definitely reads like pop/EDM James Blake or Jai Paul. some cool production touches but eh, it's so breathless and eager to please.

side note, i listened to J Blake's entire discography yesterday. really cool listening back to the early EPs in hindsight, there's so much of his voice (and whole toolkit in general) on 'The Bells Sketch' even. anyway.

I was underwhelmed by the 2nd time passages release when it came out last year but this last weekend i got lost in the catacombs / council offices after taking a wrong turn underneath the bus stations. And it immediately came to mind, space travel, igneous rocks, the musky atmosphere of abandoned files. I needed to go and buy the spacetravel record, they didnt have it in the local bring & buy sale, and it was £66 on discogs, but thats what you get for sleeping in

That Skee Mask lp is totally ace, my fave techno lp since the last Shed one.

Trying to work out where the dialogue is from in spacetravel at 3.50....seems familiar

This link probably isn't even necessary since y'all live in the world, but new Mr. Fingers rolls simply and beautifully along. Those chords.

I liked Inoue Shirabe's release last year on Antinote (along with Domenique Dumont, Leonardo Martelli was other good thing on that label imo from 2015).

it's from an album on fred p's label, a bit too heads-down techno for the albums thread but a really great album

Playlist is updated, though spotty as hell. Where semi-appropriate, I've put in music from artists mentioned from '15-'16 as placeholders.

the first spacetravel record took me a while to get into but it crept up in the end, like a ghost drifting into the six yard box.

i like the B1 on the new one, not sure about the others tho

love this track and it has a four-on-the-floor kick so here it goes:

it's almost steve reich-y in how systematically it goes through different rhythmic permutations.

Vera: " You might listen to a track and think, "This could be good for an afterhour," "This would be nice for a warm-up," or "This is really warm and it's going to give a hug to someone"

Wise words, a record that gives a hug is a record that is played again, its contribution to reverie, invaluable

anyway just popped in to say that the new moomin LP is very good on first listen.

davey, Friday, 11 March 2016 10:15 (eight years ago) link

I was feeling that as well, it was kind of slight but in the best possible way.

Matt DC, Friday, 11 March 2016 10:28 (eight years ago) link

I hadn't been taken with any of the Moomin records, but really liked one of the tracks on the last 12", Aquarama, I didn't know there was an LP to go along with it

That Mézigue track upthread is pretty cool, finally realized what disco track it samples:

great record, did you know it before? I hadnt actually heard it before seeing it mentioned on the Mézigue discogs page

the gritty, the hard kicks, the phat basslines, the jazz chords, the lost days in Southport, the bacon baps and the lost chalets, its back

lets talk about The Garage, Shelter, Zanzibar, Blundell Park, Spotland, crazy memories, its back

This is very really lovely, sounds like a locomotive floating through a desert at night but w/ some really efficient 808 handclaps thrown in

sexy dander (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 13 March 2016 14:43 (eight years ago) link

I heard a vibey piece of music the other night, which was particularly flimsy and i couldnt remember anything about it other than it was good and I wanted to buy a copy, but then I remembered it had a sampled snippet of speech in it, enough to google just now while I was on the bus

it said

"Everything connects, Charlie, whether you know it or not. You need to stop and think it through. All right"

this seems to be from a recent television programme, Boardwalk Empire, which means its a new (or relatively new) record. I dont know what it is though

saer, Sunday, 13 March 2016 15:46 (eight years ago) link

wait xp oops I didn't even post the link apparently, let's try this again

schwantz, Monday, 14 March 2016 19:51 (eight years ago) link

really impressed with the production on 2 new tracks by Truce on the keysound label, deeptech/house sound

Truce - Be there
https://open.spotify.com/track/6YTmV7izTmnX2TVB3y2XzB

Truce - Uhh
https://open.spotify.com/track/4rlK2uJB6r3ilAvOSnXp4l

soundcloud: only preview snippets
https://soundcloud.com/djtruce/sets/be-there-uhh-ep-out-now-on

Boomkat Product Review:
Keysound chase a London deeptech/house sound with two lean, supple shufflers from Truce.

Be There rolls with ice cold bass motif and pin-sharp drum patter for the dancers; Uhh drops the temperature a few more degrees for a locked-in, head-high stride detailed with crisp rimshots and Gqom-esque grunting vocal stab.

Stereociti - Lost Land.
"Japanese deepcore" - the first track is particularly good. A superb vinyl pressing, too. (As is the Mr. Fingers EP.)
