odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:14 (ten years ago)

It turns out that, in 2016, it is easy to find out for oneself. Listening. xp

Hi! I'm twice-coloured! (Sund4r), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:14 (ten years ago)

i didn't really play deathspell CDs after that initial burst of "wow wtf man that is some sound". i mean it definitely hit me at the time. but i would have to be in a really weird mood to play them now.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:17 (ten years ago)

it would be funny if the same 4 people voted in this poll.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:17 (ten years ago)

i still have never heard the stuff that came out BEFORE the momentum/kenose stuff. i always forget to check it out.

as far as that era goes, mid-2000's, i listen to a LOT of negura bunget. like, the last couple of years i have. it helped that i bought CDs from an ilxor and he had every album. i kept them all and i've been playing them ever since. timeless i tellya.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:22 (ten years ago)

xxxxp yeah only 3 votes is nuts

moans and feedback (Dinsdale), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:24 (ten years ago)

ohhh a classic right there

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:24 (ten years ago)

That's the only Harvey Milk album I really like. Probably the most emotional doom/sludge I've ever heard (don't like the Cohen cover though)

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:25 (ten years ago)

it would be funny if the same 4 people voted in this poll.

― scott seward,

Lj and 3 lady friends?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:25 (ten years ago)

misposted up there -- 4 points meant 4 votes

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:31 (ten years ago)

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:32 (ten years ago)

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:47 (ten years ago)

I'm not doing so hot today.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:47 (ten years ago)

and up next is a 4-way tie!

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:47 (ten years ago)

haha hope its all the metallica and slayer albums left to get them out of the way so to get the metallica/slayer/thrash albums arent extreme, eh imago?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:52 (ten years ago)

to get that convo done and dusted, obviously

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:52 (ten years ago)

I don't think anyone would win an argument that Slayer isn't extreme.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:54 (ten years ago)

to a 16 year old growing up with death and black metal they probably aren't though.

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:59 (ten years ago)

xp Mad extreme, like Oakley Blades

CAN I SAY re: black metal

95% of the American black metal stuff in that vein is neglible/nonessential

Pretty much right; we're way better at the crude Profanatica/Havohej/Lord Foul sound, the stuff that sounds like a brain-damaged version of early Incantation. Have you guys heard Lord Foul?! Fucking crazy.

we salute you, our half-inflated dark lord (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Thursday, 18 February 2016 18:59 (ten years ago)

to kids the early DM and BM dont sound extreme either. we oldies just got to face it

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:00 (ten years ago)

KEA is in that category of Albums I Feel I Should Like But Don't. Yet I always feel weirdly excited when I start listening to it. That excitement just doesn't last long, and I don't know why.

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:00 (ten years ago)

RTL and AJFA OTOH

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

yeah I guess its true.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:01 (ten years ago)

xxxp not sure if I'm a "kid" though younger than some of you I think, but as someone who's only recently started to listen to early death metal it still sounds WAY more extreme than most noodly brickwalled hyper tech stuff

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:03 (ten years ago)

to me at least

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:03 (ten years ago)

what age are you? im 43 and there's a lot of ilxors on the metal thread older than I am

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:04 (ten years ago)

xp I agree! But it seems to be the minority position. A lot of the OG-DM really evoke a sense of evil and malice that techdeathspeeeeed really doesn't. And to me that is more extreme.

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:05 (ten years ago)

I'm 28

space prophet wogan (ultros ultros-ghali), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:06 (ten years ago)

as long as this poll is anthrax-free i'm good. even if people voted for stupid pantera.

scott seward, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:06 (ten years ago)

ready for the big tie?

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

89. Converge - Jane Doe (260, 4 votes)

https://open.spotify.com/album/2gtM4m6sglJDrX3toJWZO6

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

29 yesterday. Bring me more cake

odysseus (imago), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:07 (ten years ago)

wow that is low. expected that to be top 20

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

All the noodly brickwalled tech stuff in fact sounds "lighter" to me than the OSDM of the 80s/90s. I think the real flow of extremity went through Suffocation, Cryptopsy, then all those gurgle death bands like Disgorge and the ones with a dozen or so syllables in the name.

xpost and age check: also 43

Devilock, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

and i agree fuck Anthrax

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:08 (ten years ago)

ya fuck anthrax

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

awwww great album. In some ways that was the most extreme album of its time it certainly felt like it. There was nothing like it around back then. Nice to see it place in the top 100 and I didnt think it would make it since earths clothing was stolen by Sunn o)))

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

Almost makes up for the lack of Skepticism

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:11 (ten years ago)

hahahhaa oh wtf. very good album, i love it BUT HOW THE FUCK is it beating out Remission?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:13 (ten years ago)

is the next one crack the skye?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:14 (ten years ago)

89. SubRosa - More Constant Than The Gods (260, 4 votes)

https://i.sli.mg/DFlVuy.jpg

https://youtu.be/_w7lkQoJmqY

Frobisher, Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:15 (ten years ago)

hah. great album, but is it extreme?

The Call Of Cthulow (Cosmic Slop), Thursday, 18 February 2016 19:17 (ten years ago)

is earth or harvey milk or converge metal? i mean people just voted for stuff they liked. no biggie. angelic process album not so extreme either as far as i remember.
