to kids the early DM and BM dont sound extreme either. we oldies just got to face it

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:00 (ten years ago)

KEA is in that category of Albums I Feel I Should Like But Don't. Yet I always feel weirdly excited when I start listening to it. That excitement just doesn't last long, and I don't know why.

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:00 (ten years ago)

RTL and AJFA OTOH

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

yeah I guess its true.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

xxxp not sure if I'm a "kid" though younger than some of you I think, but as someone who's only recently started to listen to early death metal it still sounds WAY more extreme than most noodly brickwalled hyper tech stuff

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:03 (ten years ago)

to me at least

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:03 (ten years ago)

what age are you? im 43 and there's a lot of ilxors on the metal thread older than I am

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:04 (ten years ago)

xp I agree! But it seems to be the minority position. A lot of the OG-DM really evoke a sense of evil and malice that techdeathspeeeeed really doesn't. And to me that is more extreme.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:05 (ten years ago)

I'm 28

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:06 (ten years ago)

as long as this poll is anthrax-free i'm good. even if people voted for stupid pantera.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:06 (ten years ago)

ready for the big tie?

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

29 yesterday. Bring me more cake

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

wow that is low. expected that to be top 20

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

All the noodly brickwalled tech stuff in fact sounds "lighter" to me than the OSDM of the 80s/90s. I think the real flow of extremity went through Suffocation, Cryptopsy, then all those gurgle death bands like Disgorge and the ones with a dozen or so syllables in the name.

xpost and age check: also 43

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

and i agree fuck Anthrax

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

ya fuck anthrax

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

awwww great album. In some ways that was the most extreme album of its time it certainly felt like it. There was nothing like it around back then. Nice to see it place in the top 100 and I didnt think it would make it since earths clothing was stolen by Sunn o)))

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

Almost makes up for the lack of Skepticism

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

hahahhaa oh wtf. very good album, i love it BUT HOW THE FUCK is it beating out Remission?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:13 (ten years ago)

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:14 (ten years ago)

hah. great album, but is it extreme?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:17 (ten years ago)

is earth or harvey milk or converge metal? i mean people just voted for stuff they liked. no biggie. angelic process album not so extreme either as far as i remember.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:19 (ten years ago)

love the album but surprised it beat out what it has

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:23 (ten years ago)

this has been very surprising the whole time.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:24 (ten years ago)

the Earth debut EP was my introduction to metal, I think - either that or Streetcleaner, lol

but yeah, Extra-Capsular Extraction is something I might have voted for had it been nominated, or had I been thinking straight

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)

streetcleaner should have beat out every mastodon album now that you mention it.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:28 (ten years ago)

I voted for it, so it might...

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:29 (ten years ago)

88. Darkspace - III (260, 5 votes)

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:29 (ten years ago)

Aaaaaah! My #6! Behold the vastness of the Universe!

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:31 (ten years ago)

ahh yes, great album. I think III I might be the best of the 4 albums but that wasnt nominated

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:32 (ten years ago)

you reckon? I liked it but found III to be an absolute monster, a focused demonstration of Space Black Metal beyond compare...

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:33 (ten years ago)

Earth 2 was my #10
Streetcleaner #9 so Im guessing that will show up soon

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:33 (ten years ago)

they are all amazing imago tbh.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:34 (ten years ago)

III is a great record -- hard to top really

Dominique, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:35 (ten years ago)

Ok I think I'm going to 75 today. Is that alright?

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:36 (ten years ago)

Never could get into Darkspace.

Hey, I'm 43 too. Are we all 43? Are we clones?

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:39 (ten years ago)

no, we can't be clones cause some of us hate Dissection.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:41 (ten years ago)

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:41 (ten years ago)

xp Maybe we're part of some metallic nature vs. nurture experiment

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:42 (ten years ago)

oh shit, yes, Autopsy! One of my all time favorite death metal albums. As much as I enjoy a Suffocation/Cryptopsy, yeah, I love the evil, doomy early death metal sound. I actually recorded a (terrible) one man death metal demo once and covered "Critical Madness."

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:44 (ten years ago)

Just ate some cake

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:44 (ten years ago)

Now listening to Autopsy after eating cake

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:45 (ten years ago)

You are living the life, dude

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:47 (ten years ago)

yeah Autopsy is one my favs, and this album is amazing. This is the kind of DM I like.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:47 (ten years ago)

86. Terrorizer - World Downfall (264, 6 votes)

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:53 (ten years ago)

Another great one. I actually got the Terrorizer demo comp recently and it's kind of amazing the jump in quality from their demos to that album. Also one of the few albums Scott Burns did a decent job on.
