Aye, as I said. Finally a non nazi tainted scene that allowed me to check out BM without worrying about whether they were church burning nazi's or not
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 18:33 (ten years ago)
MuchMusic's Power Hour used to play this when I was a kid in the late 80s. It seemed like interminable garbage at the time. The extended feedback at the end does seem more appealing now, if not exactly great.

I've never heard this Weakling record! Will add it to The List.
― Gavin, Leeds, Saturday, 20 February 2016 18:42 (ten years ago)
weakling record was one of my top ten records of all time circa sophomore year of college
― HYPERLINK TO RAP GENIUS (BradNelson), Saturday, 20 February 2016 18:48 (ten years ago)
still love it obv
It sounds good so far.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Saturday, 20 February 2016 18:54 (ten years ago)
Listening as well -- considering I don't usually like this style, it's good so far. Pretty epic too, so I can imagine this would work well in a lot of situations where I'm not glued to my chair listening intently. There are some surprisingly headbanging moments on this (wonder how much Josh Smith later of Fucking Champs had to do w/these lines), and doomy parts too. The only thing I can't really get behind are the Burzum-y vocals.

xxxxxxp Sometimes I think ILX is just secretly a hive of Gojira fans. Maybe the only one, I've never heard anyone mention them IRL.

They're good but I forget about them

Sometimes I think ILX is just secretly a hive of Gojira fans. Maybe the only one, I've never heard anyone mention them IRL.
And yet they sell out large clubs and theaters and are a major festival draw! Crazy, right?

and my suspicions were confirmed. fucking hell at #42 indeed
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:30 (ten years ago)
but first here is #43
I like Gojira a lot, was just listening to them yesterday actually, and then watched a pretty cool live vid of them performing in Spain in 2014. However they didn't make my list.
― Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:32 (ten years ago)
I had no idea. Good for them! Whoever they are.

Decibel mag always pretty big on Gojira.
― scott seward, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:36 (ten years ago)
One of these days I want to just order some of those "full dynamic range" albums from Earache, see what they're all about. I know they did FETO. (And Nocturnus' Thresholds!)
― Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 19:36 (ten years ago)
Great album. I remember playing it for my thrashy friends in high school and they were NOT into it.

i'm pretty sure most of the decibel writers/editors were younger than me other than john d. so i never really got their love for some stuff.

OK I'm finally gonna listen to Napalm Death after Garten der Unbewusstheit

I freely admit to having a lack of interest in UK doom (except for, you know, Sabbath). I've tried the most acclaimed albums of the unholy trinity and gotten nothing. I do like Cathedral, though, but then I also like Hammer Horror movies.

Top 10's just going to be Gojira live albums and Deafheaven's demo isn't it

dont have it but its gonna be the big four and pantera i assume

I voted for the other Emperor.
― Tom Violence, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:00 (ten years ago)
Anthems my #1. I don't feel like going on at length about it, though. It's just the best thing I've ever heard in the metal realm. It was my introduction to the whole second wave, and it took like a year for me to get over my obsession with it in order to buy any other albums from that whole movement.
(Nightside was my #3.)
― Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:01 (ten years ago)
Nightside was also my #3, but I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.

Too low! (x2 ...someone's phone is out of battery, and it was his #7).
This is my favourite music for Monday mornings.
― tangenttangent, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:12 (ten years ago)
I can't say I've heard Anthems. I suppose I should fix that.
They're very different, and I can understand the argument that Nightside is the superior one; it's definitely more "pure" as far as black metal goes. And there are times when my nostalgia over my initial enchantment with Anthems thins out enough to make me wonder which of the two I actually prefer. On top of everything else, the production, mix, and mastering of Anthems are all weird hurdles. I don't even know if I can be objective about it, though. That album really was my key to unlocking a whole world of amazing music that I'd had no awareness of. All the Scandinavian stuff seemed so alien to whatever death or thrash had come before.
― Devilock, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:28 (ten years ago)
Metal really did get crazy in the mid 90s. It's hard to get more impactful than None So Vile.

― jmm, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:36 (ten years ago)
This was far down my ballot, surprised it made it at all by now.
― Tom Violence, Saturday, 20 February 2016 20:41 (ten years ago)
Hmm wonder if we'll have any Discordance Axis.
Also Cryptopsy rules. Really like the production on their albums as an alternative to the super dry, boxy Morrisound style, it's like they heard Suffocation's "Human Waste" EP and were inspired by that.
