

Top 10's just going to be Gojira live albums and Deafheaven's demo isn't it

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:56 (ten years ago)

dont have it but its gonna be the big four and pantera i assume

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:57 (ten years ago)

I voted for the other Emperor.

Tom Violence, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:00 (ten years ago)

Anthems my #1. I don't feel like going on at length about it, though. It's just the best thing I've ever heard in the metal realm. It was my introduction to the whole second wave, and it took like a year for me to get over my obsession with it in order to buy any other albums from that whole movement.

(Nightside was my #3.)

Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:01 (ten years ago)

Nightside was also my #3, but I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.

Too low! (x2 ...someone's phone is out of battery, and it was his #7).

This is my favourite music for Monday mornings.

tangenttangent, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:12 (ten years ago)

I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.

They're very different, and I can understand the argument that Nightside is the superior one; it's definitely more "pure" as far as black metal goes. And there are times when my nostalgia over my initial enchantment with Anthems thins out enough to make me wonder which of the two I actually prefer. On top of everything else, the production, mix, and mastering of Anthems are all weird hurdles. I don't even know if I can be objective about it, though. That album really was my key to unlocking a whole world of amazing music that I'd had no awareness of. All the Scandinavian stuff seemed so alien to whatever death or thrash had come before.

Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:28 (ten years ago)

Metal really did get crazy in the mid 90s. It's hard to get more impactful than None So Vile.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:33 (ten years ago)

Nice! I only voted for 10 albums and this was one of them. It's one of my favourites of this decade.

jmm, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:36 (ten years ago)

This was far down my ballot, surprised it made it at all by now.

Tom Violence, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:41 (ten years ago)

Hmm wonder if we'll have any Discordance Axis.

Also Cryptopsy rules. Really like the production on their albums as an alternative to the super dry, boxy Morrisound style, it's like they heard Suffocation's "Human Waste" EP and were inspired by that.

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:43 (ten years ago)

do you guys want me to post more results tonight or do you want to see if frobisher will be able to continue tomorrow (he doesnt know if he will)

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:44 (ten years ago)

its no problem for me to do it, no hassle. but i dont want to spoil you guys fun if you would rather wait and see if he can continue

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:45 (ten years ago)

and im in no way trying to influence you here by saying this next one i thought was a lock for top 5

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:46 (ten years ago)

Carry on!

Poacher (Chinaski), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:46 (ten years ago)

In League With Satan is the TOO LOWest TOO LOW so far. Deserves top 5 placement at the very least, and probably much, much higher.

And while I love BM, I wouldn't have voted for Anthems. Nightside, sure, but not the Dusky Whelk. It bugs me. I hold it responsible for Deathspell Omega.

somewhere btwn Gabriel Garcia Marquez and early Evel Knievel guy (contenderizer), Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:51 (ten years ago)

I love Nightside and I enjoyed the DSO I heard, now I really ought to hear Welkin.

Tom Violence, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:53 (ten years ago)

ok i'll take it down as long as everyones posting

Home now!

None So Vile transcends everything. It's a fucking monster. It's classical music.

odysseus (imago), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:19 (ten years ago)

My theory is in pieces now

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:20 (ten years ago)

"Graves of the Fathers" still makes me flip out

gaz coombes? yo he don't got NUTHIN ta prove! (Neanderthal), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

what about rust in peace?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

I regret selling my picture disk of that album 20 years ago.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:29 (ten years ago)

Rust for years I called overrated but in recent years it has become my favorite Megadeth.

"Five Magics" fuckin rules

gaz coombes? yo he don't got NUTHIN ta prove! (Neanderthal), Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:30 (ten years ago)

I don't even like Megadeth that much but Rust in Peace forced its way onto my ballot. Near the bottom, but still. I have to admit it's a thing of beauty.

Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 21:30 (ten years ago)

Megadeths first four albums impeccable altho I ain't superstitious isn't great.

Killing is My Business is a classic of sloppy cocaine thrash
