It all came from Bathory as well, right? Did it come more from Winter or from Bathory?

One day I hope to understand why I can't get into Bathory, esp because most of my fav bands are direct descendants of them. I don't have this problem with other originators like Incantation or Autopsy.

Winter came out early 90s didnt it? i guess that is old skool now. How time flies. Streetcleaner was 1989 hah

Bathory are like frost in that they kinda invented more than 1 genre and had a hand in creating thrash/black/death/avant garde then frost did doomy stuff while bathory did viking/folk metal. usually if you dont like black metal bathory you like the later stuff and vice versa

Not like celtic frost is like not liking sabbath to me

I def would prefer the first 3 Bathory but even then when I want that style I end up listening to something like Summon, arguably terrible.

Also I do love Celtic Frost. I meant they were one of the pioneers that I do like, contra Bathory.

I got into Bathory immediately after getting into 2nd wave black metal, so at least as far as the fast, thrashy stuff, it was really easy to dive in. Even the lo-fidelity wasn't a detractor, because I was already used to 2nd wave stuff. It's his Viking metal stuff (and a lot of stuff where Quorthon tries to "sing") that's harder for me

Such a nice guitar sound.

It also doesn't help that this viking stuff has so vastly been improved upon by so many bands. Going back from Moonsorrow, Nokturnal Mortum and Falkenbach is really a leap back in grandiosity, which matters a lot when that's 99% of what that style is all about.

This Winter album is really cool

I'd never even heard of Corrupted but after seeing them twice am now listening to this one. Their chord choices and harmonies are kind of offsetting the usual drudgery of this style of music. I might end up liking them.

Corrupted encompass all styles sometimes in the same album. on eps and 7"a they have a different sound again. Like Boris they just do everything.

I split the difference at 36.

Enjoying Corrupted so far. They sound a bit like a good Mogwai. Of course, Mogwai are already good! Sometimes.

maybe the post metally bits that can appear the odd time but they are fundamentally err a kind of doom/sludge hybrid. but like celtic frost they have a foot in lots of genres. of course hardly anyone has ever heard of them as they dont do interviews to the media

Idk, a lot of doom metal basically sounds like slowed-down Sabbath to me. Corrupted's guitar sound always reminded me a bit of Sonic Youth and no wave.
