I suppose with technology it could get even faster and unlistenable

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:10 (ten years ago)

I think even with just good old human ambition, there's never going to be a "max extremity" point -- unless metal extremes itself out of being recognizably metal anymore.... at which point, a new starting point for some other kind of music to evolve is set.

Dominique, Friday, 19 February 2016 16:16 (ten years ago)

Extremity doesn't need to mean speed. It can refer even more pleasingly to complexity and depth of composition, which has no limit. I would even call speed a red herring, a battle of metal's early days and comparatively modest ambitions.

odysseus (imago), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:18 (ten years ago)

to most people its speed and it must also have growly vox

I dunno, you gotta draw the line somewhere and Dream Theater is that limit

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 16:25 (ten years ago)

I do like the idea that Ferneyhough is the future of metal.

no sorry, as an American, I got up little over an hour ago, running on the Pacific time zone, and now upon finishing breakfast and everything else I am getting back to running the poll. Sorry if this conflicts with your schedules.

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 17:22 (ten years ago)

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 17:52 (ten years ago)

oh wow. I thought that was a certainty for the top 10. It was in the top 10 of the all-time metal poll iirc

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 17:53 (ten years ago)

If Burzum are this low maybe Pantera will miss out too.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 17:54 (ten years ago)

Thrash taking a grip on the top 10 maybe? can see at least half of the top 10 being albums by the big four

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 17:55 (ten years ago)

only one metallica album has placed so far...

5 votes! how many were sund4rs?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:11 (ten years ago)

I like it (and probably voted for it) but too high!

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:12 (ten years ago)

Shit! There's one of my votes I didn't expect to work out. Feels too high, but good record

odysseus (imago), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:13 (ten years ago)

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:15 (ten years ago)

everything is too high or too low -- this poll is EXTREME!

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:16 (ten years ago)

feels weird seeing albums that hadnt even been out a year when voting took place placing this high

xps

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:16 (ten years ago)

Late but Burzum's another one I can't get into -- having nothing to do with loathsomeness of the artist, I should add -- thus none on my list. When putting together my ballot I'm sure I capriciously bounced around from "historical significance" to "personal favorite" and I guess Burzum lost out when my considerations were swinging to the latter. Again, this was all very unscientific.

Devilock, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:21 (ten years ago)

yeah, well, its not the most legit of results taken as a real top-__ list. but it is a good list of great albums!
If I had had double the ballots things would be a lot more balanced I think.

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:24 (ten years ago)

and the same top 10?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:25 (ten years ago)

Probably, tho!

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:25 (ten years ago)

I totally blanked on Monotheist it appears. Not on my list yet it's one of the most massive things I've ever heard. Maybe I was in a loudness war mood because jesus that thing is mastered too loud.

Devilock, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:26 (ten years ago)

xp it starts really clarifying at the top 20, but between 200 - 50 its just random.

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:27 (ten years ago)

64. Summoning - Stronghold (330, 5 votes)

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:27 (ten years ago)

One of my votes!

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 18:28 (ten years ago)

Summoning's awesome but in keeping with the random injustices of the poll, they're a band I just haven't sat and listened to over an album's length. Not sure why -- I'm usually all about losing my consciousness in a well constructed alternate reality. Musically speaking.

Devilock, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:31 (ten years ago)

I haven't listened to them much, but their sigil-logo is one of the best.

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:32 (ten years ago)

I love bands that present you with an album cover that may as well have a YOU ARE HERE arrow on it.

Devilock, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:32 (ten years ago)

hahaha yeah

Frobisher, Friday, 19 February 2016 18:34 (ten years ago)

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Friday, 19 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

The Great Cessation is without a doubt my favourite Yob album. The title track is immense.
