xpost
I got into Bathory immediately after getting into 2nd wave black metal, so at least as far as the fast, thrashy stuff, it was really easy to dive in. Even the lo-fidelity wasn't a detractor, because I was already used to 2nd wave stuff. It's his Viking metal stuff (and a lot of stuff where Quorthon tries to "sing") that's harder for me

its only 10pm here frobisher at least take it down to 70 tonight. theres lots of chat. we all want more results tonight dont we? youve finished after midnight every other night!

haha siegbran is in the 43 club too. That is pretty much the average age of ilxors who have been here 10-15 years.

I'm not as into doom metal as CS but I really like this Corrupted album.
Such a nice guitar sound.

It also doesn't help that this viking stuff has so vastly been improved upon by so many bands. Going back from Moonsorrow, Nokturnal Mortum and Falkenbach is really a leap back in grandiosity, which matters a lot when that's 99% of what that style is all about.
― Siegbran, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:17 (ten years ago)
Ok I suppose I can take it to 70.
― Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:17 (ten years ago)
Corrupted - Se Hace Por Los Suenos Asesinos must have a great chance of placing too. That would be amazing and make up for lack of Skepticism

you rule!
Sund4r, you in the 28/9 club with ultros, Brad and me? :D
This Winter album is really cool
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:18 (ten years ago)
I'd never even heard of Corrupted but after seeing them twice am now listening to this one. Their chord choices and harmonies are kind of offsetting the usual drudgery of this style of music. I might end up liking them.
― Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:21 (ten years ago)
Corrupted encompass all styles sometimes in the same album. on eps and 7"a they have a different sound again. Like Boris they just do everything.
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:22 (ten years ago)
I split the difference at 36.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:22 (ten years ago)
Enjoying Corrupted so far. They sound a bit like a good Mogwai. Of course, Mogwai are already good! Sometimes.

classic, this
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:26 (ten years ago)
maybe the post metally bits that can appear the odd time but they are fundamentally err a kind of doom/sludge hybrid. but like celtic frost they have a foot in lots of genres. of course hardly anyone has ever heard of them as they dont do interviews to the media
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:27 (ten years ago)
SKEPTICISM!!!
I hoped Alloy would place but this one was always the most likely. Funeral Doom right there. Amazing band.
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:28 (ten years ago)
4 votes again, lol
Idk, a lot of doom metal basically sounds like slowed-down Sabbath to me. Corrupted's guitar sound always reminded me a bit of Sonic Youth and no wave. 3xp
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:28 (ten years ago)
the 4 people who voted in this poll have great taste in music
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:29 (ten years ago)
My #14! Only heard it for the first time recently but it's utterly captivating
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:30 (ten years ago)
4 voters who did the maximum ballot of 100 each. frobisher lied about 26 ballots ;)
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:30 (ten years ago)
it would be funny if the same four voters decided all these.
Quite a number of ballots were unweighted, mind you.
― Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:33 (ten years ago)
Mine was mixed I think?
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:33 (ten years ago)
i didnt like the idea of my #100 only getting 1 point. but i think i weighted the top 20

that's the 3rd Krallice album to place I think.
― Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:38 (ten years ago)
My #3
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:38 (ten years ago)
I'll listen to this, but Corrupted just got noisy for some reason and it's great, so gimme a while
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:41 (ten years ago)
I've been thinking about what is going on with their intonation.
― Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:41 (ten years ago)
one of the corrupted albums is a full side of ambient
― The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:42 (ten years ago)
this Corrupted song Garten just went full Kayo Dot, except maybe even more brutal
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:43 (ten years ago)
Sorry, shouldn't be stealing Krallice's thunder
oh my fucking god
I THOUGHT Corrupted had gone full Kayo Dot, but it turned out I was mashing up the loud bit of Garten with an open Youtube tab of Reverend Bizarre, which started playing too for some reason
The result was music better than either band. Music that shall never be repeated.
I'll listen to Krallice now.
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:45 (ten years ago)
Yeah I kinda went into a Corrupted trance there too. Nice music for staring at the ceiling. Or through it.
edit: ha

but the four people who have heard of Corrupted voted for them in this poll :)

This Krallice is really excellent!
― odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:51 (ten years ago)
Would not have expected Battles to beat At the Heart of Winter at the very least. I wonder if that means Pure Holocaust is yet to come. (I didn't vote for it but probably could have.)
For a while Battles was my fav Immortal album but I think they're much better off dialing back the chaos.
― Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 22:52 (ten years ago)
And Demonaz's arm tendons are better off too.

LJ should love Corrupted
The band's sound is characterized by down-tuned guitars and bass playing slow, monotonous riffs under deep layers of feedback. The vocals are harsh, guttural growls, and the music alternates between long instrumental sections and sections with vocals which go for long periods of time without rest. They have been described by one writer as "some of the heaviest, gloomiest doom/sludge around, distinctly cacophonous, layering feedback pulverizing progressions into a distinctly cacophonous rumble."[3] However, some songs feature long acoustic sections, spoken-word interludes, and unconventional instruments. An example of the latter can be found on their 2005 album El mundo frio, which is a 72-minute song with extensive sections of harp. As another writer notes, "Right when you think you can peg Corrupted as an all Doom band they release a lush acoustic set within their bleak musical landscape."[1] To this effect, they recently added a keyboardist, Takehito Miyagi, to their lineup, which had previously consisted only of guitar, bass, drums and vocals.Corrupted has a few idiosyncrasies. Though they are from Japan and their members (including lyricist/drummer Chew Hasegawa) on most releases are all Japanese, they sing almost exclusively in Spanish, though some songs contain sections in Japanese or English. In addition, the band has never taken promotional pictures nor do any of the albums contain group photos. The only known existing photographs are taken by fans at concerts. The band also never does interviews. Corrupted's albums typically contain extensive liner notes in the form of bleak black-and-white photographs, often real-life scenes of war-torn areas or other depictions of human suffering.Much of Corrupted's discography appears on split albums, which they share with other doom metal bands or often with grindcore bands. The band is known for its ability to produce songs of virtually any length; their longest album El mundo frio consists of a single song substantially longer than an hour, while their shortest song, "Reset", recorded for a homeless benefit compilation, lasts less than two minutes.
